With a diverse lineup of series coming out this year, HBO España is making its mark in Europe with top tier productions that differentiate themselves from the current crop of shows currently on the market, according to the service’s head of original programming.
Discussing the pay TV outlet’s strategy and upcoming productions at this year’s Conecta Fiction Reboot confab, Miguel Salvat, HBO España’s commissioning editor of original programming, said the channel receives and reviews around 1,000 projects a year, and that figure is growing.
“We don’t close the door to anyone, to any person or company, because you never know where the next project that you want to make will come from,” Salvat stressed.

Cannes — Fast-driving from a huge digital media publishing base into the creation and production of premium content for global platforms and beyond, top Spanish-language digital native media group 2btube has clinched a wide-ranging production partnership with José Miguel Contreras’ Madrid-based Lacoproductora.
The deal comes fast on the heels of 2btube’s production alliance with Facebook Watch, unveiled Tuesday at Mipcom in Fw’s confirmation of a brace of European partnerships, and, via 2btube subsid Touché Films, the production of an upcoming mini series for YouTube Originals, to be released in mid-2020, which was unveiled at YouTube’s Brandcast in Mexico.
At Mipcom, 2btube executive chairman Bastián Manintveld also confirmed territories for “Dedicado a mi ex,” Touché Films first theatrical feature film.

HBO Europe is adding to its growing Spanish slate with “Por H o por B” (“Whatever”), a comedy series produced by Globomedia, part of TV giant The Mediapro Studio, and new Madrid-based company Lacoproductora.
Written and directed by Manuela Burló Moreno, the 10-episode half-hour takes the characters from her Goya-nominated short film “Pipas,” with actresses Marta Martín and Saida Benzal reprising their roles as friends Hache and Belén.
The two childhood friends living in the hipster Madrid neighborhood of Malasaña – a far cry from their roots on the outskirts of the city. The inevitable cultural clash leads to a cataclysm of ridiculous and awkward consequences as they navigate their friendship, and the fake new world they’re now a part of.
