The Just Cause director, Christofer Sundberg, believes the wounds inflicted on the gaming sector can be healed. We have been hearing about layoffs every now and then, which has affected the development of video games drastically.
Avalanche Studios Group co-founder suggests working together can help. Last year, we saw over ten thousand job cuts from industry giants like Bethesda Game Studios, Technologies, Ubisoft, and more. This year, Microsoft, Sony, and Take-Two entered this list, and the gaming industry layoffs are seemingly surpassing those of 2023.

Avalanche Studios developed Just Cause 2 alongside Square Enix.
If it wasn’t for the restructuring causing thousands of job cuts, fans would have been waiting for games that could’ve made waves in the entire gaming community. But the effects can be contained, and games like Spider-Man: The Great Web may still have a chance to...

If there’s one thing Rico Rodriguez from the Just Cause series is good at, it’s surviving. A fearless member of The Agency, Rico has been through harrowing firefights, car chases, and even ridden atop a warhead in an attempt to disarm the explosive.
But none of that would have been possible if the title itself didn’t manage to survive an event that has buried many titles even before launch. While the character is used to performing death-defying stunts, we now know that the title itself had to jump through several hoops to land on market shelves.
The Odds Were Stacked Against Just Cause 2 Fans may never have been able to cause chaos in Just Cause 2.
While it’s not ideal, some games tend to jump studios and publishers during their development cycle. This usually results in several changes being made to the game. Many times, the title...

In a surprising turn of events, the Just Cause franchise is reportedly getting a film adaptation, and whilst it may be one of the most obvious to adapt to the big screen, it’s been so quiet gaming-wise for the franchise, that many never expected it to happen.
Original franchise creator Christopher Sundberg weighed in on X, speaking to the irony of the film’s potential existence.
A Just Cause Film Has Been Talked About for Years
Just Cause is known for its bombastic action and visuals
Talk of a Just Cause film has been swirling for years, first cropping up around 2011. The long-running action franchise has seen four entries since 2006 and has remained quite popular over the years. 2015’s Just Cause 3 received positive reviews, while its 2018 sequel did not fair quite as well but was not received terribly.

Christofer Sundberg, who founded Avalanche Studios back in 2003, recently took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the Mad Max video game. In a candid tweet, Sundberg said that the game could have been significantly better if it had been allowed to follow its original creative vision.
He described the financial repercussions the team faced whenever they disagreed with any external demands from WB, which led to compromises that ultimately affected the game’s quality and overall vision.
These tweets were in response to George Miller’s original comment during the press tour of Furiosa, where he said that the original 2015 game didn’t quite meet his expectations.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is currently making roars, and it also features a blink-and-miss cameo of the original series’ protagonist. The franchise’s success is no stranger to entertainment enthusiasts, but Avalanche’s 2015 video game didn’t get as much love as the movies. The sales were a topic of debate as it was beaten by Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg still hasn’t gone over it yet, as he revealed people blamed them for bad sales. It was the United Kingdom’s second bestseller following the first week of its release and was the eighth-bestselling game in the United States in the first month.
The Phantom Pain Was Real, as Mad Max’s Sales Didn’t Live up to the Mark
It has a free-flowing combat system akin to the Batman: Arkham games.
Being a co-founder is as bad as it can be good.

During an interview with Gaming Bible, Furiosa director George Miller was asked about the possibility of a new Mad Max video game. Somewhat surprisingly, Miller not only referenced developer Avalanche Studios’ 2015 Mad Max video game but confessed that he was disappointed in that title.
“It wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be,” said Miller of the most recent Mad Max game. “We gave all of our material to a company to do it. But, you know, I’m one of those people who would rather not do something unless you can do it at the highest level or at least try to make it at a higher level.”
Well…ouch. So, what about the possibility of another Mad Max game somewhere down the (fury) road? Miller isn’t making any promises, but there is one person he’d love to see take a crack at the concept.

Nordisk Film, one of the oldest movie studios in the world, purchased Avalanche Studios in the single largest acquisition in the company’s 111-year history, the companies announced this week.
The deal, which has Nordisk purchasing the remaining shares of Avalanche for 89 million Euro, is part of Nordisk’s strategy of investing in successful Nordic game studios, according to a statement.
“We have been minority owners of Avalanche Studios for a year, and are already impressed by their results,” Mikkel Weider, managing director at Nordisk Film Games, said in a statement. “During its 15 years in business, Avalanche Studios has built a world-class team and created a unique company culture that perfectly matches our own values. It also has a unique foundational technology, exciting new titles in development and a strong IP in the ‘theHunter’ franchise.”
