Skybound Entertainment is developing the sci-fi property Port of Earth — based on the namesake comic book series launched in 2017 by creator Zack Kaplan, Top Cow Productions, and Image Comics — for television with Amazon Studios.
Written by Kaplan with art by Andrea Mutti, the gritty sci-fi series Port of Earth, tells the story of an alien alliance called The Consortium who have come to Earth with a business proposition: open Earth as a spaceport for our customers to use and receive advanced technology upgrades in exchange.
When rogue aliens break the Port restrictions and wreak havoc in different cities, however, the terms of the deal begin to change. Soon it is up to the Earth Security Agents to send them back to the Port of Earth. With The Consortium representing thousands of alien planets the series delves into political issues of exploitation, occupation, espionage, duplicity, technology, and leverage,...

Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has optioned Zack Kaplan’s new Top Cow comic Eclipse for series development.
Eclipse, from creator Kaplan with art by Giovanni Tampano, is set to be available in stores Wednesday. After a solar flare drives the human population underground, daytime surface conditions are monitored by workers like David Baxter, equipped with special suits that protect them from the sun’s deadly radiation. Baxter’s solitary patrol of the empty cityscape is interrupted when he finds the scorched remains of someone left outside to burn – now, he must solve the murder himself.
Top Cow principals Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins will executive produce alongside Skybound Entertainment. Kaplan will be a co-executive producer on the project.
“Eclipse is a story that mixes post-apocalyptic and dystopian into a thrilling big world action drama, and explores the human condition while asking the question what if our life-giving sun turned on us.

Since January has given us an extra week, we decided to do a special Kickstarter episode! Sometimes there are amazing comic book creators who’s fantastic ideas could use a bit of help from fans in order to get us a finished book. We are featuring two great writers who are starting Kickstarter campaigns to promote their titles. From the LRMOnline family we have Kat Kalamia and Omar Morales writer for “Cruzader: Agent of the Vatican” and Guinness World Record holder for the largest comic book published. Kat is promoting her title “Life Father, Like Daughter” and Omar talks about the “Not Forgotten” anthology he is working on. We then venture into our Top 5 independent comics and finish off with the books for the week!

If Matt Hawkins is writing a book, most likely I am reading it. The one-shot issue of “Dante” (also co-written by Jason Ning) is no exception. As the book beings we are quickly thrown into Dante’s world, where he is a top assassin. But Dante is living a double life, as he also plays the role of a loving husband and father in a “normal” family setting. After years of servitude, Dante decides he wants out and thinks he can get off without any consequences. On one of his last jobs, Dante takes with him the man who is going to eventually replace him. During the job, he quickly realizes that he has been set up. While attempting to get away he accidently kills a young Asian boy, this ends up having grave consequences as the boy’s grandmother curses him which causes...

Image Comic's Witchblade is once again being adapted as a TV series. It's being produced by Sony Pictures Television and NBC Universal, and Cb confirmed that it will air on NBC.
According to the report, the new series will include "a police procedural element that makes sense given the fact that Sara Pezzini, the woman who wears the Witchblade, is a cop in the comics, as well." They go on to describe what we can expect to see in the series saying:
Homicide detective Sara Pezzini is on the hunt for an elusive serial killer. Pezzini must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District—until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that NBC is moving forward with a small screen adaptation of Marc Silvestri's Witchblade. The network has paired up with Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) to bring the Top Cow comic book to the small screen, and the latter is penning the script and will executive produce alongside her fellow The Vampire Diaries scribe Brian Young. According to the trade, Witchblade will, "focus on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, who must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District — until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. First of all I would like to congratulate Matt Hawkins, Bryan Hill and the rest of the creative team for their recent announcement that “Postal” is now being developed as a television show! They sold the option to Legendary TV about a year ago and got picked up by Hulu TV. This book started off as a television show pitch that ended up as a comic book and now will fulfill its original goal of becoming a television show. The characters in this book have been developed so well thanks to the amazing writing by Bryan Hill and visually they could not have found a more talented individual than Isaac Goodhart. Early this month I had a fantastic interview with Bryan Hill where we cover all things “Postal”, I will link it at the bottom of this review. To be honest that conversation could have gone on for hours as...

The last issue of Postal that we received before this one finished very strong leaving us the thought that Mark can possibly be just as bad if not more dangerous than his mother and father. The way he handled the situation with Molly Schultz proved this point. With so many things happening in and around Eden that are putting the town’s safety and secrecy in jeopardy daily Laura is going to need all the help she can get. As readers we know what’s coming and that is a crossover between Postal, The Tithe, and Think Tank, which are all amazing books on their own. What will happen when you put all these great characters in the same story? I personally cannot wait to get my hands on that crossover! But before that we have issue 13 of Postal, which may be the best single issue of this book to date.

“Danger: Reading this book will make you smarter”
This is the tag line above the title that you may have or may have not noticed. This book Will in fact make you smarter as it not only delivers a good story but an additional section in the back called “Science Class”, where Matt Hawkins talks about some of the ideas in the book and gives us some links to follow for further insight. The frightening or amazing (depending on your perspective) aspect about this section is that you come to the realization that the ideas or projects mentioned here are real. In my experience there has been no other group of titles (including The Tithe, Wildfire) that spark interesting conversations with people whether they read comics or not. Some comics you can absorb them quickly, like a Caprisun pouch drink, making you feel like you wasted your money. That is not the case here,...

From the beginning of Postal, we have seen Mark’s story slowly unravel and thus we have seen his character grow. For example we know that he suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and that is evident throughout the issues in the way he eats, organizes and even solves problems for his mother. Also he learned that he had a sister and also that his presumed dead father Isaac Shiffron, is in fact alive and very dangerous. He has also developed deep feelings for a waitress named Maggie who thanks to a psychotic violent new resident named Molly is now holding on to life in a hospital. This is where this month’s issue becomes what I think is a key moment in Postal. The Sheriff, Mark and Laura know that Molly has no place in Eden, but what can they do? She is the daughter of the FBI director that...

Despite the title, Think Tank does not take Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder lightly
At the end of Think Tank: Fun with Ptsd, writer Matt Hawkins takes a moment to discuss the subject of this one-shot, post-traumatic stress disorder. From the outset he explains, “Despite the title, I am Not making fun of Ptsd. I think if you read the story first you’ll know that, but I just want to make that extra clear. I consider it an important problem of our time, and something that will hopefully be fixable with our advances in brain research, nanotechnology, and neurochemistry.” This is followed by an in-depth discourse on what Ptsd is, how it can be treated, and the myths and misconceptions surrounding the disorder. There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

Director of the forthcoming Total Recall remake, Len Wiseman (Underworld) is being lined up as producer for the big-screen adaptation of the Top Cow comic series The Darkness, created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis and David Wohl. Top Cow’s Matt Hawkins will be executive producing the project alongside Silvestri.
Collider reports that New Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the feature film rights to the comic, which sees mafia hitman Jackie Estacado both blessed and cursed when he becomes the latest bearer of The Darkness, an ancient force that allows its bearer access to an otherworldly dimension and the demons who dwell there. Forces for good in the world rise up to face Jackie and the evil his gift represents, but there is one small problem. In this story… they are the bad guys.
No word on whether or not Wiseman will helm the project or hand it off to another director.

It's been a very long time since we heard any concrete news on a "Darkness" movie. It was reported last July that Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman would be producing a big-screen adaptation of Top Cow's flagship antihero alongside the publisher's own Matt Hawkins and Marc Silvestri, as well as David Manpearl. Little to no news since then, sadly, though we did put forth our own Jackie Estacado casting suggestions not too long ago.
Today, Collider has the word on some significant progress. They're reporting that Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the feature film rights to "The Darkness," with all of those aforementioned names still on board — and with the notable addition of "Total Recall" director and "Underworld" mastermind Len Wiseman as producer to boot!

I can’t say I ever expected this (pardon) bonding of source material and producers, but Deadline reports that Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca (The Social Network) will produce Universal and Focus Features’ Fifty Shades of Grey. You could also read that as: Two people who helped bring one of the new millennium’s best films to life are, now, springing upon us the literature sensation that’s given soccer moms a whole new lease on their sex life. You never know in this town.
Such a movement is, like it or not, a big one for the project, since Brunetti and De Luca will now help the studios find a helmer and cast. Names aren’t necessarily “out there” right now, but Deadline does insist that Angelina Jolie is still a part of the conversation; I never bought much into what seemed like, at best, speculation rooted in whispers,...

Top Cow's successful comic and video game series "The Darkness" is coming to the big screen.
Collider reports that Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the film rights to the comic with Len Wiseman, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, David Manpearl and Matt Hawkins all attached as producers.
The story deals with a primordial force called “The Darkness" which has been at war with its equal and opposite, The Angelus, since creation. Taking root in male hosts and awakening on their 21st birthday, the power allows its host to create and control anything he desires including people.
The current wielder is a former mob hitman who develops a slight control over it and must wrestle to keep from wholly giving into the power.

Comic creator tweets are fun to follow during Comic-Con International week, because they tend to keep appearing all night long. From pictures of run-ins between Stan Lee and Taylor Lautner to hang-outs with "A Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, the feed was loaded with fun this morning.
It's also a great week to watch for art posts. Take, for example, a really awesome Jon Snow portrait posted by Michael Cho. Check out his link, some on-stage panel shots and some words from Simon Fraser on the passing of artist Lucian Freud.

San Diego Comic-Con is upon us, and it already boasts big news: Mandeville Films is developing the Top Cow comic book series “The Darkness” into a feature film.
The Los Angeles Times acknowledges that, yes, there have been previous attempts to make a movie out of “The Darkness” before, but this time, Jackie Estacado's big-screen prospects look a bit more promising.
Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are set to produce, while David Manpearl and Top Cow's own Matt Hawkins and Marc Silvestri (who co-created the character) will executive produce.
The Los Angeles Times speculates that part of the reason “The Darkness” should move forward now is because of timing. Besides all the graphic novels being made into movies, this title’s dark atmosphere makes it a strong fit tonally with “The Dark Knight Rises.” “R.I.P.D.” was also brought up, though that’s more of a comedy, but...

It's been a while since we checked in with the Top Cow crew about "The Witchblade," the planned feature film based on the publisher's long-running, fan-favorite comic book series about a female police detective who fights evil with the aid of a supernatural artifact.
