Grindhouse is one of the most influential box office failures of the 21st century. Despite grossing a paltry $25.4 million at the box office on a budget of around $60 million, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 love letter to exploitation cinema has managed to spawn four spin-off movies — Machete, Machete Kills, Hobo with a Shotgun, and now Thanksgiving— in addition to reintroducing a vintage aesthetic that has been mimicked by countless other throwback movies.
Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof each have their merits — the former plays like a satirical pastiche of nonstop action, while the latter is more indicative of genuine exploitation fare — but Grindhouse is more than just a double feature. It’s an experience, complete with faux aging to recreate the look of beat-up film prints along with vintage interstitials and retro-inspired trailers for nonexistent movies.

Inglourious Basterds was Quentin Tarantino's first slice of alternate history in which cinema takes revenge on the Nazis.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This feature contains major spoilers for Inglourious Basterds from the very start.
As a filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino is given to making splashy and subversive films. Right through his new film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he tends to show us the kind of genre movie he grew up watching before turning it upside down and seeing what comes out. Ten years after it was originally released, his Oscar-winning World War II movie Inglourious Basterds may still represent the greatest product of his filmmaking whims.
The marriage of his sensibilities and the historical arena of WW2 Europe rankled (and continues to rankle with) his critics, but his painstakingly developed men-on-a-mission movie blooms into a truly audacious series of vignettes, which...

[Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”]
Quentin Tarantino doesn’t hide the fact his movies exist in the same cinematic universe. The connections that run through the writer-director’s filmography can be big (John Travolta’s “Pulp Fiction” character is the brother of Michael Madsen’s “Reservoir Dogs” character) or subtle (the “Pulp Fiction” Big Kahuna fast food chain first popped up in “Dogs”), but they remain consistent. All of this is to say that there is a devoted fanbase of Tarantino’s that is on the hunt for easter eggs when a new film is released, and such will be the case with “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” this summer.
One of the best Tarantino Easter eggs in “Hollywood” references the director’s 2009 WWII movie “Inglourious Basterds,” which is fitting since these two films are the Tarantino efforts that star Brad Pitt in leading roles.

Quentin Tarantino is riding high on the solid box office, critical acclaim and, of course, controversy over his new gunslinging slavery epic Django Unchained, and now he's revealing details of the planned trilogy cap to Django and Inglourious Basterds, potentially called Killer Crow, that would incorporate characters from Basterds -- and surely court more controversy.
Pics: New Pics: Jamie & Leo Smolder in 'Django'
In a new interview with The Root, Tarantino explains, "My original idea for Inglourious Basterds way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. Very few films are perfect, in my eyes at least. Coen Brothers’ 2007 classic No Country For Old Men is a movie I constantly cite as being one where every single individual scene and performance would be impossible to improve upon in progressing the filmmaker’s intention within that genre. No Country, for example, is a film I have watched at length and found no flaws, nothing that dissatisfies me or that I think could be bettered. Stanley Kubrick’s early crime classic The Killing is another. But these are few and far between.
Of course that’s just my opinion and you guys might be able to come up with a list a mile long about what annoys you about either film and you are entitled to that (I’d love to see such a list however if you do feel that way). But 99.9% of every other movie I’ve seen,...

Lots of posters in the Twitter-Wood feed seemed to be shocked about one thing or another today, whether it was Michael Ian Black reacting to news of Natalie Portman's pregnancy or David Spade commenting on Amber Portwood's domestic battery charge.
Meanwhile, Paul Feig didn't seem shocked about his problems flying out of JFK yesterday so much as he was concerned with figuring out alternative means to get to London, Judd Apatow was afraid of how "Rabbit Hole" might make him feel, and Omar Doom likely frightened some people with the money he's been trying to use.

This was a banner year for Twitter-Wood Halloween costume photos. In fact, that's about all that anyone was posting in our feed last night, with Shaq showing up in drag, "Eclipse" actor BooBoo Stewart punching his mom and his co-star Jodelle Ferland getting suited up as Katniss Everdeen from Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" books.
There were all kinds of couples costumes in the feed, too. Eliza Dushku played Lois Lane for Rick Fox, who went as Superman; Seth Green let his inner Harry Potter geek shine, and Ice-t got a little mad. Check out links to all the TwitPic posts after the jump.

Subject: Samuel Leroy Jackson, 61-year old American actor
Date of Assessment: August 6, 2010
Positive Buzzwords: Bad motherfucker, fierce, furious
Negative Buzzwords: Pretentious, indiscriminate, "steepled fingers"
The Case: Now, here's a motherfucker for whom I can't possibly mention every career highlight and lowlight, so any attempt towards a comprehensively detailed assessment would appear futile and read more like a dryly-written filmography. So, since everyone's got an opinion of Samuel L. Jackson, this assessment shall likely read as more of a cursory overview that couldn't possibly hope to do justice to a prolific actor who's been tearing it up since the early 1970s. With that said, perhaps the comment section would do well to fill in the gaps as far as best and worst Samuel L. Jackson movies are concerned. Do understand, however, that it's difficult for me to think even remotely disrespectful thoughts about this motherfucker, despite the fact that, in just the few past years,...

I don't know how much weight you should necessarily give to James Urbaniak's commentary on Al and Tipper Gore's reported break-up, but the topic has been trending on Twitter this afternoon, and the "Venture Bros." actor claims to know who the former Vice President will be visiting soon.

The weather looked great in California over the weekend from where Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Anne Hathaway were standing. The "Kick-Ass" star caught a screening of his new film at the Playboy mansion, she made a trip to Coachella, and both ended up on Twitter in pictures to document their activities.
Elsewhere, the weather was not kind to Jon Favreau, or at least the ash cloud over Europe caused by a volcano in Iceland was not. An 'Eclipse' Easter Egg, The California Earthquake And Major League Baseball In Today's Twitter-Wood
Jodelle Ferland, who plays Bree Tanner in "Eclipse," loves making artwork. We already knew that. This weekend, instead of drawing Taylor Lautner, however, she was decorating an Easter egg with the spirit of "Twilight." Easter wasn't the only thing rocking Twitter-Wood over the weekend, unfortunately. Last night's "Lost" episode "Ab Aeterno" offered an extra helping of Nestor Carbonell action, and Rainn Wilson enjoyed the extra spotlight on Carbonell's character Richard Alpert. Matthew Perry, meanwhile, seemed more confused than anything and was more consumed by the night's look at Jacob.

One of the most-deserved awards given on Sunday night at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards was the Best Supporting Actor statue to Christoph Waltz, for his incredible performance as "Jew Hunter" Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's World War II fairy tale, "Inglourious Basterds." In another year, Tarantino could have walked away from the evening with more than just the one Oscar for Waltz. "Basterds" is easily one of the filmmaker's best efforts, and that's thanks in no small part to Waltz.
For whatever could have been, the Tarantino's colleagues and friends were plenty excited on Oscar night. They went out to celebrate after the show, as you can see in today's Daily TwitPic. After the jump you can see Tarantino and Waltz joined by Omar Doom, the Basterd with the best real-life name ever, and Zoe Bell, who starred in "Death Proof" (Tarantino's half of "Grindhouse").

The number of photo tweets coming out of the Oscars turned out to be relatively disappointing this year. Luckily, Omar Doom did me a solid today and shared a shared shot of the "Inglourious Basterds" crew with their deserving Best Supporting Actor winner Christoph Waltz.
Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, earthquake anxiety has been on actress Jamie Chung's mind. You have to wonder how many So-Cal residents have been pondering similar thoughts following this year's events in Haiti and Chile. Find out if you think her fears are well founded and check out Lindsay Lohan, which Chicago White Sox player Brody Stevens ran in to thanks to Mlb Spring Training and some innovative advice for the next time your ears don't pop on an airplane. It's all in Twitter-Wood for March 9th, 2010.

Remember back when we had "Twilight" faces showing up in the feed on a daily basis in Twitter-Wood? Well, they're all over the place doing things since "Eclipse" filmed and "New Moon" launched, and it's been a good two months since a TwitPic of Christian Serratos and Edi Gathegi showed up. But they reemerged today.
Lee Unkrich, meanwhile, has been a regular poster, showing off shots of the "Toy Story 3" cast as they've shown up to the studio to record. Yesterday, he got a visit from singer/songwriter Randy Newman, though, and he reports that a new song has been created -- presumably for the film. Make your own guesses and check out which "Hangover" actor is in a sling and which actor re-iterated that he's definitely returning for "Transformers 3" after the jump. It's all in Twitter-Wood for February 9, 2010.

Some days it's just too easy to select a Pic of the Day, and Brett Ratner posted a slow pitch this morning that was straight across the plate to Twitter-Wood. He may even make you wish that you had a magical leprechaun companion as well.
Meanwhile, it's been a long day since Oscar nominations for 2010 were announced, and I've got even more reactions that are retweeted below from Neil Gaiman, Eli Roth and Omar Doom. Check those out after the jump along with Snooki's response to rumors about nude photos of her being shopped around and a "Mad Men" actor who was none too thrilled to find out someone commandeered his iPod. Michael Fassbender, Christoph Waltz, Jacky Ido, B.J. Novak, Diane Kruger, Omar Doom, and Eli Roth are the Inglourious Basterds cast members pictured above. The group (plus Brad Pitt, Rod Taylor, Mike Myers, August Diehl, Til Schweiger, Melanie Laurent, Daniel Brühl, and others) won the SAG Award for best cast in a motion picture, beating competitors Nine, Precious, An Education, and The Hurt Locker. Roth, the group’s spokesperson, dedicated their award to director Quentin Tarantino (below). Christoph Waltz also won an individual SAG Award for best supporting actor. Diane Kruger was nominated in the best supporting actress category, but lost to Mo’Nique in Precious. Both Michael Fassbender and Waltz have been cast in David Cronenberg’s upcoming The Talking Cure, in which [...]...

Mo'Nique noted backstage that she's seen "Precious" three times and is "good" when it comes to seeing it again. "It's a hard movie to sit through and watch over and over again," she said of the drama for which she was named best supporting actress. "We left Mary Jones on the floor. When (director) Lee Daniels said that was a wrap, it was. What I did take away, from my prayer to the universe, was to never allow me to judge. You never know." And to celebrate, a humble Mo'Nique said she'd watch some TV and her husband would play "Madden."

The cast of Inglourious Basterds took home the Best Ensemble Cast at this evening's SAGs, and they were soon off for a pit stop in the press room. Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz, Bj Novak, Omar Doom, Jacky Ido and Eli Roth were there to talk about their latest honor, though their costar Brad Pitt skipped out on the event. They did, apparently, make sure to keep him in the loop. They said: Christoph on if they told Brad Pitt about the win: "We all did!" Bj on what Brad responded: "Lol, he said." Eli on how they'll celebrate tonight: "We were celebrating while we were shooting, celebrating at the table, and the celebration will continue tonight!" Diane on working with so many guys: "The best part about my role is that I really kick ass. I'm tougher than most guys really - well maybe not Christoph!" Eli on working with...

This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.

If you've seen Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," then you know (*spoiler alert*) that any captured Nazis the Basterds allow to live are scarred for life with a swastika carved into their foreheads (*end spoiler*). I'm not entirely sure what that has to do with this morning's Daily TwitPic, but I do find it ironic that it features one of the Basterds going under the knife himself.
Omar Doom, who plays the third Basterd charged with accompanying Bridget von Hammersmark to the premiere of "Our Nation's Pride" (Brad Pitt and Eli Roth being the other two), convinced someone to snap a picture of him at the dentist just as he was receiving his Novocaine injection. You can't blame the guy for having a cavity or two though... he did just return from fighting a war.

Roy Disney's death today was big news in Twitter-Wood, where a lot of folks have been affected by his work and commitment to animation over the course of their careers. It's certainly appropriate that "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich was among the first to post his condolences.
And speaking of animation, Danny DeVito made it onto the guest list for the "Avatar" premiere tonight, and took a picture of his excitable foot to prove it. His "Twins" co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger posted

The Bear Jew's entrance in "Inglourious Basterds" is pure badassery. Dressed in a sleeveless undershirt and with a baseball bat in one hand, this Jewish-American solider played by Eli Roth saunters up to a captured Nazi and takes a swing at his head like it's the bottom of the ninth and he's looking to hit one out of the park.
The scene comes early in the film, but its impact reverberates through the entire picture—and the picture's impact continues to reverberate months after its release. With an almost $40 million opening weekend and a $120 million domestic gross, "Basterds" became the biggest film of Quentin Tarantino's career and stands to be a major player this awards season. With the DVD hitting shelves on Tuesday (December 15), Roth called up MTV News to talk about celebrating the movie's financial success, inviting Tarantino over for Passover and another "Basterds" film that just might happen in the future.

If not everyone loves Inglourious Basterds, at least we all agree on one thing: it's pretty dense, and it probably needs more than one viewing to pick up all the little layers and jokes and nuances. MTV.com has assembled a list of five interesting factoids, that, even if they're not in the movie itself, are pretty revealing.
1. Possible sequel. As of now, Tarantino has pretty much filmed all of the crackpot projects he has ever announced over the years, with the exception of two Elmore Leonard novels (Freaky Deaky and Bandits) and his prequel The Vega Brothers, which would "reunite" Michael Madsen's Vic Vega (from Reservoir Dogs) and John Travolta's Vincent Vega (from Pulp Fiction). In reality, it doesn't look like any of those things is going to happen, but actor Omar Doom revealed that Tarantino has some "500 leftover pages" from Basterds, and could very well do...

Esquire talked about character and scalping in a series of interviews with various members of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. When it comes to revenge, the band of Jewish Nazi-hunters takes a page from the Apache. But this just isn't a skill that comes naturally. It takes practice, so of course Tarantino organized a contest. B.J. Novak, who plays Private First Class Smithson Utivitch, explains:
It all started when we were all having drinks at a bar in Berlin called Tarantino's, which, believe it or not, is actually a Quentin Tarantino — themed bar. Anyway, over drinks Quentin told us, "You guys are going to have scalping training tomorrow, and as motivation, I'm gonna give close-ups to the top three scalpers." I went home and stayed up late looking up "scalping" on Wikipedia, and the next day, I was one the best. I was the best, if I may say. Other...

Although the two years since “Death Proof” is quite short by his usual between-project timeframes, Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film might be his most comprehensive, well thought out storyline yet. So says Samm Levine and Omar Doom, two of the “Inglourious Basterds” actors in the World War II flick, which hits theaters on August 21.
“It’s a great movie,” Levine said of the Brad Pitt/Mike Myers/Eli Roth-led Nazi-hunting not-a-remake, which he estimated got “at least” a ten minute ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. “You really can’t say much more other than that.”
“It was like a roar of bravos and screaming,” Doom said of the same French crowd that crowned Tarantino's earlier hit “Pulp Fiction” as an instant classic.
Although the Cannes crowd loved "Basterds," the actors revealed that Tarantino is using their reaction to fuel his final release. As he has previously suggested, the...

For this two-part interview, Roth talked candidly to Fango about this WWII fairy tale, his new production Cotton, an epic sci-fi project, a remake of The Funhouse and his future plans at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where he was attending the Basterds world premiere.

Speaking from the Cannes Film Festival, Eli Roth revealed that he was very close to being burned alive while filming Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Bastards." He said that he and Omar Doom were supposed to do a stunt in which they would be engulfed in flames as Tarantino would hover high above them behind the camera in a flame-retardant suit. The actors were told that nothing would go wrong since the stunt was tried successfully twice before. So they were slathered with protective gel and crew members were ready to put out the flame in case it started spreading onto their bodies. When the cameras began rolling, the fire quickly went out of control with the temperature reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius causing the actors' faces and hands to burn. But since there could only be one take of the scene, nobody stopped the blaze until Tarantino got his shot. "If we'd been there another 10 seconds,...

Actors Eli Roth and Omar Doom escaped with their lives on the set of Quentin Tarantino's new war movie Inglourious Basterds, when a fire stunt went wrong and almost burned them alive.
The stars had to don flame-proof suits for one scene in which their characters are trapped in a blazing building, but the shoot came close to turning into a tragedy when the fire raged out of control.
The pair escaped with minor burns to their faces and hands, but Roth admits it could have been a lot worse.
He tells MTV.com, "If we'd been there another 10 seconds, they said the ceiling would have collapsed on us."
The movie, which also stars Brad Pitt, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France last week (ends22May09).

Eli Roth and Omar Doom were engulfed in flames, but they couldn't go anywhere. Quentin Tarantino hovered high above them behind the camera, on a crane, outfitted in a flame-retardant suit. The actors had been told they'd be Ok, that two tests had already been safely run. They were slathered in protective gel and crew members were poised to extinguish — or attempt to extinguish — the fire if it leapt onto their bodies. Yet the temperature reached 1,000 degrees Celsius and their faces and hands began to burn. The blaze had suddenly raged out of control and there was nothing to do but solider on. There could be only one take of the scene and there was no turning back on the German set of "Inglourious Basterds."
