A three hour documentary about iconic comedian Ken Dodd will premiere in June, and here are the details.
There are few comics, before him or since, who were as hardworking as Ken Dodd. Known for the epic length of his performances, he performed shows that began at 7.30, wouldn’t have an interval until 10.30, with gigs regularly finishing in the small hours.
Dodd passed away in 2018 at the age of 90, and left a legacy of laughter in a career that began in the 1940s.
Ken Dodd is now set to be the subject of new documentary The Real Ken Dodd: The Man I Loved. As a tribute to Dodd’s shows, the film is a whopping three hours long.
The film, narrated by the irrepressible Miriam Margoyles, also features tributes from the comedy community, including Lee Mack, Harry Hill, Johnny Vegas, Tim Vine, Les Dennis, Ricky Tomlinson, Stephen K Amos, Shaparak Khorsandi and the late,...

James Acaster has responded to rumours that he will replace Matt Lucas as the new host of The Great British Bake Off.
Following the announcement in December that the Little Britain star is stepping down from the baking competition series, many fans had begun to speculate who would replace him, with Acaster among the rumoured frontrunners.
Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday (11 March) alongside Prue Leith, stand-up comedian Acaster – who made a memorable appearance on the Stand Up to Cancer celebrity edition in 2019 – addressed his rumoured involvement.
“No-one’s spoken to me about it and rightly so,” he said.
“It was traumatic what happened to me in that tent. I think if I was one of the hosts, I’d be constantly having flashbacks and full meltdowns and I don’t think that’s very relaxing for the contestants.”

Matt Lucas’ time in the tent is over.
The Little Britain star announced Tuesday (6 December) that he was stepping down as one half of the hosting team on Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off.
While fans have expressed their sadness at the comedian’s decision to move on, it does mean the door is open for another presenter to take on one of the most coveted jobs in television.
Whoever is chosen will join The Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding – who has hosted the show since it moved to Channel 4 in 2017 – succeeding his past co-presenters Sandi Toksvig and Lucas.
Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most likely replacements for Lucas as well as some who we just think have what it takes to make the tent hum with amusement.

Actor and comedian Eddie Izzard has come forward to reveal that she will use “she” and “her” pronouns from here on out.
Izzard made the announcement while making an appearance on the Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year, a competition series where artists are challenged to create a portrait of three famous subjects. In this case, one of them was Izzard.
During her appearance, Izzard said, “I try to do things that I think are interesting. This is the first program I’ve asked if I can be ‘she’ and ‘her’ — this is a little transition period.”
This was a liberating moment for Izzard who added that it “feels great” to reveal her pronouns. On stage and off, Izzard is known for wearing makeup and outfits that are traditionally seen by many as womenswear. In the past, she has identified as a trans person and has been a leader...

When discussing "Ghostbusters," I have to tread lightly in certain regards. I spent a good portion of 2014 conducting interviews with many of the people involved with the films, and one of the things that we discussed was the way the future of the franchise might unfold. Those interviews are the property of the book company I was working for, and you'll learn all sorts of amazing things when they release that book later this year. I think it's safe to say, though, that Dan Aykroyd in particular seemed determined to open up the world of the Ghostbusters when we spoke, which should not be a surprise to anyone familiar with the development of the original film. When Aykroyd took his first shot at the script for the original film, it was a huge-canvass science-fiction movie with inter-dimensional travel and Ghostbusters offices open in cities around the world. In the 1984 film,...

In this remarkable comeback gig, one of comedy's great survivors demonstrates her superbly polished style – and her fearless honesty
Title: Margaret Cho: I'm the One That I Want
Date: 1999
The setup: In 1994, it seemed obvious that Margaret Cho was going to be a star. Having honed her act from the age of 16, she was young, funny and fearless , the winner of an American Comedy Award, and doing warm-up gigs for Jerry Seinfeld. Being Korean-American also made her fresh and distinctive. And when the president of Disney called her personally one Sunday to tell her that she had got her own sitcom on ABC, that seemed to settle things.
And All-American Girl, as it was called, did indeed make her a star – but only eventually. Not only was the show a critical and commercial disaster, reviled by many Asian-Americans and cancelled after a single series, but Cho came under constant pressure over her weight,...

Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon brought their UK press tour for Water For Elephants to The Graham Norton Show studios in London last night. The costars chatted about their new circus drama, and also shared space on the stage with fellow guests Shappi Khorsandi and House actor Hugh Laurie. Robert and Reese have been traveling all around Europe for the last few weeks to show off the film with screenings in Berlin, Paris, and Barcelona. Yesterday was their UK premiere of Water For Elephants, which they followed up with an afterparty at the Home House Private Members Club. They're certainly among the hardest-working movie stars - where do Robert and Reese rank on your PopSugar 100 list of the top A-listers? Robert's real-life leading lady, Kristen Stewart, is also in the running in that category. She's had a busy few days too, staying in NYC to attend the Costume Institute Gala...

Organisers of the Funny Women competition have apologised for a recent online row. A number of female comedians such as Shappi Khorsandi and Sarah Millican, who was a runner-up of the competition in 2005, used Twitter to express their disgust at Funny Women's decision to charge potential competitors £15 to enter. Millican encouraged wannabe comedians not to pay the entry fee, saying that instead they should "be funny, write loads and work very hard". Khorsandi said that they were better off buying "a new hat" rather than paying "to enter a competition". (more)...

The organisers of the annual Funny Women competition have defended their decision to start charging contestants a registration fee of £15. Several comedians including Sarah Millican, Bethany Black, Shappi Khorsandi
and Jo Caulfield took to Twitter to complain about the change and the event's founder Lynne Parker. Millican said: "Advice to any budding female comedians, no need to pay to play by entering Funny Women. Just be funny, write loads & work very hard." Khorsandi added: "Aspiring comics! Never pay to enter a competition! Buy a new hat instead." Black said: "If Lynne hasn't been able to raise the money to cover the costs then that's her failure. Why should comics who are at the start of their career pay for that failure?" Caulfield added: "As the website face of Funny Women and Pay2Play I advise (more)...

Iran in turmoil is the backdrop to this enigmatic and impressive debut. By Peter Bradshaw
The Anglo-Iranian comic Shappi Khorsandi recently revealed that Jon Snow had told her about a conversation he had once had some years ago with the then prime minister, Tony Blair. The premier had asked Snow, plaintively, why Iran hated the British so much. Snow replied hesitantly: "Well, you know, because of Mossadeq …" – that is, the left-leaning Iranian leader, toppled in 1953 by a coup instigated by the British and American governments because of his determination to nationalise oil. Blair replied blankly: "Who?" Perhaps watching this excellent movie would be a way for Blair, and the rest of us, to brush up on British and Iranian history.
With this debut feature, the photographer-turned-director Shirin Neshat has made a picture with vision, poetry, sexual frankness and historical sinew. It brings together, on screen, the personal and the political...

How would Sky Sports News react as the votes were counted on a tense election night?
Those of you familiar with Hitchcock's film The Lady Vanishes may remember the characters played by Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne continuing to obsess about cricket, as war clouds gathered over Europe, and little old ladies bizarrely were put in charge of important messages about troop movements. Well, on election night, I think I found the modern equivalent.
I thought it might be quite fun, as the marathon election programmes began, to turn to Sky Sports News to see if they were even acknowledging that an election was taking place; and blow me if they were not reading out county cricket scores. Having just switched over from some economic expert reporting that in New York the Dow Jones was falling faster than Vanessa Feltz on a bungee rope, it was strangely soothing to find...

Religious controversy aside, Chris Morris's new film challenges the perception all terrorists are evil geniuses with pointed beards
Everybody remembers where they were. As the second plane slammed into the World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001 the entire world sat up and paid attention to a new global narrative flickering into life. A generation in search of its defining moment had found it. Terrorism had arrived in the 21st century.
Almost 10 years later and a young Muslim man is attempting to attach explosives to a crow with the intention of training it to fly into buildings. The man whispers softly to the bird that it will be a martyr to the cause of Islam, before tiptoeing away as it detonates in a cloud of feathers.
The setting is not, of course, a training camp in Pakistan but a scene in the Chris Morris film Four Lions, a comedy about four wannabe suicide bombers.
