Traditionally, solo albums can afford an artist the opportunity to explore previously uncharted sonic or lyrical terrain. In Alison Goldfrapp’s case, however, the electronic duo that bears her surname has mined such a rich, diverse palette over the last two-plus decades—from trip-hop to synth-pop to folk—that a solo venture seems like little more than a chance to make music with people who aren’t Will Gregory.
The Love Invention was birthed during the pandemic, when the singer says she was forced to create music more independently than she had in years. She ultimately tapped Richard X, who co-produced Goldfrapp’s 2010 single “Alive,” and Ghost Culture’s James Greenwood to bring her vision to life, though the album doesn’t stray too far from Goldfrapp’s synth-pop roots.

Alison Goldfrapp has recorded her first official solo album, The Love Invention. The Goldfrapp singer’s solo debut drops May 12th via Skint/BMG Music, and as a preview, her new song “So Hard So Hot” is out now.
Goldfrapp — the person, not the band — has fronted the eponymous synth-pop duo with Will Gregory since 1999, but The Love Invention marks the first full-length the artist has put out on her own. Still, that doesn’t mean the album is without collaborators: Richard X, James Greenwood, and Toby Scott all appear on the LP’s credits.
“So Hard So Hot” mixes disco vibes and a more contemporary, bass-driven sound. “Do you know, do you know, do you know how stars are made?” Goldfrapp sings on the track. “Yeah you know, yeah you know, yeah you know how we radiate.” It comes with a psychedelic music video directed by Mat Maitland, which you can watch below.

It has now been over a decade since Metallica and the late Lou Reed teamed up for their maligned 2011 collaborative album Lulu.
Upon its release, the record was almost universally panned by critics and Metallica fans. Many felt that Reed’s deadpan spoken-word delivery and Metallica’s heavy riffs simply didn’t play well together. On the other hand, the late David Bowie deemed it Reed’s “greatest work.”
In a passage from Reed’s new posthumous book, The Art of the Straight Line: My Tai Chi, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich reflected positively on Lulu and blamed its harsh reception on “ignorance.”
“What the fuck is it about Lulu that it got that kind of reaction?” began Ulrich’s remarks (via Loudwire). “I can’t quite figure it out, but years later, it’s aged extremely well. It sounds like a motherfucker still. So I can only put the reaction...

Following criticism that the 2023 Glastonbury Festival features all-male headliners, the co-organizer of the famed British music fest has pledged that next year’s lineup will have two women with top billing.
On Friday, Glastonbury announced half of its 2023 lineup, and while the initial 52 artists billed are almost evenly split between male and female acts, the three main headliners — Guns N’ Roses, Arctic Monkeys, and Elton John — are predominately male artists; Gn’R’s lineup currently features keyboardist Melissa Reese.

The Glastonbury 2023 headliners have been announced by Emily Eavis.
The festival’s co-organiser shared the news in an article discussing “pipeline” problems related to the all-male headlining line-up.
Joining Elton John will be Arctic Monkeys on the Friday, headlining for their third time, with Guns N’ Roses playing the Saturday slot.
Eavis said that Guns N’ Roses replaced a female singer who “changed her touring plans”.
While Eavis didn’t name names, it’s strongly suspected she was alluding to Taylor Swift, who was originally set to perform in 2020 when the festival was cancelled due to Covid.
However, Eavis expressed excitement about the “Sweet Child O’ Mine” rockers’ Glastonbury debut, telling The Guardian: “They’ll be brilliant and provide something totally different to the rest of the headliners.”
She said that Lizzo will “open” for the band, with the “About Damn Time” singer receiving joint headline billing on the poster.

Amazon Studios has announced that it will co-produce BBC psychological thriller Chloe, and the six-part series has set a cast that includes The Crown star Erin Doherty.
Produced by Mam Tor Productions, run by former Cuba Pictures cofounder Tally Garner, Chloe was originally announced by the BBC in February 2020 and is created and written by Sex Education director Alice Seabright.
It centers on the character of Becky, who becomes obsessed with the death of her estranged friend Chloe. Becky assumes a new identity to infiltrate the enviable lives of Chloe’s closest friends as she attempts to establish what happened.
Through her alter-ego Sasha, Becky becomes a powerful, transgressive heroine; a popular, well-connected “someone” with a life, and loves, that are far more exciting and addictive than the “no one” she is as Becky. However, the pretense soon obscures and conflates reality, and Becky risks losing herself completely.

Av Festival, Newcastle upon Tyne
This imaginative festival mines the rich theme of "extraction" this year, with a host of films and events exploring human appropriation of raw materials in the broadest sense. It's a very literal theme for Chinese film-maker Wang Bing, whose epic films (such as the 14-hour Crude Oil and The Ditch) convey the full scope of industrial activity. There's music too, as Test Department regroup to bring industrial site Dunston Staiths – a massive structure on the Tyne – back to life for a series of outdoor audio-visual events.

Tales of Us is the latest release from British electronic dance duo Goldfrapp. The duo fronted by Alison Goldfrapp and producer Will Gregory are renowned for their euro brand of dance pop. Often hailed as a group who are always mixing up their sound upon each new release and surprising fans with their changes. As a fan of their previous work I was interested to hear what they had in store for their sixth release.

Batman 3 Dark Knight Rises to have a Whole New Sound
Composers have to be the unsung heroes of Hollywood because the music can either elevate a film up into the heavens or drag it down into the gutter, but Hans Zimmer doesn’t seem to be feeling any pressure as he comes back for more Batman action in The Dark Knight Rises.
Zimmer, who provided the musical score for the previous films in Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise, is back for Round 3, and that could pose an interesting challenge. Zimmer has the delicate balancing act of making music that’s familiar enough that audiences will know they’re watching a Dark Knight adventure while still offering something new so moviegoers don’t feel like they accidentally stumbled into a re-release of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight.

Holy News Storm, Batman! Cameos, Set Photos, Music, and More from the Set of 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Every single thing that happens with The Dark Knight Rises is news. It has been this way ever since the film has been announced. However, not everything deserves an article of its own. So to save time, here's all The Dark Knight Rises news you could possibly ask for...Until something new comes out tomorrow.
First, the big one. Recent reports from Twitter claim that Adam West has been spotted in the area where The Dark Knight Rises has been shooting. Coincidence? Probably. But Floss Magazine claims that the reports are true, and that Adam West will indeed have a cameo in the film. In my opinion, adding Adam West to anything couldn't possibly go wrong. I'm interested to see if this comes to fruition. Here's the tweet from Floss Magazine, if you are curious:
I don't know who these "Hollywood big wigs" are, but they certainly sound authentic! People with big wigs don't lie.

Today Hans Zimmer opened up about scoring The Dark Knight Rises. Zimmer is one of the best composers out there. Now, I realize there are different ways to judge the music of a film. However, I can you imagine the Pirates of the Caribbean movies with a different soundtrack?
Zimmer in recent years has composed for the Pirates films, Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, Rango, Megamind, both Kung Fu Panda's, Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, and the Modern Warfare 2 video game.
Sorry for the long list, but I felt it was necessary because of the insane fact that he did all of these films within the last Six Years.
Here is what he had to say on director Chris Nolan and preparing for a new film (which he has to do Very frequently):
“Chris and I do work really well together,” Zimmer told BBC News in a recent interview.

I thought Hans Zimmer’s The Dark Knight score with James Newton Howard was pretty special, taking the film away from the comic book and entering into a dark (sorry for that pun) territory as if it was a crime drama from Scorsese.
So what’s left to do? Zimmer talks with the BBC and hints at some directions he might go. “I’ve been listening to a lot of Verdi lately. And Alison Goldfrapp, and a lot of electronica as I’m heading into ‘Dark Knight’ territory again. I’ve been in the studio trying out ideas. I’m embarrassingly far advanced. I sent Chris some stuff the other day and he thought it was really unusual that I wasn’t holding the whole thing up. Of course I’ll try to make it different, but I’m not going to abandon the musical language of the previous film.

It's been really slow on the news front these past few days with the July Fourth holiday here in the States, but I have managed to compile five stories perhaps worth a few minutes of your time. We've got Hans Zimmer briefly talking about preparing for to score The Dark Knight Rises, potential candidates for Danny Boyle's next film, Adam Sandler is Dracula and a couple other nuggets of info. Get all the details below...
Adam Sandler will voice the lead role of Count Dracula in Sony Pictures Animation's 3D family comedy Hotel Transylvania, which is currently set for a September 21, 2012 release. The film will be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and centers on the Prince of Darkness, as the owner of Hotel Transylvania, a five-star resort for the world's monsters where he protects Mavis, his teenage daughter. But when a curious young traveler discovers the hotel -- and Mavis...

Which countries opted to not call Captain America: The First Avenger by its full name? Want to see some set construction photos from Man of Steel? Who is influencing Hans Zimmer as he writes the score for The Dark Knight Rises? Does four minutes of Batman Live sound cool? And did the guy above win Fourth of July? Read about all of that and much more in today's Superhero Bits. You're reading Superhero Bits, but what if it was called Superhero Briefs? This photo comes from Buzzfeed [1] (via The Daily What [2]) and begs the question, "Are these really essential?" What Culture [3] has an enlightening list of "10 Things You Didn't Know About Captain America" from both the comics, pop culture and more. Here's one example: Marvel’s first ever African-American superhero, the Falcon, was introduced in Captain America #117 (Sept. 1969). He donned the Falcon guise at the urging of Steve Rogers aka Captain America.

We won’t post any deceitful trash like short, blurry clips from the set of The Dark Knight Rises, but when it comes to some cool tidbits, certainly. Composer Hans Zimmer is back in the reigns, without the help of James Newton Howard this time around. After working with guitarist Johnny Marr for the Oscar-nominated Inception score, and Rodrigo y Gabriela for Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, there are no planned collaborations for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming mega-blockbuster, but talking with the BBC (via The Playlist) we do have some new, brief information.
He said he has “been in the studio trying out ideas” and he will “try to make it different,” but like Nolan’s storyline it will be in sync with the rest of the trilogy. He says, “it’s a matter of knocking down some walls and making it broader, wider and more epic.” When it comes to influences,...

The sky above Leicester Square was bathed in a dazzling neon blue light display last Sunday evening as The Empire played host to the premiere of the eagerly anticipated state-of-the-art geek-tastic blockbuster Tron: Legacy.
The film (which opens on 17 December) is the follow-up to Disney’s then ground-breaking sc-fi adventure from 1982. The original wasn’t a huge box office success upon release, but has since garnered a strong cult following, which was enough to convince the studio that their property may be worth revisiting.
The sequel begins a number of years after the original, where 7 year-old Sam Flynn is visited by father Kevin (Jeff Bridges), a video games wizard and creator of the original virtual reality world from the first film. Little Sam awakes the next morning to discover his father has seemingly vanished off the face of the earth.

Two weeks shy of its theatrical debut in the U.S., "Tron Legacy" has got a red carpet treatment overseas. On Sunday, November 5, the sequel to the 1982 film "Tron" celebrated its U.K. premiere at Empire Leicester Square in London, and one of its stars, Olivia Wilde, was captivating in her black dress.
Stealing the spotlight, the actress playing Kevin Flynn's confidante, Quorra, in the movie braved the frigid temperatures of London for the premiere. She rocked the red carpet, whose color has been traded into a blue one for the special occasion, in an asymmetric sequined Armani mini dress that she paired with Stella McCartney heels.
The 26-year-old, who is also known as Thirteen on "House M.D.", was snapped snuggling up to co-star Jeff Bridges when posing with him on the blue carpet. Jeff himself, who came to the premiere wrapped in a leather jacket, returned the friendly...

Walt Disney Pictures is gearing up to the release of "Tron Legacy" and has sent the stars for promotional duty. On December 5, Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges premiered the movie across the pond at Empire Leicester Square in London, England.
Without lead actor Garrett Hedlund seen anywhere around them, the two cuddled on the blue carpet as if to warm each other on the freezing night. Joined by director Joseph Kosinski, they appeared in black ensembles with Wilde still showing some skin under a one-shouldered sequined Armani dress.
"She looks amazing, doesn't she?" Bridges said, praising his co-star while giving her a hug. The "Tron" actor who reprises his role as Kevin Flynn in the sequel went on dishing on the upcoming film. He stated, "They came up with one and I am thrilled with it. It's wonderful. I had heard the rumors for so long. It's a real ride.

Why more and more straight women are fantasising about lesbians. Plus, what's small and furry and looks like Karl Lagerfeld?
Where once there were fishnet stockings and cloudy-lensed pillow fights, now there are wistful feminine dreams of sharing shoes. Has the heterosexual man's lesbian fantasy been overtaken by the heterosexual woman's?
While The Kids Are All Right (the family comedy in which Julianne Moore and Annette Bening play a lesbian couple with two teenage kids) gathers excellent reviews, and celebrities such as Mary Portas, Jane Lynch, Alison Goldfrapp and Portia de Rossi are increasingly pictured looking blissfully happy beside their female partners, the image of the gay woman is finally going mainstream. Britain, therefore, is duly amending its fantasies.

Now that Christina Aguilera has started to release details about her new album Bionic, it appears as though her assertion that she wasn't behind any of it is true. Thinking man’s diva revels in ’80s-pop artifice Alison Goldfrapp never does anything halfway. From the icy, otherworldly electro-acoustic soundscapes of 2000’s Felt Mountain to her subsequent romps through dance-pop and leering glam, she’s become a more dangerous and dignified counterpart to the look-at-me theatrics of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Now, following an unexpected shift toward pastoral psych-pop on 2008’s Seventh Tree, she and collaborator Will Gregory have circled back to dance music, this time with a pronounced emphasis on ’80s synth-pop and Italo disco....

Part three arrives and it comes with 20 more films to keep an eye on this year as potential Oscar candidates. If you missed parts one and two, the links for both of those can be found on the bottom of page two of this post.
With today's list of films it brings the total previewed thus far to 60 early Oscar contending films and already one reader has sent in a potential new candidate I am looking into further to see if the list again will grow from it's current total of 73 films to 74 and what may amount to a fifth film for Helen Mirren. With no films this year for Meryl Streep, it looks like Mirren is stacking the deck.
I will again remind you, this is merely a guide to potential nominees, not a guarantee, not a lock, but simply films that could potentially go on to be remembered at the year-end Oscar race.

So the biggest music news this March was supposed to be the release of the Scissor Sisters newest album, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Here we are on the 15th and still no official release date, no album title, no lead single … nothing. Maybe those folks lucky enough to see their upcoming live shows in New York and Texas will get a taste of it, but even that’s just speculation.
I guess we’ll just have to live with the suspense a little longer.
Thankfully there is plenty of new music coming out this month, and on top of that, we’ve got some even more amazing new music videos.
First up we’ve got new music from the B-52’s frontman, Fred Schneider and his new group, The Superions.

Goldfrapp have debuted a music video in support of their latest single "Rocket". Alison Goldfrapp is taking behind the wheel of a trailer with a male companion, who is wrapped in glossy gray duct tape, sitting on the passenger seat.
