In an exclusive uInterview, Rory Culkin discusses his new film, 5 Lbs of Pressure.
5 Lbs of Pressure follows Adam, an ex-con, as he returns to his neighborhood following a 16-year prison sentence for murder. Culkin’s character, Mike, meets Adam as he is searching for a way out of his uncle’s drug-dealing business. The two men embark on a journey to redemption.
“Mike is looking for a way out, he’s trying to carve his own path and he’s kind of blowing it the whole time,” Culkin told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “But I guess the whole film is about poor decisions and trying to redeem yourself. Some people are better at that than others.”
When asked how he tries to relate to a character like Mike, Culkin said he discussed the character with writer and director Phil Allocco.

"Five pounds of trigger pressure – so your aim, never off." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for the film 5lbs of Pressure, an action thriller by filmmaker Phil Allocco. Filmed mostly in the UK even though this is an American production. Yet another generic crime thriller with the same characters and plot we've seen often recently. Trying to start over, Adam searches for redemption returning to his old neighborhood to put to rest his demons, though he comes under new pressure when the brother of the man he killed seeks revenge on him. Meanwhile, Mike, is trying to escape a life of crime living under the thumb of his gangster Uncle Leff. The movie stars Luke Evans as Adam, Rory Culkin as Mike, Zac Adams, Rudy Pankow, Stephanie Leonidas, Savannah Steyn, Lorraine Burroughs, and Alex Pettyfer as Leff. This is not a bad trailer, it just doesn't really convince me this is worth watching.

When successful scribes provide advice to novices along the lines of “write what you know,” they don’t really mean that writers should relate a thinly disguised version of their own personal history, but that’s more than anything else how Phil Allocco’s lame rom-com comes across. Ineptly conceived and indifferently produced, The Truth About Lies aptly demonstrates why VOD is really the best platform for a certain category of indie features.
It wouldn’t be so bad if anything here seemed remotely fresh or quirky, but instead Allocco delivers worn platitudes and hackneyed situations, beginning with his protagonist Gilby Smalls’ (Fran...

Indie movies seem to have a lot more heart these days, and when it comes to romantic comedies they generally have a lot more to say. Neither may actually be the case with The Truth About Lies, but the trailer makes it seem like a film that wants to explore serious ground within the comedic structure, and that’s a lot more rare than you might think.
Gilby Smalls (Fran Kranz) has just been fired and he lost his girlfriend in the most millennial way possible. Nothing is going right for him, so when he meets a beautiful woman he’s more than the normal amount of desperate to impress. It turns into a whirlwind of stacking lies on top of each other, and he’s soon in too deep. Hilarity, one must assume, ensues, and Gilby has to ask who he’s really keeping from the truth about his life.

"So you lied to me about everything?" Blue Fox Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled The Truth About Lies, made by writer/director Phil Allocco. This quirky comedy is about a guy who starts coming up with a series of lies in order to impress a girl. Fairly simple premise. Fran Kranz stars and Gilby Smalls, and the girl he falls for is played by Odette Annable, who you'll recognize from Cloverfield or The Unborn. The cast includes Colleen Camp, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Chris Diamantopoulos, Oakes Fegley, and Laura Kightlinger. This doesn't look that unique, almost like every other quirky indie romantic comedy. And I'm pretty sure he's going to get the girl in the end, too. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Phil Allocco's The Truth About Lies, direct from YouTube: In The Truth About Lies, Gilby Smalls (Fran Kranz) is having a meltdown.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...
