Expectations can run high whenever a buzzworthy filmmaker makes the leap from indie to mainstream. And Radio Silence — Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Chad Villella and former member Justin Martinez — certainly had a lot to live up to after V/H/S. This production collective’s rousing contribution to the 2012 anthology film not only impressed audiences and critics, the same segment also caught the attention of 20th Century. This led to the studio recruiting the rising talent for a hush-hush found-footage project later titled Devil’s Due.
However, as soon as Radio Silence’s anticipated first film was released into the wild, the reactions were mostly negative. Devil’s Due was dismissed as a Rosemary’s Baby rehash but dressed in different clothes; almost all initial reviews were sure to make — as well as dwell on — that comparison. Of course, significant changes were made to Lindsay Devlin’s pre-existing script; directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett...

After being released to theaters earlier this year, we’ll see a Devil’s Due Blu-ray and DVD release from Fox Home Entertainment in April. Unlike many of the bare bones horror releases we see, this one actually has quite a few special features and we’ve included the entire list below.
“After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.”
Devil’s Due was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, written by Lindsay Devlin, and stars Allison Miller and Zach Gilford. According to Blu-ray.com, Fox will release the movie to Blu-ray and DVD on April 29th.

As usual: what was once the domain of indie filmmakers with more creativity than cash has become dominated by the major distributors. We're talking about "found footage horror," a storytelling gimmick that was resurrected by The Blair Witch Project several years ago, and has since become a sort of "playground" for indie filmmakers all over the world. (Check out [Rec] or Troll Hunter to see what I mean.) But as soon as Paramount hit the super jackpot with their initial Paranormal Activity acquisition, the writing was on the wall: these movies are super cheap to make and even when they bomb they make good money. (Cue a laundry list of movies like Apollo 18, The Devil Inside, and four Paranormal Activity sequels - so far.)
But there is a silver lining to all this: sometimes a "big studio" wants to make a "small horror movie" and they actually do it by hiring the right people.

One of the highlights of 2012's horror anthology "V/H/S" was a segment called "10/31/98." It was the final section in the film, and it played like gangbusters -- imagining an R-rated version of Disneyland's The Haunted Mansion, with all the effects turned up to 11. This section was the work of a filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence, a team of four very talented dudes (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Chad Villella, and Justin Martinez), singularly dedicated to scaring you silly. This weekend, their first feature-length film, the demonic found-footage romp "Devil's Due," impregnates theaters nationwide. And we've got an excusive clip designed to make your skin crawl.
The half-minute-long clip doesn't give much in the way of context, but it is pretty scary; thirty-eight seconds of night vision-y creeping, punctuated by a woman screaming very loudly at the camera. It's like the final sequence of "Zero Dark Thirty" punctuated by...

Following an amusing series of YouTube pranks-gone-wrong clips and their exhaustingly bonkers contribution to the first V/H/S, horror collective Radio Silence have finally completed their first solo feature. Devil's Due is both the title and the plot, and nothing can prepare you for the arrival... of this trailer. As you'll have just seen, the film looks to continue the Radio Silence trademark of found footage mixed with surprisingly big-ish FX. Beginning with a wedding, we then have the honeymoon and, rather soon afterwards, the pregnancy announcement. Must have gone well. Cue deep joy, but also our couple's (Allison Miller and Zach Gilford) house being watched by raincoated loons, symbols scrawled by members of an ancient cult of religious dissenters, super-strength, undulating stomach and violent telekinesis. The title, obviously enough, has a double meaning: the devil is quite literally due, and will take what's his.Radio Silence are Matt Bettenelli-Olpin,...

Special make-up prosthetics and splatter genius Paul Hyett makes his directorial debut with a harrowing exploration into tense claustrophobia, hard-hitting action and rollercoaster suspense.
