Watch out Destiny 2 cheaters, your end is near! The developers of the game, Bungie, have just made gaming history with results that could change the industry forever.
Studios suing other companies that create cheat software is a tale as old as time, but when the defendant filed a countersuit, things got real. In an even crazier move, it looks like the etaliation blew up in the defendant’s faces, and Bungie have set the precedent that should have other cheat software companies shaking in their boots.
Destiny 2 Developers Win Oer Jury in Lawsuit Against Aimjunkies Destiny 2 cheaters should start getting used to playing without cheats.
If you look up the term “Bungie sues,” on any platform, you’ll come across a ton of unique results. The studio is not new to involving legal and aide and pushing those who cross it.
Sure, some of those cases were won simply because...

Ever since its release way back in 2017, Fortnite has emerged as arguably the biggest and most crucial Battle-Royale game that has come out thus far. The Epic Games offering has managed to maintain its growth over the years, boasting a stellar 500 million users as of 2024.
While the game in itself was initially released as Fortnite: Save the World, it was Epic Games’ former chief creative officer, Donald Mustard, who was effectively the brainchild behind the franchise. Mustard left his role in September 2023, but his stellar ideas allowed Fortnite to develop into a franchise that has, to date, generated $26 billion for Epic Games.
Fortnite previously existed solely as Save the World. | Epic Games
As it turns out, Mustard first came up with the design document for the landmark project in the back of an Uber, which he was sharing with three other top executives from Epic Games.

Helldivers 2 is right now rocking the charts. After several server backlashes, the game is well and truly living up way its expectations. Amidst all of these, Xbox fans are totally exempted from the fun, as this cooperative third-person shooter is only available on PlayStation 5 and Windows. So, is there any chance that Xbox users will ever land on the battlefield of this game?
As things stand, this might well become a reality. After the comment of Xbox boss Phil Spencer on games going cross-platform, fans of Microsoft’s console company are seeing some hopes regarding the game coming to their favorite platform. What’s the whole story, then? Let’s figure it out.
Is Helldivers 2 Coming to Xbox?
Helldivers 2 is only available on PlayStation 5 and Steam.
In the historic podcast held in February, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, announced that a lot of Xbox first-party titles will be going cross-platform.

Helldivers 2 has quickly gone beyond just being a multiplayer game with co-op mechanics. It has become something that every gamer out there wants to try their hands on at least once. And from the looks of its player base, it sure seems like many of them are indeed getting what they want, as it’s available on both the PlayStation 5 and PC. Another thing that’s making this game much more popular is its cross-play feature, which allows PC and PS5 players to team up.
With an ever-changing world, incredibly accessible gameplay mechanics, and a literal living game master at the helm, it looks like this game will never end. And with this game’s prolonged lifestyle, it looks like its player base will continue to increase, but fans of one platform are not getting a chance at this game at all.

Despite failures with recent titles, the recent trend in live-service games does not look like it’s slowing down anytime soon. Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Avengers failed miserably as a live title but then sprung Helldivers 2 out of nowhere to achieve the unexpected success that surprised every other studio.
On the flipside, though, the success of Helldivers 2 has now reopened the doors to more live projects, just when studios seemed to shy away from them. Despite past failed projects, WB Games is now recruiting for a role to assist Monolith Productions (MP).

Nintendo is suing the creator of a Nintendo Switch emulator, and claims in its lawsuit that Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom was pirated over a million times.
Much like Disney, Nintendo has its cute, fluffy side, but also a harder, litigious edge capable of financially ruining those who get on the wrong side of it.
Nintendo’s latest lawsuit is against the creator of Yuzu, a piece of software that emulates the Switch. The suit came to light thanks to journalist Stephen Totilo (via Gamespot), who shared some court documents related to the case on Twitter/X.
The documents state that the case is against Tropic Haze LLC, the company that developed Yuzu, and argues that the firm knowingly facilitates “piracy at a colossal scale.”
A preliminary statement written by Nintendo’s lawyers reads, “Yuzu’s website acknowledges that the Nintendo Switch’s decryption keys are required to decrypt games...

Despite acquiring Activision Blizzard last year, Xbox has yet to add any of the publisher’s titles to its Game Pass subscription service. That will of course change very soon when Diablo IV hits the service on March 28. But what about Activision Blizzard’s biggest Aaa franchise?
Xbox has yet to announce when first-person shooter behemoth Call of Duty will arrive on Game Pass despite the fact that there’s a new installment in the series set to be released later this year. Most importantly, will Call of Duty 2024, which is rumored to be set during the Gulf War, get a day one release on the service?

All hell broke loose earlier this month when The Verge broke the story that Xbox was preparing to re-release first-party exclusives on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Among the games rumored to go third-party were last year’s biggest Xbox exclusive, Bethesda’s Starfield, and upcoming big-budget action-adventure title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. There were even rumors that Gears of War, a long-running franchise synonymous with the Xbox brand, would make the jump to the PS5.
This of course sent some in the Xbox community into a panicked frenzy, including a group of Xbox influencers who announced they were quitting the platform altogether and posting pictures of them trading in their Series X. For less dramatic but still concerned fans of the platform, the worry was that by ending the exclusivity of its biggest titles on Xbox consoles, the company was effectively giving up on the Xbox Series...

For the past seven years, Netflix has been gradually releasing a collection of interactive, choose-your-own-story games within the Netflix Ui, known as Interactive Specials. According to a recent report, we may not see many more of these, if any, in the future.
Netflix began rolling out this feature in 2017, and to date, 28 of them have been released, with the majority targeting family-oriented audiences. IP such as Carmen Sandiego, The Boss Baby, Barbie, Johnny Test, and Jurassic World have all featured interactive specials, along with Netflix’s own array of shows receiving this treatment, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and We Lost Our Human.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was undoubtedly a major breakthrough for this technology, targeting adults and pushing the feature to its limits with numerous branching storylines. There was recently an error message that some Xbox players received that hinted at a possible Xbox virtual reality headset sometime in the near future. The error was initially spotted from IGN Italia and was then shared by popular Twitter user @Nibellion, who reported that “after plugging their new Xbox Wireless Headset into the console, the system asks them to update their VR headset.” Seeing this report led many to believe that Xbox was in development of their own virtual reality headset. This was then proven to not be the case from Xbox, who, according to Stephen Totilo, says “The

What need does Bethesda have for another post-apocalyptic first-person franchise? You'd think they might have that on lock. In any case, the rumor mill is buzzing that the Maryland-based developer has snagged the rights to make an original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, according to Ukranian blogger and marketing professional Sergey Galyonkin. Galyonkin was hip to the closure of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 studio earlier this year, so he might know what he's talking about this time around.
According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Bethesda is mum on the subject which could mean anything. Still, (and I might be confusing my whole understanding of their business integration) but wouldn't this be a purchase for parent company Zenimax? Seems that after two and a half years, my time as the editor of MTV Multiplayer has come to a close. It has been a privilege to attempt to give you some insight into the world of video games and technology. Whether you came to the blog every day, every week, or just whenever it popped up on Twitter, I hope you enjoyed your time here. I certainly have.
There have been several regular contributors throughout my time here at Multiplayer, and they have my utmost admiration. These are gentleman who deserve considerably more than a mention in a farewell blog post but, for now, this will have to do: Jason Cipriano, Matt Clark, Brian Warmoth, Brad Nicholson, Nick Akerman, and Adam Rosenberg.
I'd also like to thank Stephen Totilo, Tracey John and Patrick Klepek for building such an incredible audience. It was a true honor and a monumental task to fill those shoes.

Valve worked up the first-person shooter crowd with the announcement of "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" a couple weeks ago, but it amounted to little more than an acknowledgement of the project's existence. Well, Pax Prime is set to kick off today, and with it, fans will have their first chance to check out the next installment in the iconic series for themselves. Thankfully, for those of us who lack the fortitude to withstand the stank of the convention halls, Valve has just released an official trailer.
Check it out right after the jump.
Somewhat predictably, the video goes through the history of the "Counter-Strike" franchise, welling up feelings of nostalgia in your insides that sort of say, "you're buying this, sucker." Honestly, if you're a "Counter-Strike" fan, this game is a no brainer, but I can't say the new trailer really knocked me for a loop. Sure, I'm excited when I...

The year's not over yet. That means that there's still time for one more nominee in the 2010 Controversial Game Awards and Kotaku finds a game that fills that slot. Developed of the engine of 1992 classic "Wolfenstein 3D," "Sonderkommando Revolt" fictionalizes the actual Auschwitz insurrection of October 1944 into interactive form. Players can shoot the game's Nazis in levels based on the real-world geography of Auschwitz. Kotaku's Michael McWhertor broke the story and, in a follow-up, quotes the lead developer as saying the dev team's only goal was "blast the Nazis fun."
In another post on the game, Stephen Totilo writes:
Freed from the laws of reality, revenge fantasy like that of Sonderkommando Revolt can be hard to distinguish from exploitation. The revenge fantasy portrays glee amid suffering. It encourages the nodding of heads "yes" during its recreation of the ugliest events in human history -- a nod that, yes, revenge is happening; a nod that,...

It's always news when a game gets cancelled. Corporately produced video games can be years in the making, with teams of a hundred people or more working on just the creative side. Moreover, any cancellation of a high-profile title represents not just the scuttling of man-hours and development dollars, but also a squandered opportunity to move thing forwards in terms of creativity or technology.

I wasn't able to travel to Washington D.C for the opening arguments in Schwarzengger v. Ema, but Stephen Totilo was. Kotaku's Deputy Editor has filed a report from the proceedings, where the nine justices of Scotus questioned lawyers on both sides about the kinds of restrictions and protections they would have applied to video games.
[California Attorney General Zackery] Morazzini's opening statement was almost immediately interrupted by Justice Antonin Scalia who pointed out that Grimm's fairy tales are very violent as well.
"So are you going to ban them too?" Scalia asked of the attorney general.
Scalia, one of the court's most conservative justices and most vocal in the questioning of the state today, repeatedly and often with humor questioned Morazznii about the California law and its effects on the first amendment.
"You are asking us to create a whole new prohibition... what's next after violence? Drinking? Movies that show drinking? Smoking?," asked Scalia in the hearing.

If there's one thing that separates PC games from console offerings, it's the level of flexibility that the platform offers to end users. Once you get a console game, the base code is locked and you can't really muck around and find out how a game works.
But, with willing game design studios peeling back the veil of their software, PC gamers have been able to explore how games simulate physics, lighting and artificial intelligence with modification tools. Some talented users have even made their own toolsets and the most famous of those is the Garry's Mod offering for Valve's Source Engine, which has powered several generations of their hit games.

You thought "Medal of Honor" had controversy with the Taliban? Pfffff. Kotaku's Stephen Totilo serves up a feature that illustrates that there's no controversy like indie game developer controversy.
The piece concerns one Jeremy Eden, a twentysomething upstart game designer who figured that he'd fell upon a money-making formula of game content:
Jeremy Eden believed this past summer that he had concocted the recipe for a hit. It would be, he and the rest of JForce games thought, their second big success.
This great new thing would be a cheap downloadable Xbox game, of sorts, that would satisfy the public's proven appetite for three things the public had already shown -- statistically -- it loved: Xbox avatars, zombies and massage.
The tale unfolds in a sometimes-ignored corner of the Xbox landscape, namely the console's Xbox Live Indie Games Channel. Aspiring developers can use Microsoft's Xna technology toolset to build games...

We'd been building up to it for a week, and finally the day arrived. The ultimate Pokemon battle took place yesterday afternoon, on the roof of Gawker's offices in downtown New York City. The battle pit me against Kotaku's Stephen Totilo in a battle of wits, might and poke-savvy. What happened on that fateful day will never be forgotten. Probably 'cause I'm about to write about it.
The Rules
As a reminder, Stephen and I challenged one another to train a Pokemon during Gdc week using just the PokeWalker (a device which allows you to level up Pokemon by tracking your real-world steps). Both Pokemon started as level 10 Totodiles, and at the end of the week we would challenge one another and see who is the superior poke-trainer.
The Tale of the Tape
After a week of training, I had taken 37,588 steps with my Totodile. Stephen, brimming with confidence, had only taken 29,066 steps.

"Flower," the game that reminded Guillermo De Toro of 'haiku poetry' struck a similar chord with Game Developer's Choice Awards judges in San Francisco. That Game Company took home a win in the "Best Downloadable" category this year for their effort on the PlayStation 3. Asked if they would have a game in the running for 2011, though, the creators didn't sound like they want to make any promises.
"2011? We are not going to have a game by 2011," That Game Company co-founder and creative director Jenova Chen told Kotaku. And nor would anyone want Chen to rush through his next release after seeing what his team accomplished this time around. Chen and his studio's other co-co-founder, president Kellee Santiago accepted their award graciously, but Chen put the accolade in perspective while discussing his own priorities.
"What I care about is actually people who played it and how they felt about it," he explained.

As I mentioned last week, Stephen Totilo and I will be battling for gaming supremacy using Pokemon trained by walking around Gdc (via the PokeWalker). While familiar with the franchise, Stephen isn't quite the Poke-Maniac one might imagine, so he's desperate for any edge he can get over me. After the Game Developers Choice Awards, he enlisted the help of some of the winners to see if they had any advice for the upcoming battle.

It would appear that the Penny Arcade guys, pictured above, were the most Poke-educated, and all they could suggest was Ev Training, which is, um, helpful?
In case you're wondering, the ultimate battle will take place tomorrow evening, with the results posted Wednesday morning. To make sure the stats are not skewed, neither competitors' Totodile has battled or taken a PokeWalk since returning from Gdc. They're just kicking back,...

This Sunday, Nintendo is launching brand new installments to the "Pokemon" franchise. "Pokemon: HeartGold" and "SoulSilver" are reduxes of two "Pokemon" games originally released for the Game Boy Color. The new versions add improved graphics and a larger variety catchable Pokemon, but the biggest difference is the inclusion of the PokeWalker, a small, plastic device that's able to connect to the DS game. It's that red and white doodad in the picture above.
The PokeWalker lets you transfer a single Pokemon over to it. Once transferred, you can carry the Walker around with you, and for every step you take, you'll earn one experience point for your chosen Pokemon.
And that's where I got the idea for the Gdc Pokemon Battle. Here are the basic rules:
1) Two players pick the same level 10 Pokemon. In this case, Totodile.
2) Beginning Tuesday morning, the players will train their Pokemon by walking from appointment...

So a box featuring the "Dragon Age: Origins" seal arrived today. Within it was a dram of something or other and a threatening note. So I did what any normal person would do. I drank the vial and went about my day. You can enjoy this experience in video form above.
Funny story, though. The box also had a review copy of the game, but I didn't actually realize this fact until the box was in the trash. Thankfully Libe Goad and Stephen Totilo were quick to inform me of its inclusion before the friendly neighborhood garbage person came 'round and disposed of it. In my defense it was under all the hay, in well-camouflaged wrapping paper, but it did make me feel like a bit of an idiot nonetheless.

In a recent trip to Microsoft's Washington campus, former-Multiplayer/current-Kotaku editor, Stephen Totilo, noticed signs plastered throughout the hallways, hyping the launch of the Avatar Marketplace on Xbox Live. Each ad was basically a quote from an article or a commenter talking about the Marketplace in some favorable way. I guess it's a good way to drum up corporate yee-haw spirit!
Although the ad incorrectly sources our non-existent forum, the above quote is actually from this Lunchtime Twitter Poll. Somehow I doubt that @gravitybomb had any thought that his or her nerd-ridden statements would welcome Microsoft employees as they lined up for chicken tartar. Congrats, @gravitybomb. You have officially become part of Microsoft's corporate machine, whether you like it or not!
