The new movie Awareness, directed by Daniel Benmayor, has quite an interesting premise to grab the audience’s attention. A young adult named Ian has some special powers that make him the target of a mysterious organization that wants to hunt him down. In between all this, there’s another man who wants to find Ian, but his motives remain unclear. Awareness borrows from a lot of films and tries to come up with something new. It has a bunch of eclectic characters and a plot twist so shocking that it will surely make you question reality. Ian’s character is particularly interesting, as he doesn’t know who he really is. Apart from the power of manipulating people’s perceptions, the other intriguing feature of the character is that perhaps his father wasn’t really who he thought he was. His quest to uncover his true identity becomes a catalyst for the plot,...

There have been great films like The Matrix regarding the manipulation and rift between perception and reality. Consciousness is an unfathomable mystery that science hasn’t been able to explain. There is great intrigue, and perhaps this is tied to the new advancement in AI. Awareness, the new film by Daniel Benmayor, is hell bent on creating a narrative that would make us understand that perception creates reality. It’s indeed an interesting idea. The characters are in a world that reminds us of one of the 1980s Hollywood films. A teen-ish boy, an alcoholic father, and their existence in isolation on a boat. The plot seems to have taken memorable elements of The Terminator and The Matrix, which were then mixed together to prepare a decent concoction. There is a line in this film echoing the famous Schwarzenegger line, ‘Come with me if you want to live’. The film...

There is gunplay aplenty in this Spanish thriller about a young renegade who can create illusions with his mind – with some neat touches amid the mayhem
Directed by Daniel Benmayor, this Spanish mashup of Inception, Scanners, The Fury and The Matrix follows 18-year-old Ian (Carlos Scholz), whose parents were Perceivers: a species of cold war spy chemically engineered to be able to project illusions with their minds. Most were killed off in a cull known as the Disinfection, which makes Ian, who has inherited his parents’ powers, especially valuable. Strolling into a bank brandishing a scrap of paper, he can wordlessly persuade the teller that it is a cheque ready to be cashed. Pointing his finger, he makes an adversary fall to the ground from a nonexistent bullet wound.

"You don't have as much control as you think you have!" Amazon's Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for a Spanish mystery fantasy action thriller titled Awareness, a film by Spanish filmmaker Daniel Benmayor. This premiered in Spain earlier this year, and will be available for streaming worldwide in October. A teenager lives with his father on the outskirts of modern society and runs small scams with his ability to generate visual illusions upon unsuspecting victims. Things get complicated when his powers get out of control in public, with a mysterious agency coming after him. As he tries to evade capture, Ian discovers he's not the only person with these powers and that his whole life has been a lie. This sounds like a very similar premise to Freaks (2018). Awareness stars Carlos Scholz, Pedro Alonso, María Pedraza, Óscar Jaenada, and Lela Loren. This one also reminds me of Hypnotic,...

Post-covid, Spanish sales companies look poised for a comeback to the global scene. Although, as Berlin’s EFM has gone virtual once again, their long-awaited physical reunion with the international industry will have to wait until Cannes… hopefully.
An argument for optimism: Spanish-language films continue gaining ground on the global market, especially as platforms boom. Standout examples include Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s “The Platform” and Lluís Quílez’s “Below Zero,” which both breach the top 10 most watched non-English language Netflix films of all time, per Variety’s estimations. Other Spanish films such as “The Paramedic,” “Sky High” and “Xtreme” have also performed well for the streamer.

Library deals, remake rights deals, movie production — Spanish film sales agents are diversifying in multiple ways to battle the uncertainty of current times.
The coronavirus pandemic has added another wrinkle to an already complex landscape, with sales agents at the crossroads between traditional distribution and streaming platforms.
In February, as the shock waves of the Covid-19 crisis threatened to reach the Berlinale, Spanish sales companies were rapidly doing business. But deals were already impacted by the impending pandemic.
“Everything was rushed after Berlin,” says Iván Díaz, head of international at Filmax, who at the European Film Market clinched several territory-by-territory sales on David Victori’s psychological thriller “No matarás” (“Cross the Line”), toplining Spanish star Mario Casas.
Mainly acquired for theatrical release, the film’s buyers include Wild Bunch in France, Russian Report for Cis, Cai Chang for Taiwan and Dexin for former Yugoslavia. Further contracts negotiated at the Efm were signed several weeks after.

Miami — Breaking barriers, Netflix is preparing to unleash “Xtremo,” billed as one of Spain’s first full-on action thriller movies, starring Oscar Jaenada and action specialist Teo García.
A Netflix Original Film directed by Daniel Benmayor, “Xtremo” also marks the first production of Showrunner Films, the new production company set up by Spanish sales agent Vicente Canales and partner Julieta Videla.
“’Xtremo’ was born as a play to create action cinema made here in Spain. A film designed for the global market but with the character and originality of Spanish cinema,” Canales said in a press release.
For Netflix it’s certainly a gamble in bringing a new genre to a territory, but the bet is a calculated one as action thriller films have performed well for the service internationally. In 2019, the Michael Bay, Ryan Reynolds vehicle “6 Underground” was a massive success around the world.
Although the film only premiered on Dec.

With terrible movies you can spew forth all the bile and hatred you want, with good (or great) movies you can rave over each an every aspect that got you excited. Ever since the "Twilight" series wrapped up, Taylor Lautner has been eager to show different sides than what audiences may be used to. He's gone down the comedy road with "Grown Ups 2" and the U.K. series "Cuckoo," and also forged an action path with "Abduction." It's in the vein of the latter that his latest, "Tracers," arrives, allowing the actor show some parkour moves. Directed by Daniel Benmayor ("Paintball"), and featuring Marie Avgeropoulos, Adam Rayner, and Rafi Gavron, the story follows Cam, a New York City bicycle messenger who falls in with a team of parkour artists who use their skills to pull off heists. In debt to organized crime, Cam goes along on the heists, but soon he faces danger on all sides. You can get a taste of the movie from the people who made it in the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip below. Read More: Watch The...

Bike-messenger boy meets girl, joins her NYC gang of parkour-ing thieves, and winds up in formulaic trouble in Daniel Benmayor's Tracers, a by-the-books B movie only notable for its energetic action choreography. In debt to a loan shark, Cam (Taylor Lautner) ditches cycling in favor of hopping, skipping, and jumping around Manhattan after meeting Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos), a beauty in league with other one-dimensional urban-athlete twentysomethings who pull off daring heists while dressed like ninjas. Cam is the usual good guy in a bad spot, and his need for cash drives him to join their crew, whose leader, Miller (Adam Rayner), likes to spout faux-philosophical nonsense about striving for new "plateaus." Of course, what initially seems great to Cam even...

A good movie is like a restaurant that serves quality food and lots of it. You can gorge yourself and there will still be plenty to take home. Some of my most distinct movie memories aren’t from watching films, but talking about them afterwards. Cinema brings diverse people into a single place for a communal experience. That’s why when you watch a movie by yourself at home you miss out on half of the pleasure of cinema. If a movie is really good or really bad, at least there is always something to say.

Taylor Lautner's mundane life takes a dangerous turn in a trailer for Tracers.
Cam (Lautner) is a bike messenger who becomes involved with a cutting-edge parkour gang following a chance encounter with a beautiful woman (Marie Avgeropoulos).
Although life seems more exciting with the gang, Cam is soon over his head when the group turn to crime to fund their parkour exploits.
Tyrant actor Adam Rayner, Olympus Has Fallen's Sam Medina and Divergent star Josh Yadon all have supporting roles in the action thriller.
Director Daniel Benmayor shot Tracers on location in New York City.

I'm one of those "glass half-full "critics when it comes to Taylor Lautner. Film after film I hope he'll pull a Sally Field, who went from The Flying Nun and Gidget to Sybil and Norma Rae. Would Abduction or Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 reveal the young man's inner Laurence Olivier? No, sadly. The lumbering hunk remains just a lumbering hunk in those two. Prize-winning pecs and abs plus a cute smile were what the glamor boy's fans had to settle for.
"Well, maybe Tracers will be his Wuthering Heights," I was murmuring as I scooted onto the subway last night, heading for a midtown screening room. I should have known better. I should have checked out the director's CV before hoping for the best.
The Barcelona-born Daniel Benmayor had previously helmed a Schweppes commercial with Hugh Laurie and two deodorant ads, which would make you think he could avoid creating malodorous art.

Liberated from the clumsy cage of the “Twilight” films, Taylor Lautner stars in “Tracers,” an agreeable, if minor, thriller directed by Daniel Benmayor. Set in the concrete cliffs and canyons of Manhattan, the film kicks off when bike messenger Cam (Lautner) literally runs into Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos) as she and a gang of like-minded individuals are racing up, around and through the city by means of the free-running art called Parkour. It’s a meet-cute with injuries — a beat-cute, if you will — and after Nikki leaves Cam a bike to replace the one she smashed up, he tries...

Remember that time when Hollywood thought Twilight star Taylor Lautner was going to be the next big movie star? That didn’t quite work out for anyone, did it? But he’s back in an upcoming movie called Tracers, which doesn’t look very promising. It’s described as a parkour action thriller, and this is the synopsis:
“Tracers follows a New York City bicycle messenger, Cam (Lautner) who is the hottest thing on two wheels, but is in debt to an organized crime gang. When he crashes his bike into a sexy stranger, Nikki (Avgeropoulos), Cam is immediately seduced by her and the thrill of the high-stakes world of parkour.”
Even though I enjoy parkour, Lautner just kills the whole thing for me, and it's hard to take seriously. The film was directed by Daniel Benmayor (The Manhunt) and had an army of screenwriters that included Leslie Bohem, Matt Johnson,...

If you thought we'd seen the last of mannequin actor Taylor Lautner, think again. The star of The Twilight Saga is back, and he's still trying really hard to be a real boy with his latest role in the action thriller Traces. This time, Lautner uses his physical prowess to partake in parkour, making him a reliable bike messenger in New York City. After meeting a young woman named Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos), learns that he can make some serious cash if he uses his developing parkour skills to help a group of street criminals pull off some heists. It looks about as generic as you'd expect, and sadly, not even the action looks all that fun. It would be better if this were about Brodie Bruce and a team of fellow comic book inkers battling injustice. Here's the first international trailer for Daniel Benmayor's Tracers from Mongkol Major:...

Sounds like Taylor Lautner is looking to make "Tracers," the Daniel Benmayor-directed "parkour thriller" he signed onto back in May, his next film. Speaking to us at the "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" press line at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today, Lautner said he was excited about the project, which will see him starring as a mafia-targeted New York bike messenger who learns the art of parkour (essentially the practice of navigating through an urban landscape using acrobatic movements) after meeting a "beautiful stranger."
