Hitman is getting into the Christmas spirit next week with a free Dlc mission for all players, Io Interactive has announced. Due to be made available on all platforms from December 13, the bonus content is being released in support of the World Cancer Research Fund and, while you’re not obligated to, Io is asking those that enjoy the content to consider making a donation – no matter how big or small – to the charity.
“Cancer is something which affects everyone in one way or another at some point in their lives and we at Io wanted to do something to help raise money for Cancer research,” says Io’s studio head Hannes Seifert, adding that “all contributions of any amount are appreciated.” As for the Dlc itself, it’s called ‘Holiday Hoarders,’ and sees Agent 47 return to Paris once more, only this time you’ll be greeted with “snow, decorations and even presents,...

Hitman‘s sixth episode arrives today, bringing an end to the episodic game’s first season.
The final destination on Agent 47’s whistle-stop tour of the globe sees the silent assassin tasked with infiltrating a medical facility in order to put to rest one final target.
The “climactic season finale,” which is set within the grounds of the “hyper-exclusive” Gama private hospital and resort, splices traditional Japanese beauty together with cutting-edge technology, so you can look forward to skulking through Zen gardens, sushi restaurants and Japanese hot springs while attempting to locate your mark.
The release of Episode 6 sees the end of a long road for Io Interactive, who had faced questions over the viability of an episodic model upon the initial announcement. Studio head Hannes Seifert believes the studio has managed to meet expectations however, stating on Sony’s PlayStation Blog that the project has been “an incredible journey,...

Hannes Seifert, Studio Head at Io Interactive, has conceded that the developer’s back-and-forth over Hitman‘s launch plans may have caused confusion, and apologized for detouring from the original vision.
In an interview with VideoGamer, the executive was quizzed about Io’s episodic release schedule for the hotly-anticipated stealth reboot, which will debut exactly one month from today heralding one location and the prologue mission, before extra content is rolled out shortly thereafter.
“So we had this [plan] pretty early, and then of course the market also had to evolve in a certain way for it to make complete sense. After all, [Hitman] is a Aaa game, it needs its audience, it needs its target market, and it comes with a lot of expectations after 15 years of games.
“All of these things combined I think made us detour from our original vision a few times, and now we’ve landed back on it.

Square Enix/Io Interactive have once again changed up how they are going to release the new Hitman game. Turns out it's going to be in episodes now. Read on to find out what it will take to play the new game.
Back in September, we reported that Square Enix/Io Interactive was changing how you'd be able to purchase Hitman. Originally, you could buy Hitman at either $60 or on what essentially would be a trial basis at $34. Since then, they must have seen the light and decided instead to release it episodically.
Here's how it works. Gamers will have the option to buy the full game at $60. Think of that price as like the season pass. You'd get what is included in the game plus all the episodes, maps, contracts, etc as it's released.
The other option they are providing is to buy each episode as they come. They...

Despite numerous previous insistences that the upcoming Hitman game would be a complete product, its developers have now admitted it will be an episodic title after all. The content will be spread across the early part of 2016 after the game’s launch in February, and the updates will also continue later on in the year.
Square Enix and Io Interactive now seem content to embrace the nature of their new Hitman game, and explained the decision in a statement from Io chief Hannes Seifert:
We decided to take the full leap and publish Hitman as a truly episodic game experience. Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a Hitman game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve...

Strip away the negative connotations that have now become synonymous with Early Access and the core concept behind opening up an unreleased video game to the public boasts massive potential. In doing so, developers can tap into a pool of public Qa testers and gain crucial criticism that eventually loops back into the final product. However, unpolished projects and elements of fraud soon sullied Steam’s game-changer and the term itself, hence when Io Interactive refrain from associating it with its upcoming Hitman reboot.
What has drawn this comparison is the studio’s method of approach; rather than dropping the entire title in one fell swoop, Io plans to release content for the shooter incrementally after launch. Now, before you grab your pitchforks, Hitman‘s price will be locked at $60, and there are currently no plans to implement microtransactions.
According to Studio Head Hannes Seifert, “everything we launch will be finished,...

Square Enix has retooled Io Interactive as a Hitman-only dev, prompting severe layoffs...
Io Interactive, which made its name developing the assassination series, Hitman, has been the target of Square Enix's own cleaners, and half of the staff have been let go.
These “significant changes” come as part of a restructuring, with a major focus on moving the team to work purely on Hitman, specifically a “triple-a” outing for Agent 47.
Talking to Develop, Square said in a statement, “We are making significant changes at Io Interactive as we align our business against a changing and challenging market.
"Hannes Seifert, formerly Production Director for 3 years at the studio, will take over the position of Studio Head at Io. The studio will focus resolutely on the future vision for the Hitman franchise and is in pre-production on a new triple-a Hitman project."
