Earlier today, we shared a quote from The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day writer/director James Cameron where he expressed regret about some of the things he brought to the screen in those movies. Now, we have some positive news to share regarding the Terminator franchise: SuperHeroHype reports that the Terminator comic book license has been acquired by Dynamite Entertainment.
There have been a lot of Terminator comic books published over the decades. Marvel Comics brought us some Terminator 2 comic books back in 1991, with Malibu Comics bringing us some more T2 comics a few years later. Beckett Comics published some Terminator 3 books, Now Comics published some The Terminator books. Dark Horse Comics published a ton of Terminator-related books over the course of several years, including mini-series where the Terminator universe crossed over with the likes of RoboCop, Superman, Aliens, and Predators. A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, she did talk about the making of the film (and the metal bikini she had to wear in it) during an interview with Collider.
Lutz said she had a great experience working on Red Sonja, getting the chance to do stunts and horseback riding, to work with Bassett. She added, “What I think is different from what we know...

In the ever-expanding realm of comics, Dynamite Entertainment is setting the stage for a fresh narrative. They’re collaborating with Arancia Studio to release a limited series titled ‘Overruled.’ It’s a thrilling dive into what happens post-superhero battles. Think about the aftermath of a mighty clash where the villain is defeated. Who takes responsibility for the damages? What if someone gets hurt? ‘Overruled’ unravels these intriguing queries.
Set in a world post ‘the Event,’ which gifted superpowers to a select few, we’re thrust into a society grappling with the implications of these newfound abilities. Only one in every million individuals possesses these powers, creating an unprecedented scenario for the legal system. The Madsen Act mandates that these superpowered individuals register their abilities. However, every case involving them is a unique challenge. And leading the charge in this new legal frontier is Manhattan’s top firm, Peters, Salazar & Abernathy,...

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production last year with director M.J. Today The Hollywood Reporter posted an interesting article about how Red Sonja was able to escape from development hell… and it basically boils down to a director’s enthusiasm for the material and a producer’s desperation to get the movie made.
The 50-something Bassett says she has been borderline obsessed with Red Sonja since her childhood, and “I cursed every time they announced someone else (as director). I kept telling them, ‘When you change again, let me know.’” And they did let her know when Soloway...

Near the end of August, it was announced that the long-awaited Red Sonja reboot was filming with M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directing and Matilda Lutz (Revenge) taking on the lead role. In early September, we heard that Oliver Trevena (The Rising Hawk) had joined Lutz in the cast – and Trevena’s character was the only one, other than Red Sonja herself, we ever got a description of. The actor had been cast as Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”. Unfortunately Deadline reports that Trevena has since had to drop out of Red Sonja due to scheduling issues. They also report that Rhona Mitra of Doomsday and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is in the cast, but no details about her character have been revealed.

“Red Sonja” has found its star.
Hannah John-Kamen, best known as the villain Ghost in “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” will wield the sword of the comic book fantasy hero in Millennium Films’ long-gestating feature adaptation. Joey Soloway (“Transparent”) is directing the film, from a script by Soloway and Tasha Huo (a writer on Netflix’s upcoming “Tomb Raider” TV series).
“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she is Red Sonja,” Soloway said in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
Created in the early 1970s by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel’s “Conan the Barbarian” comics, Red Sonja quickly became popular enough for her own spinoff series. That is certainly due in part to the character’s formidable fighting skills and forthright personality,...

Bruce Campbell’s movie characters Ash Williams and Elvis Presley will come face to face in a awesomely crazy new crossover comic book series called Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep!
I love that comics will have fun telling wild crossover stories like this, but it also makes me sad that no one will ever try to bring it to life in movie form.
In Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep, “Ash embarks on a soul-searching road trip to Texas on a hunch that Elvis Presley may still be alive and kicking (and supposedly vanquished a mummy)! What follows is a series of universe-spanning events that involve an Elvis jumpsuit with special time-travel abilities, a trip to 70’s Vegas, plus the reveal of an evil new Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon Ho-Tep.”
This just seems like a perfect crossover, and after reading that synopsis it makes so much sense! Makes me...

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that they are relaunching their Army of Darkness comic book series. Now titled Ash and the Army of Darkness, the new series will be written by Steve Niles:
“Dynamite is proud to announce that their flagship comic book title, Army of Darkness, will receive a complete overhaul and a new ongoing series as imagined by Steve Niles, acclaimed author of 30 Days of Night and Batman: Gotham County Line. A horror/action series with dark comedic overtones, the newly-titled Ash and the Army of Darkness continues the time-traveling, demon-fighting adventures of Ash Williams, the smart-mouthed hero of the 1992 cult-favorite film of the same name.
“What I’m doing with Ash and the Army of Darkness is a complete reboot,” says Niles. “We start and the last frame of the film and then go right to the next. It’s a wild ride and I think fans...
