Though it will be a while until you see new episodes of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot, the wait will be worth it, as you’re going to get more cameos from alums of the original CW series when the show returns — plus a continuation of the Thanksgiving episode tradition started by the teen drama’s predecessor.
“There’s no series regular from the original coming back. Maybe that’s not true — sorry. None of the core five or six kids are in the back half. But there are cameos from original cast members and there are references,” reboot creator Joshua Safran told TheWrap about the second half of the first season. “Even just as simple as Episode 7 is a Thanksgiving episode. And you know, Thanksgiving on ‘Gossip Girl,’ it’s a traditional event on our show and a traditional event in the world. And then, yeah, there are...

Yin Chang is reflecting on the differences in her character’s treatment on the original Gossip Girl and the new HBO Max incarnation, revealing that her character’s part was rewritten into a stereotype for the pilot after she read sides that had “more complexity and nuance” for her character Nelly Yuki.

Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) is out there quaking right now. The Aug. 5 episode of Gossip Girl featured the first Og star to return to the recently revived series. We're, of course, talking about Yin Chang returning to her role of Nelly Yuki. The new episode reacquaints us with Nelly at a Halloween party, where literal Blair, Chuck, Serena and Dan costumes appear. We don't know about you, but attending a party where kids are dressed like our high school peers sounds like a twisted circle of Hell to us. As fans of the original series well know, Nelly was once one of Blair's most loyal minions before turning on the Constance Billard Queen Bee by getting her expelled and...

If there’s one thing I know about Gen Z, it’s that those kids go crazy for Bette Midler, so it’s only fitting that the Gossip Girl reboot’s first Halloween episode took place at Midler’s annual charity costume party. It was an hour loaded with tricks and treats, including (gasp!) the first appearance by a cast member from the original CW series.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Thursday’s new episode of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl.”)
Upper East Siders who thought that last week’s intro of a pre-teen Milo Sparks was the best that HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” could do in the way of references to the Og series are going to have their tights knocked off by the quintet of cameos on Thursday’s episode.
That’s mainly because one of them is the actual return of fan-favorite character Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang), and the other four appearances come via incredibly meta fabrications of The CW series’ leading couples: Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) and Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley).
On the newly released Episode 5 of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl”, titled “Hope Sinks,” Chang makes a cameo as Nelly Yuki, the frenemy of Blair...

"I have a feeling this fall might be my last season," says Kristen Bell's voiceover in the "Gossip Girl" Season 6 premiere. We know, we know... very clever. But she's right -- it is the final Upper East Side bow. Zap2it got a sneak peek at the first two episodes, and they embody everything we love (and a few of the things we hate) about the CW's flagship series.
In the first episode, all our favorite characters are scattered. Blair (Leighton Meester) is running the Waldorf fashion empire from Paris, Chuck (Ed Westwick) is investigating his dad in the Middle East, Nate (Chace Crawford) is doing the whole running-a-newspaper-without-a-college-degree-thing, and Dan (Penn Badgley) and Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) are writing his dirty expose in Tuscany.
And none of them have even noticed that Serena (Blake Lively) is missing, and was last seen passed out and bleeding on the train. Once they figure it out,...

Poppy Lifton, played by Tamara Feldman, will return for Season 6 of Gossip Girl.
If you recall, the socialite was last seen attempting to con Serena and her family out of money through a Ponzi scheme alongside her equally manipulative boyfriend Gabriel, played by Armie Hammer.
It's unclear what exactly brings her back to the Upper East Side this fall, but according to EW, which reported Feldman's return, “Poppy shows up in a surprising context to tangle with a new target.”
After the surprising return of Bart (Robert John Burke) and Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) this spring, and recent photos of Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang) on set this summer, there's no telling who's next.
Who else would you like to see back for the 10-episode farewell that is Gossip Girl Season 6? Vanessa? Jenny? Carter? Eric? Share your thoughts on that subject with us in the comments below ...

"Gossip Girl" Season 6 doesn't begin until October, but the cast is already hard at work on filming the final season in NYC. With only ten episodes, the season is sure to be an action-packed ride -- and now we can reveal two familiar guest stars who will be returning to the series.
First of all, our favorite of Blair's high school frenemies, Nelly Yuki, will be back! Actress Yin Chang was caught on camera filming at Capitale on the Lower East Side. Nelly Yuki was always a bit of a thorn in Blair's side as they competed for the best grades at Constance, but now that the gang is out of high school, it's anyone's guess as to why she's back in the mix.
Additionally, EW reports that Poppy Lifton, who nearly conned the Van Der Woodsens out of a whole lot of money in a Ponzi scheme, will be back.

Chicago – If your ideal vision of prom is best represented by “Carrie,” then odds are Disney’s “Prom” is not for you. In fact, if you are a high schooler, were a high schooler or may become a high schooler, “Prom” is guaranteed to strike you as monumentally childish. It’s the sort of harmless dreck so mediocre and generic that it could’ve been made in any time period. In a sense, it’s timeless dreck.
See if this sounds familiar: a perky popular overachiever finds herself falling for the long-haired brooding loser with a motorcycle and a criminal record. “He’s a rude, arrogant menace!” she shouts early in the film, thus solidifying that she will undoubtedly end up in his arms at the final fade-out. Seriously, how many “Breakfast Club” retreads and Disneyfied teenage dramas does the human race need?

Prom is one of those films that comes along every once in a while with the general purpose of proving yet again that John Hughes was (not counting anything after 1990) a God, and moreover that the "era" spanning roughly 1986-1994 was perhaps the greatest time to grow up in all of history.
As a High School effort, focusing on a lot of angst, relationship woes, rebels, and a philosophic geek who can't get a date, you'd lean toward only the John Hughes reference, but the film features a star (Thomas McDonell) giving a circa-early-90s Johnny Depp impression, and it's best effort at song is a cover of a song by The Cranberries.
The upshot is that, while we need to create new material for those who aren't going to revisit "oldies," we're exceedingly aware that teen angst entertainment has been perfected, and the only move now is to recreate and redistribute it,...

Prom
Directed by:
Cast: Aimee Teagarden, Thomas McDonell, Danielle Campbell, DeVaughn Nixon, Nicholas Braun, Yin Chang
Running Time: 1 hr 47 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: August 30, 2011
Plot: A group of high schoolers experience different emotional ups and downs as they prepare for their school’s prom.
Who’S It For?: Having never been to prom before would help in appreciating the “magic” of this movie. Even college freshmen would be able to see through Prom, and witness the amount of fairy dust sprinkled around the real elements of this one night event.
Movie:
The insecure teenagers of Prom don’t burst out into song whenever they are overcome by their emotions, but they probably should. The only difference between the general structure of Prom and that of movies like Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, or even Aladdin, is that this film works with a whole assortment of characters, each of...

This is the Pure Movies review of Prom, by Suki Ferguson. Prom is directed by Joe Nussbaum and starring Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, DeVaughn Nixon, Danielle Campbell, Yin Chang, Jared Kusnitz, Nolan Sotillo, Cameron Monaghan and Kylie Bunbury. Back in the days of yore, when I was a pre-teen girl, I was supposed to be reading magazines like Mizz - wholesome, girlish publications about pastel-coloured hair clips and blue-eyed boyband members. In reality, my friends and I were reading Just17, which sometimes included raunchy advice about gauging your bra size and how to flirt with your extremely hypothetical date. Meanwhile, actual 17 year old girls were reading Cosmopolitan's sex technique tips, and putting them into practice. (Just who was actually reading Mizz, then? I have no idea.) My point is simply this: no tweenage girl wants to watch a film about being a tweenage girl. They know that sex will be...

Prom
Directed by: Joe Nussbaum
Cast: Aimee Teagarden, Thomas McDonell, DeVaughn Nixon, Danielle Campbell, Nicholas Braun, Yin Chang
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: April 29, 2011
Plot: A group of high schoolers experience different emotional ups and downs as they prepare for their school’s prom.
Who’S It For?: Having never been to prom before would help in appreciating the “magic” of this movie. Even college freshmen would be able to see through Prom, and witness the amount of fairy dust sprinkled around the real elements of this one night event.
Expectations: It’s hard to look past the word “Disney” when reading up about a movie called Prom, and equally difficult to restrain uncertainty about the film’s authenticity. How delusional would its visions of prom be? How terrible would the soundtrack be?
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:

Friday Night Lights. Aimee Teegarden easily holds up this engaging teen romance centering on those frantic weeks leading up to . Senior Prom! Leading lady Teegarden is an experienced actress for her age, as is most of the lead cast . Thomas McDonell, DeVaughn Nixon, Yin Chang, Danielle Campbell, Jared Kusnitz, etc. -- all seasoned young actors brought on board to give this sweet trifle body and edge. And they.re all great looking . check out McDonell, a cross between Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp, who incidentally is playing Depp.s younger self Young Barnabas Collins in the vampire outing Dark Shadows. –Grace (Edie McClurg), “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
Though we might recognize and relate to the particular type of high schoolers Grace refers to in her famous roll call, the categories of cliques and the terms to denote them have changed since 1986. For example, I don’t think the emo hipster was a prominent enough breed to warrant its own category back in Ferris’ day. Nor does “mathlete” show up in Grace’s inventory, but by the time Tina Fey brought us “Mean Girls,” it was in common use.
But simply redesignating the categories might be missing a bigger point about the difference between high school categories of then and now. The landscape has changed more significantly than that. Now it seems though the groups still exist,...

Chicago – There are many essential questions in life. What is my purpose? How do I find my place in the universe? Where did I put my mobile phone? But the most important of all, as Aimee Teegarden is about to experience, is who will I get to take me to “Prom.”
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Prom, a new film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, is old school. It’s not set in another time, it is set within a former teen movie framework. In the tradition of director John Hughes, Prom portrays high school as a character challenge, with all the highs, lows, heartaches and the strange hope that a transition of life has been achieved.
Nova (Aimee Teegarden) is little Miss Perfect. She’s class president, scholarship student and of course, head of the Prom Committee. Her world is turned upside down when the meticulous decorations for the ‘Starry Night’ theme are...

For those who are in high school, or maybe work at one, the release of Disney's sweet and wholesome "Prom" movie kicks off that heavily hyped season of dress shopping, date anxiety and general excitement that surrounds one of America's most storied traditions.
When MTV News caught up with the film's stars, we asked them to discuss the challenging task of asking someone to prom and what should be done in order to get a prospective date to say "yes."
"An elaborate way," Janelle Ortiz said. "I think it has to be an elaborate way, because you're going to remember prom for the rest of your life."
"It's got to be creative," Joe Adler added. "Throw some effort on it.

For every high schooler who spends weeks panicking over who they'll take to prom, or works up the courage to invite a long-standing crush, there's also the couple that's been together so long that prom is a guarantee-- just another step in their long, happy life together. In Disney's movie Prom, which opens this weekend, Mei Kwan and Justin Wexler are that couple; played by Yin Chang and Jared Kusnitz, they're seniors who are already looking ahead to attending the University of Michigan together, though what Justin doesn't yet know is that Mei has other plans for her future. Both Yin and Jared have years of acting experience behind them, unlike much of the Prom cast, and both have recently played high schoolers on television, Yin in a recurring role on Gossip Girl and Jared in a recent role on Secret Life of the American Teenager. When I talked to...

When it comes to high school movies, there tends to be sizable amounts of awkward romantic drama, non-stop malicious he-said-she-said gossip and practical prankster hijinks that culminate in full fervor at the penultimate teenage event: the prom.
So it makes perfect sense why Disney would cut right to the heart of things and make a movie called, well, "Prom."
The new flick unfolds the saga of several teenagers as they deal with the pressures of the upcoming dance: whether it be overachiever Nova (Aimee Teegarden) trying to transform tough rebel Jesse (Thomas McDonell) into the perfect date, or others dealing with tight romantic entanglements and brooding bullies, everyone has their own Prom-iscous story to tell.

The first act of Prom verges on insufferable – capped off by a quickfire montage of boys asking girls to the big dance in the most gimmicky ways possible, so rapidly presented that it may trigger Ptsd in anyone who had a bad prom experience. However, it does get better, especially as the film settles into itself and its large pool of characters. There’s no Love Actually tie-in tricks here - some of the characters in the film know each other and have connecting stories, some don’t. The link is that they all attend the same high school and are all having some sort of issue creating a positive prom experience.

Disney's Prom opens April 29. It stars Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, DeVaugh Nixon, Danielle Campbell, Yin Chang, Nolan Sotillo, and more. Joe Nussbaum directs a script from Katie Wech. Reviews, picture and the trailer are below. Let's start with Marshall Fine's review, in which he states that "girls need this kind of princess-y tale the way boys need adventure stories; it’s a rite of passage." Thank you, for another reminder of what's wrong with gender imbalances in the media and the messages we're sending to children. At least the stars have "sweet, unaffected chemistry," according to TimeOut's Keith Uhlich. With lighting like this, how could they not? But Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles already nailed the hate=love formula in 1999's Ten Things I Hate About ...
