The American Cinematheque is proud to celebrate Warner Bros.’ 100th Anniversary with an exclusive 4K Restoration screening of The Fugitive. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the film’s original release in 1993. The digital restoration process has restored images, color corrected each frame, and graded the entire picture in High Dynamic Range color volume. The restoration work was done by WB MPI’s Senior Colorist, Jan Yarbrough, with direct involvement from the film’s director, Andrew Davis, and the film’s editor, Don Brochu, ensuring that the finished look is creatively accurate. In a video interview conducted during the promotion of this weekend's "Avatar" re-release, James Cameron confirmed he's done a "complete remaster" of "Aliens" for the upcoming "Alien Anthology" Blu-ray boxset and worked with the same colorist he used on "Avatar".
In comments that might cause controversy though, Cameron says he went in and "completely de-noised it, de-grained it, up-rezzed, color-corrected every frame". The film itself is famously heavy with grain because "it was shot on a high-speed negative that was a new negative that didn't pan out too well and got replaced the following year" says Cameron who adds that "We got rid of all the grain. It's sharper and clearer and more beautiful than it's ever looked. And we did that to the long version, to the 'director's cut'"
The worry is if the changes have a negative impact, much like the odd color timing on "French Connection...

Hollywoodnews.com: Certain filmmakers seems born for Blu-ray. Take Baz Luhrmann, for instance. The Aussie talent’s flair for vibrant visuals should go with the crisp, clear Blu-ray conversion like peanut butter goes with jelly.
We’ll find out for sure come Oct. 19, when two of Luhrmann’s groundbreaking films get the Blu-ray treatment from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
“William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the tragic leads, and Luhrmann’s stunning musical, “Moulin Rouge!,” will make their way to Blu-ray on extras-laden platters.
