Playbil.com is reporting that a documentary based around the ups and downs and twists and turns of the current Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is now in the works. According to their report and a report from the New York Post, filmmaker Jacob Cohl, whose father, Michael Cohl, is one of the producers of the Spider-Man musical, had been granted access to film everything from the first day of rehearsals to the opening night.

A documentary made by filmmaker Jacob Cohl, the son of lead producer Michael Cohl, chronicled all the backstage drama surrounding the much-in-the-news [for all the wrong reasons] musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark and it may be headed to a cinema near you. According to the New York Post,Jacob Cohl, was given access to film the entire production spanning from the first day of rehearsals to the long-awaited June 2011 opening. It was originally planned to be a typical documentary of triumph and success but it became something else with all the turmoil that unfolded during rehearsals, rewrites and injuries. One person who hopes the documentary never sees the light of day is Tony winner Julie Taymor, the show's original director, who is seeking to bar the producers from using any footage of her in the movie.
