Amazon is getting into the game show business — and bringing in Fox as a partner.
The tech giant’s Prime Video streaming platform has named Patton Oswalt as host of The 1% Club, an adaptation of a hit British quiz show. In a novel arrangement, Fox will air the show in a second window, eight days after episodes debut on Prime Video. It marks a rare occasion when a broadcast network has taken the second run of a streaming series that’s not part of its own corporate family (e.g., Disney+ and ABC).
The 1% Club comes from BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media, which produces the original version of the show for ITV in the U.K. (Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach created the format). The show will “test the nation’s intelligence, based on a scientific survey,” according to its logline. “It’s a chance...

NBC has renewed the Jane Lynch-hosted game show “Weakest Link” for a third season.
Season 3 will run for 20 episodes. Each episode sees eight contestants enter the studio as strangers and work together to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round. The contestants take turns to answer general knowledge questions to build chains of correct answers. Consecutive correct answers greatly increase the value of the chain, while incorrect answers break the chain and force the contestants to start over on the lowest rung with the smallest amount of money. At the end of each round, contestants vote to eliminate the fellow contestant they consider to be the “weakest link” in the chain. The series is based on a British format distributed by BBC Studios that has aired on BBC Two and BBC One, while also being produced in 46 other territories.

Andy Cohen is to front and executive produce a provocative new format for Peacock, in which singletons brave unfiltered feedback from their exes. The NBCUniversal streamer also confirmed that he is involved in a reboot of The Real Housewives Of Miami.
Announced as part of a slate of Peacock shows on Wednesday at TCA, Ex Rated is produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm and UK production company Mighty Productions.
The format builds on the growing trend of people sending ‘exit surveys’ to their previous partners by subjecting singletons to raw reviews from their former lovers, rating them on everything from their personality to their sexual prowess and relationship skills.
The no-holds-barred series is aimed at empowering singles with insight on how they can improve their romantic experiences. It will be filmed in LA, with Ryan O’Dowd executive producing for BBC Studios. Lynn Sutcliffe and Hugh Rycoft executive produce for Mighty Productions.

The Weakest Link reboot is returning to NBC for a second season.
The British import will begin production for its 13-episode sophomore run later this year with casting now opened.
It comes after NBC brought back the Jane Lynch-hosted series last year.
Production on the new season, set for 13 episodes, will begin later this year. The BBC format, which originally launched in the U.S. in 2001, was the second most-watched new broadcast alternative series of the fall and is averaging a 1.2 in 18-49 and 5.6 million viewers, including linear, digital and VOD.
The game show sees contestants answer general knowledge questions to bank prize money across multiple rounds. At the end of each round, the contestants vote out who they perceive to be the “Weakest Link” remaining. In each episode, eight contestants enter the studio as total strangers but must work together to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round.

The hit British import and international game show format Weakest Link is making a comeback with Jane Lynch as host and executive producer. NBC has greenlit 13 episodes of the rapid-fire quiz show, with production to begin later this year.
Co-produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm and Universal Television Alternative Studio, the new version of Weakest Link will deliver the fast-paced and quick-witted pillars of the original British format created by the BBC with a few modern twists, NBC says. The hybrid game show sees contestants answer general knowledge questions to bank prize money across multiple rounds. At the end of each round, the contestants vote out who they perceive to be the “Weakest Link” remaining.
“I’ve been a longtime fan of this game-changing quiz show since it first debuted,” said Lynch. “Each time the phrase ‘You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye.’ passes my lips, it will be with great reverence and delight.
