While the oft acclaimed and always colorful Spanish filmmaker, Pedro Almodóvar, puts the finishing touches on his upcoming revenge drama The Skin That I Inhabit, word is already surfacing on his next project. The Playlist (via Screen Daily) reveals Almodovar is developing a biopic about 1960s Italian pop star, Mina.
The script for Mina will be adapted from a novel the singer’s lyricist, Paolo Limiti, penned, which unveils the tragic tale of Mina’s love affair with a married man that spawned a love-child and a scandal that destroyed her career in the conservative-leaning country.
For those familiar with Almodóvar’s work, Mina contains many of the visually daring auteur’s signature elements: a strong and sexually-charged heroine, melodrama galore, heartbreak, and a figure cast out because of society’s constrictive sexual mores. Expect vivid music, bold colors, and appearances from Almodóvar’s veteran actors to round out this vibrant biopic.
