Gabrielle Union has her hands in another upcoming book adaptation - this time, a series she's set to star in and executive produce with Amazon Studios. The outlet also noted that the show is described as a "cat-and-mouse thriller with a pulpy edge and some sexy soap that centers around two brilliant - and very different - Black women: Lily, the pretty little wife suspected of murdering her husband, and Ginny, the detective on the case." The synopsis adds, "Upon entering each other's lives, they begin to crack open each other's façade to reveal what really lies beneath."

At a time when we were all locked down during the pandemic, it was fun to revel in a jet-setting, high-stakes and hijinks world, and HBO Max’s freshman series The Flight Attendant delivered that and showed a Kaley Cuoco we’ve never seen before, able to play various shades in spades.
While Flight Attendant played like a James Bond girl in reverse spy comedy series, it also at its core dealt with the anguish and the morning after of alcoholism.
“In Case of Emergency” penned by creator Steve Yockey, is where Flight Attendant takes off. An adaptation of Chris Bohjalian’s novel, the series begins with Imperial Atlantic flight attendant Cassie Bowen, played by Cuoco, who sneaks a drink when she’s up in the air but parties hard when she’s on the ground. The Flight Attendant took off for HBO Max when it launched in November. So much so that the streamer and the team, led by star and exec producer Kaley Cuoco, decided to make a second season.
Cuoco’s character Cassie Bowen, who is caught in the middle of a deadly murder plot in Season 1, cleans up and moves to Los Angeles for the second season, helped by the fact that the series scored a tax break from the state of California.
“I was very clear when we decided we wanted to do a second season, that I didn’t want Cassie to all of a sudden be like an amazing FBI agent,” Cuoco said during the series’ panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event. “We are going to be adding in that slight CIA asset on the side. The Producers Guild of America Awards awarded Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” with their top prize, one of the key indicators for the Academy Awards, particularly the best picture category. Edging out its closest competitors including Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman,” Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” this might just end any questions about whether or not the moving drama is running away with the Oscars’ big prize.
All the acceptance speeches were pre-recorded with “Nomadland” giving a more produced, glitzier presentation than what we’ve seen at other award shows.
It should be noted that last year’s “1917” from Sam Mendes lost the Oscar after wins from PGA and DGA to “Parasite,” which only had the coveted SAG cast ensemble prize under its belt. Coincidentally, “Nomadland” is not nominated at SAG in their top category, leaving an opening for...

“Nomadland” look home the top film prize at the 2021 Producers Guild Awards Wednesday, bringing it closer to a Best Picture win. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize has historically been a strong indicator of which film will will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 31 times. It happened in 2018 with “Green Book,” but not last year: “1917” won at the 2020 PGAs, but the Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Parasite.”
This year, 10 movies competed for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures (see the full list of nominees and winners below). The Writers Guild of America Awards were handed during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, March 21. But don’t base your Oscar predictions on these kudos. Every year a slew of Oscar-nominated scripts are deemed ineligible for consideration here due to guild guidelines. Indeed, over the past 12 years only 80 of the Writers Guild of America Awards nominees have numbered among the 120 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Scroll down for the 2021 Writers Guild of America Awards winners list.
Our odds predict that “Nomadland” will win Best Adapted Screenplay winner at the Oscars but it was not allowed to compete at the WGA Awards. Neither was another Oscar contender in that category: “The Father.” The guild did match the academy three-for-five in this category, with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “One Night in Miami” and “The White Tiger” competing at both. “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “News of the World” round out the guild nominees.
