Born in Southern Pines, North Carolina while father was in the Air Force. Later
moved to Charlotte, NC among other places. After his parents retired
they moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina, where he graduated from high school. He went
to the Citidel Military College in Charleston, South Carolina for 2 years, then
went into the Marines. Got married, had a child. Got out of the
Marines, Got a divorce. Got married again in 1984. Went back to college
at UNCC and received a degree in History. Enlisted in the Army. Got an
inter service transfer to the Air Force, which he just retired from
(2007). Ralph P. Ganis is the author of Uncommon Men: A Secret Network
of Jesse James Revealed, and Desperate Measures: Jesse James and the
Klan Battles of Reconstruction. He was awarded the Perry Award
in 1997 for discoveries on the James Gang and the Admiral Chester W.
Nimitz Award for excellence in archival research. He was the
historic collections consultant for the movie the Assassination of
Jesse James starring Brad Pitt. Ganis has a Master of Science of
Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence Agency.
