Responsible for all CNBC studio and remote production and production facilities (2 studios, 3 control rooms and insert stage at Ft. Lee headquarters; studios in Manhattan, Washington, and Los Angeles bureaus) while continuing to function as coordinating (lead) director. Hired, or had input on hiring, all vendors associated with all in-house and remote projects (production and grip trucks, crewing services, uplinks, fiber suppliers, sound stages, government agencies, set designers and fabricators, lighting designers, animation houses, composers, photographers, labs........) Involved in everything from Graphic design to Operations.
*hired, trained, and managed all directors. Hired and managed all technical directors, audio engineers, and chyron operators. Managed staff of 26 full-time associates plus varying number of freelancers.
*designed systems for daily production of 17-1/2 hours of programming (equipment recommendations, production and pre-production schedules, development of chyron automation, upstream and downstream layering of various graphic sources, scheduling/structuring of all technical manpower...)
*developed concept for CNBC's unique 360 degree news studio "environment." Also developed set techniques utilizing multi-sided flats, backgrounds on tracks, video projectors, pull-downs, masking flats, fly-aways, hydraulics and more to allow wide variety of looks in a limited space. Introduced use of jibs and hand-helds to studio scheme. Coordinated technical, editorial, and production priorities during design and construction of sets in all studios and bureaus. Responsible for blocking of all shows.
*designed choreography to accomplish set reconfiguration, manual and robotic camera placement, and change of lighting schemes between back-to-back shows (no two news shows shot in same set orientation back-to-back.)
Selected projects: *Director and location Operations Coordinator of RIVERA LIVE from Washington's Scripture Cathedral; series of "TALK BACK AMERICA" town hall meeting specials from Chicago, Washington, and New York; and for series of "MEET THE MEDIA" specials with Tim Russert from NBC's Manhattan studios and Atlantic Video studios in Washington (all above w/studio audience.) *Responsible for directing shows and procuring all production assets for various multi-camera, audience participation remotes from such non-broadcast locations as Faneuil Hall in Boston, Navy Pier in Chicago, Park West Theater in Chicago, and the Reading Train Shed in Philadelphia (among others.) *October, 1997 - developed and directed BUSINESS CENTER (designed to be CNBC's "signature" show.) *Mid 1995-February 1996 - Project manager for multi-million dollar studio renovation and network graphic redesign. Primarily responsible for producing and directing schedule of live OHIO STATE BASKETBALL games for regional network. Involved negotiation of rights fees; overall budgeting; network traffic coordination; all travel arrangements including charter airlines, hotels, and cars; hiring of production and uplink trucks; booking of satellite time; hiring of local crews; design and construction of sets; design and sourcing of signage for arenas. Designed all graphic elements including animated opens, font styles, page construction, and composition of scoreboards. Wrote all intro, billboard, promo and other announce copy. Highly successful (profitable) package.
