Wattpad Webtoon Studios, the screen entertainment arm of web-based publisher of Webtoon Entertainment, and Skybound Entertainment, the banner behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, are teaming up to develop an adaptation of webcomic hit Freaking Romance.
Matthew Kic and Mike Sorce, rising scribes who have twice had scripts on the Black List, have been tapped to pen the screenplay for what is intended to be a live-action feature.
Aron Levitz, David Madden and Jason Goldberg will produce for Wattpad Webtoon. Robert Kirkman, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs are producing the film via Skybound. Skybound’s Fred D. Lee will oversee the project.
The story centers on a young woman named Lily who moves into the only place she can afford, a haunted apartment. She soon discovers that the so-called ghost occupying the house isn’t a paranormal apparition, but rather a man from another dimension, and before you know it,...

Could Invincible be getting more seasons on Prime Video? According to Skybound Republic, an investment/crowdfunding site that allows fans to invest in the label, more episodes of the ultra-violent comic book action series are coming. In a since-deleted portion of the webpage, the site said Invincible Season 3 is in production, while the show had been renewed for Seasons 4 and 5. The webpage promotes a video game set in the Invincible universe, which fans can help fund. The crowdfunded project sits at $442,700 as of this posting, with 14 days to go in the campaign.
A portion of the mission statement for the campaign describes why making a video based on a licensed property causes some problems:
“Most crowdfunded video games are centered around indie games, and retail investors rarely have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of Aaa game publishers. Skybound is developing a highly produced, high-octane blood bath that is anything but indie.

It appears Ezra Miller was quietly recast as mad scientist D.A. Sinclair in Season 2 of Prime Video’s Invincible.
Miller voiced the character in one episode in the first season of the adult animated series, but when Sinclair appeared in the March 28th episode, the character was voiced by Eric Bauza.
Deadline has reached out to Prime Video for comment.
Miller, embattled star of The Flash and Fantastic Beasts, has been embroiled in multiple scandals. Last year, they pleaded guilty to unlawful trespassing in a burglary case in Vermont after cutting a plea deal ahead of the hearing. In 2022, Miller agreed to mental health treatment after a string of run-ins with the law.
Based on the Skybound/Image comic, from The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, Invincible revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yeun, who’s just like every other guy his...

The first season of the latest Walking Dead spinoff The Ones Who Live is concluding this weekend, but the latest profit participation lawsuit from zombie apocalypse creator Robert Kirkman, franchise executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and others is far from over.
With heavy emphasis on the $200 million settlement AMC suddenly made in 2021 to end ex-twd showrunner Frank Darabont and CAA’s nearly 10-year long lawsuit over profits, U.S. District Judge Fernando Aenlle-Rocha yesterday denied the outlet’s move to have Kirkman, Hurd, David Alpert, Charles Eglee and Glen Mazzara’s mega-millions case dismissed.
“It would be an illogical interpretation of the Mfn (most favored nations) provisions and contrary to the reasonable expectations of the parties in entering into the agreements if the court were to allow Defendants, as a matter of law, to provide Darabont and CAA with increased contingent compensation and a greater share of future gross receipts...

“The Walking Dead” debuted on AMC in 2010, instantly becoming a massive hit. For almost as long, the cable network has been fighting in court with the show’s creators over how much of the profits it has to share.
Much like the main show itself (which ended in 2022), the original lawsuit is over — but the spinoff litigation is still going strong.
On Monday, a federal judge denied AMC’s motion to throw out a suit brought by five of the show’s executive producers. The producers — Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Glen Mazzara and Charles Eglee — allege that they were improperly denied their profit participation from the original show and from “Fear the Walking Dead,” the first of six “Walking Dead” spinoffs.
The producers first sued in 2017, several years after “Walking Dead” creator Frank Darabont brought his own profits lawsuit. Darabont, who was fired following the show’s first season,...

Exclusive: Walking Dead maker Skybound Entertainment has struck what it is calling a “first-of-its-kind” deal with Prime Video over a dystopian thriller series from Scandinavia.
Amazon has taken rights in the Nordics for Vaka but Skybound retains worldwide distribution and controls the show’s “global commissioning structure.” This means Skybound can strike deals with buyers and sellers in different territories while the door remains open for Prime Video to acquire Vaka for other regions further down the line.
Set in Stockholm and starring Aliette Opheim and Jonas Karlsson, Vaka follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic. A disgraced minister must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover.
The show is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories and Sagafilm, the latter of which was acquired by Skybound and 5th Planet Games last year. The Icelandic...

What a time to be alive for superhero fans. We have '90s "X-Men" throwbacks to cater to the Millennial demographic, "Deadpool & Wolverine" is already shattering records and is about to become the obsession of every Ryan Reynolds-loving normie you know, and even "Madame Web" came through to deliver the early aughts superhero disaster you never knew you needed.
In the midst of it all is "Invincible," the Prime Video animated series that has quickly become a darker, edgier, and more violent alternative for fans who can't quite get their fix from Marvel or DC on the big screen. Now in its critically acclaimed second season, the show doubled down on the blood and gore in the continued adventures of Mark Grayson. The final half of “Invincible” is nearly here, and Prime Video has released the first trailer for the bloody finale to Season 2.
Season 2 Part 2, which consists of four episodes, begins streaming on Prime Video on March 14 and will release each episode weekly.
Part 1 released back in November and ended on several cliffhangers, with Invincible, aka Mark Grayson, bumping into his father Omni-Man, who tried to kill him in the Season 1 finale, on an alien planet. The tense reunion got even more awkward when Omni-Man revealed he had fathered a child with one of the insectoid alien members. Together, Invincible and Omni-Man barely defeated three Viltrumite attackers, who took Omni-Man back to their base and ordered Invincible to prepare Earth for takeover.
The Season 2 Part 2 trailer teases even more bloody, limb-snapping, intergalactic action. Invincible returns to space and must handle an invasion from the mind-controlling, parasitic aliens seen in the first season.

Last year, Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by David Alpert and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, teamed up with Universal Pictures not only to bring us the Dracula comedy Renfield, but also the four-issue comic book limited series Universal Monsters: Dracula. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that there’s another Universal Monsters comic book series coming out of this Skybound and Universal partnership: Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! Like the Dracula series, the Creature from the Black Lagoon series will consist of four issues, but while the Dracula comic was an adaptation of the classic Universal film, this Creature from the Black Lagoon series tells “a brand-new story featuring beloved Gill-Man.”

Los Angeles, July 22 (Ians) The popular American animated superhero series ‘Invincible’ has just released the teaser trailer for its upcoming Season 2. The teaser takes place in the aftermath of Invincible’s brutal confrontation with his father, Omni-Man in the finale of Season 1.
It’s mostly just a reel to hype up the massive star-studded voice cast, without much in the way of actual footage leaving things pretty obscure.
Based on the Robert Kirkman graphic novels of the same name, the series revolves around teenager Mark Grayson as he develops superpowers akin to his father, the world’s most powerful hero Omni-Man, only to eventually learn of a dark secret behind his father’s past while dealing with his own powers. After all, ‘With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility’, it may be an overused line in Spiderman, but is applicable for all supers and even in real life.

With Lennie James bowing out of Fear the Walking Dead, it seems the series is being handed back to many of its original stars.
AMC went public with the official trailer for the back half of Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 on Friday during a Twd universe San Diego Comic-Con panel.
"Now that Shrike (Maya Eshet) and her influence are gone, Madison (Kim Dickens) sets sights on transforming Padre into the safe haven the old Stadium was meant to be," the logline teases.
"But in doing so the island becomes a target as well as a beacon as word of Madison and this land of resources spreads, attracting unwanted attention that puts Padre back in peril and questions whether our heroes even deserve to save it."
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 6 wrapped with several significant developments that will shake up the dynamics as we head into these final episodes.

Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by David Alpert and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, recently teamed up with Universal Pictures for the Dracula comedy Renfield, which starred Nicolas Cage as the legendary bloodsucker and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey. Now Skybound and Universal are continuing to tell monster stories together with the four-issue comic book limited series Universal Monsters: Dracula – the first issue of which is scheduled to reach store shelves on October 25th.
Coming our way from the team of James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children) and Martin Simmonds (Swan Songs), Universal Monsters: Dracula will unfold over four suspenseful issues, with the first installment plunging readers into the eerie world of Dr. John Seward after he admits a seemingly delusional new patient to his asylum. Universal Pictures has set the streaming premiere date for its Chris McKay-directed horror comedy Renfield, starring Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage, announcing that the film will bow exclusively on Peacock on June 9th.
The film released in theaters on April 14th follows Renfield (Hoult), the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss: Dracula (Cage). For centuries, Renfield has slavishly served Dracula by procuring his master’s prey and doing his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, Renfield is ready to look for a new life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness, if only he can figure out how to end the toxic, co-dependent relationship…
Awkwafina and Shohreh Aghdashloo are among the others starring in the film scripted by Ryan Ridley, from a story by Robert Kirkman — one of a number of projects through which Uni has looked to leverage its movie monster library for a modern audience.

Universal’s Dracula comedy Renfield (read our review Here), starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, was a box office disaster, pulling in just $25 million worldwide… which is a shame, because the movie is a lot of fun. Maybe it will reach more of an audience when it receives a digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release on June 6th – and Universal is doing their best to make sure viewers will check it out, giving it a “Dracula Sucks Edition” release that will be packed with extras!
Based on a treatment written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield was directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty). In Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, R.M. Renfield was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions but actually is a servant of Dracula.

Universal’s Dracula comedy Renfield (read our review Here), starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, didn’t light up the box office when it reached theatres last weekend. So far it has only pulled in just over $12 million… and those are the worldwide numbers. There have been so many variations and film versions of Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula, from 1926’s Nosferatu to Tod Browning’s 1931 Dracula to Francis Coppola’s well-regarded take with Gary Oldman to even comedic satires like Love at First Bite with George Hamilton taking on the role. Now in Universal’s latest effort to rescue its horror classics and make them new again, we have the perfectly cast Nicolas Cage as the Prince of Darkness. Even he has done an offshoot before, in 1988’s Vampire’s Kiss. However this time around the film is not centered on Dracula himself, but rather his beleaguered servant, henchman, whatever you choose to call him, Renfield, and it is another Nicholas, as in Hoult, who has the title role this time in Renfield. Cage’s part, though meaty, is actually supporting as the emphasis turns to the long-suffering assistant who was tasked with bringing...

Nicolas Cage is all bloody fangs and long, dark cape as he plays a rage-filled Count Dracula in the final trailer for Renfield from director Chris McKay.
Universal’s modern-day horror comedy, set nowhere near Castle Dracula in Transylvania, focuses more on Cage in full-on Dracula mode, whereas an earlier trailer emphasized the dynamic between the vampire king and his henchman, the titular Renfield played by Nicholas Hoult.

At another point in the trailer, Renfield and Awkwafina, who plays a traffic cop, set about to take on Dracula in a blood-and-guts confrontation. During a previous Los Angeles Times interview, Cage said his take on Dracula drew from the performances of Bela Lugosi...

"Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help.
In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.

Two iconic Nic(h)olases are uniting on screen in less than a month. Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage are starring in “Renfield,” a comedic take on the Dracula mythos, and Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for the upcoming horror comedy.
Set to Radiohead’s early ’90s grunge hit “Creep,” a classic anthem for social rejects, the trailer begins in the time of Bran Stoker’s original “Dracula” novel, recounting Renfield’s (Hoult) first encounter with the devious Count (Cage). It then flash-forwards a hundred years later, with the familiar now the hapless lackey of the vampire, forced to find new humans to feed him and quench his thirst for blood.
But all that changes when Renfield saves a New Orleans bar from a shooting, and meets traffic cop Rebecca, who he quickly falls head-over-heels for. When he confesses his unusual occupation to his new love interest, she...

In this film, Renfield has been serving the bloodsucker for centuries, and now he has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on...

Last month, AMC announced that the eighth season of Fear the Walking Dead, which is set to begin airing on May 14th, will be the final season. Now cinematographer David Morrison has taken to Instagram to mark the fact that filming is underway on the series finale. Morrison said, “Been looking forward to this for a while. Years in the making. Let’s do this!” The series finale is being directed by Michael E. Satrazemis, a franchise regular who has directed seventeen episodes of The Walking Dead, twenty episodes of Fear the Walking Dead, and three episodes of Tales of the Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead wrapped up its eleven season run on AMC last year, so it seems fitting that Fear the Walking Dead, its first companion series, is following its example and wrapping up as well. Especially since there are a bunch of new spin-offs to look forward...
