Apex Legends landed with a bang last Wednesday and has already shaken up the battle royale genre in a big way. While it doesn’t quite have Pubg or Fortnite shaking in their boots, the 10 million (and growing) player count in less than a week will definitely have them nervously looking over their shoulders at this stylish young upstart. And perhaps they should be nervous.
After all, no game stays super-popular forever and while Fortnite at least is doing a great job in keeping players engaged with fresh events, Apex Legends is the new big deal in town. And as far as I’m concerned, it’s lived up to the hype.
I’m not exactly bored of Fortnite, but it’s extremely familiar now, whereas the dynamic movement of Apex Legends combined with the cool character skills, interesting world and excellent Smart Comms system makes me excited to make the drop every single round.

Ask any early adopter of Respawn’s Titanfall and they’ll likely tell you that, while the mech on mech shooter was immensely fun to play, one thing that was sorely missed was a fully-fledged single-player campaign, given that much if not all of the game’s world-building was relegated to a small corner of your Hud or relayed during loading screens.
That all changes with the release of Titanfall 2 in two weeks’ time. It’s a multi-platform title that will include a single-player campaign from the get-go, one which will have a fairly significant amount of variety beneath its steely exterior. That’s according to the latest sizzle reel to emerge for the imminent sequel, this time casting light on how that single player vision coalesced.

Just one day after former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella officially unveiled Respawn Entertainment, a number of prominent, valuable employees have left beleaguered studio Infinity Ward. Have a look at who they are, and what they did at Infinity Ward:
Chris Cherubin — Lead Artist Bruce Ferriz — Senior Animator Steve Fukuda — Lead designer Mackey McCandlish — Lead Designer Zied Reike — Lead designer Jon Shiring — Programmer Rayme Vinson — Programmer
Of this current group, only person has indicated an immediate destination: Bruce Ferriz is bound for Big Red Button Entertainment, the studio founded in 2008 by former Naughty Dog Art Director Bob Rafei. As for the balance of the individuals listed above, speculation that they may join West and Zampella at Respawn Entertainment remains, for now, just that. The timing of the departures, however, is difficult to ignore.

The personnel changes at Infinity Ward keep occurring in twos this year. First, Activision removed bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella, giving way to a round of lawsuits. Then, lead designer Todd Alderman and lead software engineer Francesco Gigliotti departed. Now, programmer Jon Shiring and designer Mackey McCandlish have reportedly joined that list as well.
"After almost six years at Infinity Ward, I resigned today," Shiring wrote on his Twitter account. "I'm incredibly proud of everything we accomplished and I'm going to miss everyone."
McCandlish ended his eight-year run with Infinity Ward with goodbyes over Facebook, according to Kotaku.
Given their bodies of work, neither should have much problem finding a new place to settle down. However, given the timing of the departures and yesterday's announcement that West and Zampella have established a new studio called Respawn Entertainment, a lot of eyes are going to be watching which former Infinity...
