After the $1.4 billion success of Barbie, Mattel Films is putting another one of its beloved doll lines on the development track.
Paramount Pictures and Maze Runner and Twilight outfit Temple Hill are developing a feature project based on the American Girl dolls, with Lindsey Anderson Beer, who recently worked with Paramount on Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, is set to write and produce the project.
Talks between Mattel, Paramount, and Temple Hill began earlier this year.
The American Girl doll line started in the late ’80s, and features dolls with historically accurate backgrounds, the idea being they represent different eras of American history. The line included supplementary books about the dolls’ lives. The first three dolls in the line — Molly, Samantha, and Kirsten — represented the World War II era, turn-of-the-century America, and 19th century farmland, respectively.
Said Beer, “Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls. I had Kirsten, and she had Molly.

The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. In Prime Video’s new romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know, actor and filmmaker Dave Franco directs his leading lady — wife Alison Brie — through several nude scenes, including a full-frontal streaking sprint across a golf course alongside co-star Kiersey Clemons. Turns out the inspiration for the scene was none other than Brie herself, who co-wrote the script with her husband.

Just how recent are we talking? “She did it in the hotel right before we got here,” Franco admitted with a laugh. “She went up and down the hallway, and that’s a true story!” (He wasn’t lying,...

“Community” stars Alison Brie and Danny Pudi, who recently reunited for rom-com “Somebody I Used to Know,” are ready to get started on the sitcom’s much-anticipated film extension.
At the “Somebody I Used to Know” premiere on Wednesday, Brie told Variety she hopes the film shoots this year. “I’m clearing that schedule,” Brie said. Pudi agreed, saying “it looks likely this year. Right now, it’s just the timing.”
Brie and her husband, Dave Franco, co-wrote “Somebody I Used to Know” over the Covid lockdown. Following Franco’s directorial debut in 2020 with “The Rental,” he directed the new film, in which Brie stars opposite “Top Gun: Maverick’s” Jay Ellis.
After TV producer Ally (Brie) faces a professional setback, she runs back to her hometown and spends a whirlwind evening with her first love Sean (Ellis). That is until she learns Sean is getting married — that same weekend.

Paramount’s Parker Finn-directed horror pic Smile has laughed all the way past the 200M mark worldwide. After six weeks in release – and with scary strong holds – the split through Sunday is 99.1M domestic and 103.8M from the international box office for a global cume of 202.9M.
This original movie has positively beamed with only slight drops (and in some cases increases) throughout its run, while carving out a niche and navigating its own path amidst varied competition. It initially released in late September and rose a wild 32 in its sophomore frame internationally while boasting the second-best hold ever (-22) for an R-rated horror movie domestically in the second weekend.
This weekend internationally, it added 5.1M from 62 overseas markets for a 35 dip. That’s post-Halloween and with other horror movies in play.

Paramount’s Parker Finn-directed horror pic Smile has laughed its way across the 100M mark globally. And it did so in under two weeks of release. Through Tuesday, the gross is 102.3M worldwide, made up of 55.5M domestic and 46.8M from the international box office.
From Paramount Players and Temple Hill, the movie has seen some scary holds. Significantly, the overseas sophomore frame (with actuals included) was 32 above opening weekend. As we noted on Sunday, when we saw it easily hitting 100M, that is just wild – a hold of that sort is simply shocking. Word of mouth is playing its part as well as savvy timing and marketing on the movie that stars Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey with Kal Penn and Rob Morgan.

Victor (Michael Cimino) just wants to start over — just as the end is near.
The third and final season of “Love, Victor” premieres June 15 on Hulu and, this time, also on Disney+ as the streamer expands its older-skewing offerings. Season 2 left off with Victor’s love triangle heating up between his first love Benji (George Sear) and new student Rahim (Anthony Kevyan), who recently came out to his Muslim family after receiving advice from Victor.
As graduation looms and Victor tries to determine who he wants to (re)start a relationship with, the high school senior hopes to just “go back to that perfect moment” of falling in love for the first time.
“A lot of the time, the scariest things are also the most important, like admitting who you love or who you are,” Victor says in the trailer.
The eight-episode final season is based on the “Love, Simon...

“Love, Victor” is being added to Disney+.
The upcoming third season of the teen coming-of-age drama, will be available on Disney+ and Hulu beginning June 15, along with Seasons 1 and 2, a source with knowledge of the move confirmed to TheWrap.
“Love, Victor” was originally developed for Disney+ but was moved to Hulu after Disney worried that some of the themes explored in the show, such as alcohol use and teen sexuality, might not belong on the family friendly streamer. It was the second project to be moved to Hulu for similar reasons, following the Zoe Kravitz-led “High Fidelity” reimagining, which was canceled after one season.
The series is set in the same world as the film “Love, Simon” (which is based on the novel “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli). It stars Michael Cimino as Victor Salazar, a teen from a half Puerto Rican, half Colombian-American family, trying...

“Love, Victor” is headed to Disney+, after all.
The coming-of-age series, based on the queer teen romantic drama “Love, Simon,” was originally developed for the streamer, but was pushed to Hulu after executives worried that certain issues on the show, including teen sexuality and alcohol use, weren’t a right fit for Disney+.
Now, the third and final season, as well as Seasons 1 and 2, will be available on Disney+ as well as on Hulu beginning on June 15.
“We are proud of ‘Love, Victor’ and are excited to bring it to the widest possible audience on June 15 by making the full series available on both Disney+ and Hulu to celebrate the final season and Lgbtqia+ Pride Month,” Hulu president Joe Earley said in a statement on Tuesday. “In addition to highlighting this groundbreaking series, this will give subscribers a chance to sample more content that is available across our streaming services...
