Michael Jackson‘s “Smooth Criminal” doesn’t seem too provocative. However, one artistic choice in the song’s music video caused Jackson to leave his religion. He later looked to another celebrity for spiritual guidance.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ upset some Jehovah’s Witnesses
Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine said the Jacksons were Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian denomination that began in the United States in the 19th century. They call their houses of worship “Kingdom Halls” rather than “churches.”
In 1982, Michael unintentionally upset members of his faith. Some Jehovah’s Witnesses felt that the iconic music video for “Thriller” was Satanic and asked that he not release it. That’s why the video begins with a disclaimer disavowing the occult. Jermaine dismissed the idea that there was anything evil about “Thriller,...

Republican Jewish activists, leaders, and perennial GOP donors are waging a behind-the-scenes pressure campaign to force Donald Trump into denouncing and disowning rapper Kanye West, Trump’s on-and-off friend and political supporter.
It’s not working.
According to three sources with knowledge of the matter, this multi-pronged — and so far unsuccessful — effort to get Trump to denounce West follows the ex-president’s “Nazi” Mar-a-Lago dinner last month with the anti-Semitism-spewing, Hitler-lauding West and fascist youth leader Nick Fuentes.
High-profile Jewish Trump supporters and conservative pro-Israel donors have angrily demanded an audience with the ex-president.

In his run for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat, Mehmet “Dr.” Oz has tried to convince voters that — despite his close ties to Donald Trump — he’s moderate enough to represent their battleground state. Most notably, while the former president falsely insists the 2020 election was stolen, Oz has at times recognized its legitimacy.
Oz’s tact is a departure from the state’s other high-profile Republican, Doug Mastriano, who’s running for governor with a rapturous embrace of Trump’s election lies. But it’s Oz’s approach...

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach had for years encouraged his dear friend, Mehmet “Dr.” Oz, to run for office, spending hours talking about their shared desire for a unifying, “values-based campaign,” and what an Oz-led version of that would look like. Now, Oz is taking his old friend’s advice and running for a Senate seat, and Boteach is disgusted by what he sees.
“The man running for Senate is not Dr. Oz. This person is unrecognizable to me,” Boteach, a high-profile media personality and figure in conservative pro-Israel circles, tells Rolling Stone.

The Conners premiered its first episode on Tuesday night, finally putting to rest any speculation about how the Roseanne spinoff deals with the absence of Roseanne Barr's titular character.
Barr's initial reboot of the show was of course axed by ABC after a string of vile, racist tweets and abrasive behavior from the 65-year-old, and she revealed during an interview a few weeks before the The Conners premiere that the show planned on killing off Roseanne Conner via opioid overdose. Now that we know that is indeed how the character dies - she overdoses on medication prescribed to her following knee surgery - Barr is speaking out about how disappointed she is with the twist in a joint statement with her Rabbi, Shmuley Boteach.

Just hours after the series premiere of ABC’s The Conners, showrunner Bruce Helford is opening up about why he chose to — spoiler alert! — kill off the character of Roseanne Conner.
In Tuesday night’s debut, the Conner family was still in mourning three weeks after the death of its former matriarch. The family believed Roseanne had died of a heart attack, but a phone call from the coroner’s office revealed that she actually was felled by an opioid overdose, stemming from a prescription painkiller addiction she developed during last spring’s Roseanne revival.

ABC’s “Roseanne” spinoff “The Conners” kicked off its season premiere with confirmation that the character once played by Roseanne Barr had been killed off the series after suffering an opioid overdose from pills she was taking to treat a knee injury. Barr took to her Twitter page for an instant reaction to her character’s fate following the conclusion of the episode, defiantly tweeting, “I Ain’T Dead, Bitches!!!!” The actress then published a longer, more official statement along with her rabbi, Shmuley Boteach.
“While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of ‘The Conners,’ all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character,” Barr and Boteach wrote. “That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show.

Over 100 well-known names – including writers, actors, directors and musicians – have signed a pledge supporting Lorde's decision not to perform in Israel.
The statement was published in The Guardian following backlash over the Kiwi singer’s cancellation of her concert in Tel Aviv. It is a direct response to a full page ad published in the Washington Post on January 1 which called Lorde a bigot and also attacked her homeland of New Zealand.
“We deplore the bullying tactics being used to defend injustice against Palestinians and to suppress an artist’s freedom of conscience. We support Lorde’s right to take a stand,” reads the letter in The Guardian. "Shmuley Boteach, the author and promoter of the advert, supports Israel’s illegal settlements and wrote last month on Breitbart to thank Donald Trump for “electrifying the world” with his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in defiance of international law.

Did Steve Bannon intend all along to make his secret whiteboard public? When Rabbi Shmuley Boteach tweeted a couple of selfies from the White House on Tuesday, he gave the world a sneak peek of Steve Bannon’s list. Behind Boteach and Bannon was a handwritten whiteboard scribbled with what appears to be Bannon’s plan for a number of policies, mostly related to immigration tax reform and healthcare, complete with check marks presumably indicating task completion. The seemingly accidental revelation of the White House’s most inner-workings set off a mini-media frenzy, with major publications deciphering each annotation and detail.

London, December 15: Roger Waters has sparked fury after he compared Israelis to Nazis.
The former Pink Floyd frontman had said that the Israeli rabbinate were "bizarre" and accused them of believing that Palestinians and other Arabs in the Middle East were "sub-human", the Guardian reported.
Waters had said that the "Jewish lobby" was "extraordinarily powerful", and that there were many people who pretended that the oppression of the Jews was not going on.
He went on to add that this was not a new scenario and right now Palestinian people were being murdered in the same way.
However, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a Sheldon Adelson-backed Republican congressional candidate with ties to Michael Jackson, talks to random voters, a dog, scarecrows and a Ups delivery guy in a new comedy video released by his campaign Thursday.
Boteach, who is challenging Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-n.J.), used the video to seek out what he describes as Pascrell's "army of political consultants." He talks to 15 random people on the street -- including several who look baffled -- asking them if they work for Pascrell and if they would take a job with the Democratic incumbent. They all say "no." In addition to the human conversations, Boteach talks to several decorative scarecrows on a suburban sidewalk and a dog sitting in a minivan.

New York -- Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, the Sheldon Adelson-backed Republican congressional candidate running against Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-n.J.), has released another comedy video of himself talking to an empty suit.
Boteach, a celebrity rabbi and former spiritual adviser to Michael Jackson, released the ad as part of his "Where's Bill?" campaign, in which he accuses the Democratic incumbent of not running a campaign in the race. Boteach released the first ad, which bares similarities to Clint Eastwood's speech to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention, earlier this month. The first video introduced the empty suit concept.
In the latest ad, Boteach continues to carry an empty suit on a hanger around downtown Paterson, N.J, talking to it as if it's Pascrell. Boteach and the suit venture to a closed church, a vacant lot with a sign promoting future residential development and a office building advertising vacancies.

A new article pegs Daniel Radcliffe’s net worth at around $45 million, which is slightly more than Prince Harry and Prince William. It’s darned impressive, but are they really taking into account the ridiculous wealth that Prince William possesses through land titles and such?
So over the weekend the police were called to a laser tag arena in Canada in response to a complaint that 16-year-old Justin Bieber assaulted a 12-year-old patron during a match. It sounds awful on the surface, except further reports surfaced that Bieber just pushed past the kid when he got cornered in the match, like anyone would. Then even further reports surfaced that the 12-year-old called Bieber a faggot. So now the headline has gone from “Justin Bieber assaults 12-year-old boy” to “Bieber victim of anti-gay bullying.”

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and Christopher Hitchens face off at Cooper Union on September 16, 2010. Photographs by Anthony Geathers. Christopher Hitchens, looking all too svelte in his tan suit, his scalp gleaming under the lights, took to the stage at Cooper Union last night to argue against the existence of an afterlife, only to have his adversary, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, tell him he was destined for eternal happiness—because of his support for the war in Iraq, “because of his stand against Halabja” (where Saddam gassed 5,000 Kurds). “For this, I got on the shuttle?” Hitchens exclaimed, referring to the short flight to New York from his home city of Washington, D.C. In an effort to mix things up a bit, Hitchens said the afterlife was “a verdict against which there is no appeal,” and called the Orthodox Boteach a “Jewish secularist,” and Pope Benedict an “overdressed little ponce.” As an example...

I have to apologize. I have been writing that the rise of a new kind of rightwing xenophobic bigoted chauvinistic Israeli-firster symbolizes the decline of one of the world's great civilizations. I was wong. One particular rightwing, xenophobic, bigoted chauvinistic Israeli-firster is the best symbol of that decline: Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. Believe me, a few years ago, rabbis like this didn't exist. But then we werea great peole. But now here comes Shmulely. Homophobia, Islamophobia, racial prejudice, religious bias, Muslim-baiting, and a general 17th century view of the world is clearly not enough for a rabbi who wants to be a star. Clearly, the rabbi has been at a loss since Michael Jackson died. The only thing I'm glad about is that this guy didn't leech on to Mike Tyson. Somehow he missed that celebrity in...

Jon Gosselin agrees with the rest of us: he is a jerk.
The man whose former girlfriend Hailey Glassman was inspired by him to coin the term ‘mantrum,’ popped up at the West Side Jewish Center in New York last fall to issue his mea culpa to Rabbi Shmuley Boteach before a crowd of 150.
Humiliating his soon-to-be-ex-wife and the mother of his eight children, Kate Gosselin, by publicly carrying on relationships with three different women while they were still married, he said, ‘was a huge mistake, because if she would’ve done that to me, I would have been extremely pissed off. Not because our relationship is over, it’s almost like a stab in the back. And now that I think about it, it was a very wrong thing to do. I definitely regret it.’
Ha, now that he thinks about it.

The Jon Gosselin story is the Halloween tabloid zombie that cannot be killed no matter what. Spotlight loving Rabbi Shmuley Boteach is now deep in the mix, counseling Jon on extricating himself from the 20-something daughter of the plastic surgeon who tucked ex wife Kate's tummy. Through the socially undermining service known as Twitter, Hailey has twitted about Jon's "mantrums" and man boobs to all who subscribe to her Twit feed. Glassman flung it like a monkey at her haters: "If I'm disliked and hated on, fine," she wrote on her Twitter page early Sunday. Allegedly per Shmuley, Jon has severed ties with the woman he professed his love to on CNN's Larry King chat show. "I just...

Jon Gosselin's liaison with girlfriend Hailey Glassman while he is still legally wed to Kate goes against the Jewish faith and is just not a good idea, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach tells the Huffington Post. He hinted that the relationship may end Sunday, when Jon makes a public apology to those he has hurt at NYC's West Side Synagogue. The rabbi, whom Jon has consulted for spiritual guidance and parenting advice, is a father of 9 himself and served as a spiritual adviser to Michael Jackson. He has counseled Jon to break up with Hailey, 22, who is Jewish and made Jon half so, until his divorce is final.
