After parodying his attempts to become an action-movie star in the Quibi/Roku short film series Die Hart (later compiled into a Amazon Prime feature), Kevin Hart goes for the gold in the genre and attempts to do the real thing in Lift, an absurdly ridiculous, over the top but still entertaining heist movie that strains credibility at every turn — but who cares because it’s got Hart.
The latest bloated Netflix star-driven action epic on the scale of Red Notice and The Gray Man, this one has our star as master art thief Cyrus Whitaker, whom we meet with his team trying to pull off one of their signature thefts at a Venice Italy auction house involving an Nft (just to keep this as contemporary as they come), leading to a wild boat chase all over the colorful canals but not ending well for the gang.

Kevin Hart could be on cloud nine if he can pull off a high-flying heist operation in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming comedy-thriller Lift.
Landing on the streaming service on Jan. 12, F. Gary Gray’s feature centers on Cyrus Whitaker (Hart), the leader of an international heist team who gets enlisted to steal $500 million in gold from a mid-air passenger plane before the fortune ends up in the wrong hands. Lift co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno and Sam Worthington.
The trailer shows Hart explaining the near-impossible task to his cohorts and warning that they’ll land in prison if they don’t succeed. “Half a billion in gold is on its way to a terrorist cell,” he says. “We gotta steal it mid-flight, 40,000 feet in the air.”

God’s Country will follow “a young woman who travels to Kentucky to meet her fiancé, subsequently uncovering something sinister beyond comprehension, as her American dream curdles into a nightmare of biblical proportions.”

HBO Max’s The Batman prequel series has found its showrunner.
The series, which is about Arkham Asylum, will be overseen by The Staircase creator Antonio Campos, who will serve as showrunner-executive producer and also will direct on the series, Deadline has confirmed.
Initially, the series, executive produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, was to center on the inner workings of the Gotham Police Department. Barton exited when the focus shifted to the Arkham Asylum storyline.
Terence Winter was initially involved in the first The Batman series, when it was initially announced in July 2020 with a series commitment. Then came Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton, who replaced Terence Winter.
Campos will now run the series with a new direction.
The Batman series comes from Reeves’ 6th & Idaho in association with Warner Bros. Television. Reeves, Barton and The Batman producer Dylan Clark are executive producers, alongside 6th & Idaho’s Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan.

[Editor’s Note: The following story contains spoilers for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.”]
The Caped Crusader prequel series just was put on pause.
“The Batman” writer-director Matt Reeves revealed during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast on March 7 that the HBO Max spin-off series, tentatively titled “Gotham City P.D.,” is now shelved indefinitely.
“One thing that we’re not doing that I was gonna do…So, there’s the Gotham police show, which, that one actually is put on hold. We’re not really doing that,” Reeves said.
Reeves first announced the spin-off during DC Fandome in July 2020, setting the series as a prequel to the events of “The Batman,” which featured Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in his second year as the superhero.
“The series was going to be kind of like ‘Prince of the City,’ where it was going to be year one because the movie is year two, and I wanted it to be the first appearance,” Reeves continued.

NBC’s “Ordinary Joe” and Fox’s “The Big Leap” are being dropped by their respective networks after airing only one season.

Hulu has released a first look for their sci-fi movie “Mother/Android,” starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Algee Smith. The new film, which debuts Friday, Dec. 17, marks the feature directorial debut of “Project Power” and “The Batman” screenwriter Mattson Tomlin.
Set in the near future, Moretz stars in the film as Georgia, who is days away from the arrival of her first child with boyfriend Sam (Smith). “Mother/Android” follows the couple through their treacherous journey of escape as their country is caught in an unexpected war with artificial intelligence. They must face “No Man’s Land” – a stronghold of the android uprising — in hopes of reaching safety before Georgia gives birth. “Mother/Android” also stars Raúl Castillo playing a character named Arthur.
Note the blue eyes in the below images, perhaps the signature look of the new machine overlords? Or just a near-future fashion statement, only time (and the eventual drop of the trailer will tell).

The multi-medium plans of Warner Bros. to complement upcoming Robert Pattinson-starring DC Extended Universe movie reboot The Batman with an HBO Max live-action television series has hit a slight snag with the exit of showrunner Terence Winter.
Creative differences have caused an irreparable rift between Winter—who was initially tapped as showrunner, writer and executive producer—and The Batman director Matt Reeves, who is onboard as an executive producer, according to THR. It would seem that the series Winter envisioned did not match what Reeves, his fellow producers and Warner had in mind. Thus, with the series designed to share some type of tonal and thematic synergy with the 2022-scheduled Dceu movie, the reported clash of visions with the movie team left Winter as the odd man out.

The reverberations of Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s stunning Quibi shutdown are being felt both in financial circles — where the $2 billion failure cements itself as a cautionary tale — and in Hollywood’s beleaguered creative community where many believe Quibi’s demise will make it harder for the next big idea to hook funding.
Post mortems are underway on both coasts, questioning everything — from the decision to launch a service geared to consuming content on the go a month after a global pandemic locked everyone at home, to perhaps the worst brand name since Tronc (the short-lived moniker for Tribune Publishing), to Quibi’s inability to connect with its target millennial set.

It looks like we won’t be finding out what happened after the crew finally landed on Mars. A month and a half after it premiered, Netflix has canceled “Away,” the science fiction drama led by Hilary Swank.
“Away” had very good ratings upon launch, according to Nielsen, debuting at No. 6 after a Sept. 4 premiere, and subsequently spent several weeks in the top 10 of streaming shows. But Netflix weighs viewing versus cost when making decisions about renewals or cancellations, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation, and focuses on full-season orders to any show it greenlights.
Another factor may be the potential cost of shooting a second season under pandemic protocols, something that has led to cancellations and reversed renewals for other series this year.
Executive produced by Jason Katims, “Away” was created by Andrew Hinderaker, who executive produces the series along with showrunner Jessica Goldberg, as well as Katims,...

In between Matt Reeves divulging details about his upcoming 2021 The Batman movie and the trailer drop during DC FanDome tonight, the filmmaker unloaded some intel about the HBO Max series connected to the pic, which he’s executive producing with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter.
We already knew that the series would be an examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, however, Reeves said the series is a prequel to his Batman Year Two movie, with the show set in Batman Year One when a “masked vigilante…starts to unsettle the city”. The series will zero in on the city’s corruption that “goes back many years,” said Reeves and is told from the Pov of a crooked cop.
“The story is actually a battle for his soul,” Reeves explained.
The series, which is also executive produced by The Batman’s Dylan Clark and Warner Bros Television, was first announced back in July.
