For a faux finale, USA Network’s Shooter ended Season 2 (early) with a big bang.

As previously reported, Ryan Phillippe’s real-life broken leg necessitated that the drama’s sophomore run be cut short, with the eighth of 10 episodes having to serve as the finale. In that hour, titled “That’ll Be the Day,” Bob Lee was in the midst of compiling information on Solotov’s nest outside his farmhouse home, and the equipment he was using, when the gun range boss noted that Julie’s new pal Travis has a busted right mitt as well.

This Tuesday on Shooter (USA Network, 10/9c) — in what turned out to be Season 2’s penultimate episode — Julie Swagger will have her own drama to deal with while husband Bob Lee labors to extricate himself from a Mexican prison (ideally to make it home in time for daughter Mary’s first communion).
Because while Bob Lee and Isaac were getting the drop on Solotov’s money man, “something snapped” inside Julie, her portrayer Shantel VanSanten says, prompting her to “push back” against a creep who was crowding her at a local gun range — by discharging her gun right next to his ear.

Packy, the oldest male of his species in North America, died in captivity at the Oregon Zoo on Thursday. He was 54.
The elephant was euthanized after suffering from a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis and after veterinarians failed to find an alternative method to treat it, according to the Associated Press.
In a statement obtained by NBC News, the lead veterinarian for the Oregon Zoo, Dr. Tim Storms, said, “We’d run out of options for treating him. The remaining treatments involved side effects that would have been very hard on Packy with no guarantee of success, plus a risk of creating further resistance.

After an action-packed finale that wrapped the entire season up, quite nicely, I still managed to have just as many questions as I do answers.
I can definitively say that Shooter Season 1 Episode 10 certainly ended on a high note. It has been weeks since the news that the show would be returning for a second season, and as enjoyable as the episodes have been, a large part of me was still questioning whether or not the show had any longevity.
So can Shooter successfully pull off another season of Bob Lee Swagger and Co. taking down bad guys? After watching "Primer Contact" I'm going to say, possibly.
The episode picked up where Shooter Season 1 Episode 9 left off, with the Swaggers trying to put together a plan after Nadine informed them that Grigory kidnapped Mary and took her to the Russian embassy. As we've come to learn, hell hath no fury like a Swagger scorned.

I love the satisfaction that comes with a pesky adversary finally meeting their maker.
In fiction, of course. By all means, join me in jubilation as two of Shooter's most nefarious antagonists finally bit the bullet. May they burn for eternity in the fiery pits of hell where they belong.
Too much? Maybe a tad. I don't take it back though.
What more could you ask for in a penultimate season finale that Shooter Season 1 Episode 9 didn't give us? There was action, loads of action, not so surprise team-ups, all around badassery, and some resolution to most of the issues that have plagued Bob Lee and co. this season.

Holy Crap!
I haven't hid the fact that I enjoy Shooter best when it's giving us a ton of action. They have great choreographed fight scenes, and the rest of the action at its best, is akin to that of a suspense-thriller.
I was not ready to come down from the Die Hard marathon I fell into over the holiday season. I wanted to keep it up, and despite the majority of the action being a healthy dose of mental warfare, Shooter Season 1 Episode 8 did not disappoint.
So we finally got that Lon and Bob Lee face-off, and sadly, it wasn't as thrilling as we were led to believe it would be. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand why it played out the way it did and appreciated that, but man I can't wait until those two really get to go at it.

Things are finally coming to a head on Shooter.
The entire covert operation involving Hugh, Isaac, Payne, and the latest player, Lon, are unraveling on the edges. Lon is bailing on Payne, and Isaac is finally jumping ship after pissing Hugh one too many times.
There were a lot of power plays happening on Shooter Season 1 Episode 7, and the man behind the Black King was finally revealed.
As much as Isaac annoys me to no end, it was so great to see him finally questioning everything he knew about this operation that he found himself in. He had been doing it for quite some time now, but this time he's reached a point of no return and he's officially jumped ship.
In fact, with Isaac finally being pushed too far, and Payne, ever the unpredictable liability (as bloodthirsty and sadistic "sociopaths" are bound to be) being blown, I'm fully anticipating...

And the high-stakes scavenger haunt continues.
Who would have thought it would take this much to track down one shooter? We know about the special type of bullet and we even know about the specific rifle.
It seems simple enough, but each episode another tidbit is dropped that changes things up and drags out the process. In Shooter Season 1 Episode 6 we find out that not only is it the specific bullet, but it was fired with a rare rifle, the Black King, and there are less than a handful of them in existence.
William Fichtner guest starred as Bob Lee's former mentor O'Brien, and he was fantastic in the role. O'Brien made my heart hurt, giving the sadder side of a tormented, curmudgeon veteran who lost everything he loved and was isolated and alone.
I ain't afraid to play God, boy.

Ryan Phillippe has broken his leg, so Shooter season 2 will stop after 8 episodes (instead of the originally-intended 10)...
While the 2007 Mark Wahlberg-starring suspense thriller Shooter wasn’t the kind of box-office blowout hit that would conventionally yield further revisiting, USA nevertheless decided to make a go of a television series adaptation. While its would-be summer 2016 premiere was delayed, mired in the content-sensitive aftermath of the Baton Rogue police shootings, its eventual November premiere yielded good results. Consequently, a second season was ordered.
That second season has already started airing, but now it's hit problems.

Never underestimate the power of silence.
That's one of many things I took away from Shooter Season 1 Episode 4 after watching Julie, but more specifically Nadine talk too damn much. Why can't you keep your mouths shut ladies? Actual lives are at stake!
I have been a fan of the ladies of Shooter, but this time they let me down. Well, except Mary, who is a doll. But the real Mvf (Most Valuable Female) was Donnie's mother. Loyal and honorable to the bitter end.
R.I.P. to Donnie's mom. You never disappointed and you shall be avenged!
I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. Nadine is a hell of an agent. She's good, great even, at what she does. She just really needs to trust herself more. But the one thing she has to work on, is not talking so damn much.
If you listened closely...

What an explosive episode!
Yes, that pun was shamelessly intended. Judge me. I don't care. I'm too stoked about all the progress made in Shooter Season 1 Episode 3!
I was hesitant about how the series would play out, especially after Shooter Season 1 Episode 1, but I'm so glad that my reservations about it have all but vanished. The series is every bit the fun, suspense, and action that I hoped it would be!
Now that we're three episodes in, a rhythm has developed and all the characters are finding their footing with their select roles.
Bob Lee is the badass man on a mission; an unstoppable force that will give everyone and everything a run for their money. He's a little over-hyped at times, but after a bit of a rocky start, Ryan Phillipe is believable in this role!
Julie is the strong support system, holding her own, smart, savvy, and not one to be underestimated.

They picked the wrong patsy!
Bob Lee Swagger is not to be trifled with and he finally got to show off a bit of his skills on Shooter Season 1 Episode 2. Badass Bob Lee Swagger is not going down without a fight, and if he has to take a few people out and expose others, he's going to do it.
The ball finally got rolling in the second installment of the series, once the pilotitis was out out of the way. It even gave us some of the very much appreciated action that I was desperately craving.
Let's get to it!
Dr. Foreman got under my skin, back when I was watching House M.D. but I have never found myself disliking Omar Epps on sight, the way I disliked him during this hour of television. It speaks to how great he is, that he has made me hate Isaac so passionately just two episodes in!

Well, the wait is finally over!
It was beginning to feel like Shooter would never actually see the light of day. There were so many postponements, delays, and halts it was hard to keep up. And the idea of Ryan Phillippe not being on my television screen would have been a crying shame.
Is he a vampire? Sometimes I wonder. Even with the beard and overall gruff look, I'm not entirely sure he's aged since 1995. But I digress.
Shooter Season 1 Episode 1 was everything I expected out of a pilot. It's not entirely bad, but it's not entirely good either.
Naturally, the pilot's sole purpose is to set up the foundation for the rest of the series.
Even though the series is based on a movie, and of course a novel, we weren't spared from the slow and tedious introduction to Bob Lee Swagger, his family, and the other players. It...

Based on the Stephen Hunter novel Point of Impact and the 2007 Mark Wahlberg film, Shooter was pushed back twice from its original July 19 premiere date, due to real-life gun violence in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
So, was the show’s eventual launch everything you’d hoped?

“Shooter” will make its long-awaited debut on USA Network tonight, and star Ryan Phillippe is ready and able to back up his onscreen role as expert sniper Bob Lee Swagger. Speaking with TheWrap, Phillippe said he was a better-than-expected marksman while training for the role. “I’m there with three Marine snipers, which can be a little intimidating,” Phillippe said. “But in all truth and honesty, and this can be backed up by many sources, on my second shot at 900 yards I hit a 12-inch steel target and the Marines kind of didn’t know what to say.” Also Read: USA Shelves 'Shooter'.

Welcome to a somewhat light month for traditional new TV programming – all the better to pay attention to the noteworthy broadcasts emerging from more unlikely sources. (There are a few interesting, big-name shows dropping on Netflix and Amazon this month as well, of course – check our Best Things to Stream feature tomorrow for those.) Sure, there's prestige-lite TV like Showtime's temporally tweaked soap opera The Affair, returning for its third season. But how about an autobiographical, Christianity-infused holiday special from Dolly Parton, who cameos as a “working girl”? Or perhaps...

Initially postponed one week in light of the Dallas sniper attack – from July 19 to July 26 – USA Network has now opted to push Shooter all the way to fall, claiming it is simply “not the right time” for the spinoff series.
USA made the decision soon after the fatal shooting of three police officers in Baton Rogue this past weekend, with an official statement revealing that, “after further consideration, USA Network, Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions have decided to move the premiere of Shooter to the fall.” No premiere date was disclosed at the time of writing.
Thrusting Ryan Phillippe into the role of ex-Marine Bob Lee Swagger, Shooter chronicles his journey out of a self-imposed exile “by his former commanding officer and now top Secret Service agent Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps),” with the nation gripped by an assassination threat against the President of the United States.
