Is “SNL” new tonight? Yes. NBC’s late night sketch comedy series returns on Saturday night with host Maya Rudolph and musical guest Vampire Weekend. Rudolph was a regular cast member from 2000 to 2007, and this marks her third time as host following her stints in 2012 and 2021. The funnylady also took home a pair of guest star Emmys for “Saturday Night Live” in 2020 and 2021 for her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. In this week’s “SNL” promo video (watch above), Rudolph and Kenan Thompson do their best Dracula impressions in front of Vampire Weekend.
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. Kacey Musgraves, the esteemed Grammy-winning country singer, is celebrating her fifth studio album Deeper Wells with a tour by the same name, which commenced its journey on April 28 in Dublin, Ireland.
Hailing from the heartland of Texas and launching her career in Nashville in 2013, Musgraves made an indelible mark with her major-label debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, which garnered a Grammy Award for Best Country Album. What distinguishes Musgraves within the world of country music is her whimsical playfulness and tongue-in-cheek flamboyance.
When Musgraves burst onto the scene with her album Same Trailer, Different Park, she married a country tone with progressive lyrics, unafraid to delve into topics such as recreational drug use and casual encounters.
As Musgraves embarks on her Deeper Wells World Tour, she continues to redefine the boundaries of country music as an unapologetic trailblazer.

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter’s updating guide to season 49’s SNL hosts and musical guests.

I am not a scientist. I am an artist. I cannot begin to spout scientific data on what we will become once artificial intelligence outsmarts us. I can read the predictions of how our workforce will be replaced by AI. I can read the warnings from Stephen Hawking that go back as far as 1996 that it will not be climate change that will be our undoing but more likely, AI.
But what I can say with certainty is that what we all share as humans all over the planet and what connects us is the human experience made up of emotions that nothing programmed can ever experience. And it is what has documented our existence since the beginning of time in our hieroglyphics, and our paintings and our storytelling, and in our songs.

When Ally Lewber joined the cast of “Vanderpump Rules” in Season 10 as James Kennedy’s new girlfriend, the chances for drama could not have been any higher. Kennedy had recently ended an engagement with fellow cast member Rachel Leviss, and the history of exes mingling with new partners on the series has historically not gone over well.
However, the 28-year-old has been a refreshingly calm addition. Her love of astrology, cats and music has quickly made her a fan favorite, as has her authenticity and ability to play peacemaker when moments turn emotional or explosive. Lewber was also famously first among the cast to notice Tom Sandoval and Leviss getting close — in Season 10, she recounted to the group seeing the two dancing together late at night at the West Hollywood bar the Abbey.

Luke Combs is the man of the hour. The 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, April 9, and Combs came out on top with eight bids, including Entertainer of the Year. Check out the complete list of nominations here.
This is Combs’s fifth nomination in a row for Entertainer of the Year, an award he has yet to win. This year he’s up against Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and lone female nominee Lainey Wilson. Women are consistently underrepresented in Entertainer of the Year, though Carrie Underwood won in 2020 (in a tie with Thomas Rhett) and Miranda Lambert finally prevailed in 2022. But we mustn’t underestimate Wilson here. She pulled off a huge upset at the CMA Awards last fall, claiming Entertainer of the Year despite being relatively new on the scene.

Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll and Kelsea Ballerini went into the 2024 CMT Music Awards tied for the most nominations (three), and they have maintained that tie all through the public voting process for Video of the Year. The top category started with 16 preliminary contenders, and those three artists are now the finalists eligible to win the award tonight, April 7, during a ceremony airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Fan voting is now open on the CMT Music Awards Facebook using specific hashtags and Instagram commenting with artist name and #cmtawards.
Johnson, Jelly Roll, and Ballerini have never won Video of the Year before, so the CMT Awards are guaranteed to crown a new winner tonight. But all three have won before in other categories, so we know they all have strong fan bases supporting them. But Jelly Roll might be especially formidable. He had three nominations last year and...

Noah Kahan has spent the past few weeks popping up as a surprise guest at other artists’ concerts, and on Saturday the situation was flipped at Kahan’s Toronto gig as the singer welcomed Shawn Mendes onstage to join him on “Stick Season.”
“I’ve been watching this young man’s career for a long time, and in a lot of ways he’s been a North Star for me. When I first got signed, he was still the guy I looked up to a lot,” Kahan said in introducing Mendes onstage.

A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020.
The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience..
“As a former cast member, it is very special,” Wiig said. “I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight… they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”
Well, not quite. Soon more stars came out: Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short and Ryan Gosling. None of whom haven actually hosted five times yet.

Last month, on the night Real Estate released their sixth album, Daniel, they filled a tiny Williamsburg bar with all kinds of Daniel-themed props: name tags with the name “Daniel” on them, pictures of celebrities named Daniel, a full Danny Devito cutout. The album name had started as kind of a joke; they thought it would be funny to give the record a human name, and it just so happened that they’d recorded this new slate of songs in Nashville with producer Daniel Tashian, known for his work with Kacey Musgraves.

Call him the great collaborator. In the past year, Noah Kahan has duetted with Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, and Gracie Abrams, as part of his Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever) series. Now, he’s found the ultimate counterpart: A literal stick. Or as literal as it gets on Sesame Street.
In a teaser for the series’ upcoming 55th season, an adoring stick revealed itself actually to be a fan. “Oh, Noah, Noah,” it fawned, “Thank you, thank you.” Kahan played it cool: “Oh yeah, ‘Season of the Stick.

It’s a good season to be a stick, especially for those on Sesame Street, as Noah Kahan guests in a new clip from the show’s 55th season. Watch it below.
The 44-second clip sees an anthropomorphic stick thanking Kahan for putting twigs everywhere in the spotlight, before ultimately going back to his “day job” of being thrown around for a game of fetch. Kahan doesn’t say much in the sneak peek, though he does close the teaser by singing, “I love Sesame, but it’s the season of the sticks.”

Few country stars have been embraced by the Grammys like Kacey Musgraves has. The singer-songwriter rose to prominence with her mainstream debut, “Same Trailer Different Park,” which became one of the most acclaimed albums of 2013, earning an 89 score on Metacritic and establishing Musgraves as one to watch in the industry. She received four Grammy nominations that year and won Best Country Album in a major upset against Taylor Swift’s commercial blockbuster “Red.” Musgraves followed that with another Grammy-nominated record, “Pageant Material,” but her third try was the charm: “Golden Hour” won Album of the Year and swept its three other nominations in the country field. Then came the pop-leaning “Star-Crossed,” which nevertheless received two country nominations. This year Musgraves is back with “Deeper Well,” which many are considering a return to form and a folk-country masterpiece. She is for sure getting her usual country nominations. But can she crossover to the general field again?...

It was a competitive week on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tracking week that ended March 21, but it wasn’t the battle for the top spot we anticipated. While our racetrack odds projected a close race for number-one between Ariana Grande (“Eternal Sunshine“) and Justin Timberlake (“Everything I Thought It Was”), it actually turned out to be a fight between Grande and Kacey Musgraves (“Deeper Well“), with only 3,500 album units making the difference between first and second place. Read all about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.

Kacey Musgraves has a lot of stories to tell due to her career in country music. Arguably, some of the most interesting stories she can tell are about touring with the legendary Willie Nelson. Even though that tour is long over, the “Three Little Birds” singer has just started revealing the secrets she and the “Red Headed Stranger” share.
Kacey Musgraves Smoked With Willie Nelson
It is unknown just how many country music singers have gone on tour with Willie Nelson and gotten high with him. The “Always On My Mind” singer is famous for use of marijuana and his generous nature when it comes to sharing it. Kacey Musgraves is just one of who-knows-how-many singers have gotten high with Willie Nelson.
Kacey Musgraves has opened up about her time with Willie Nelson. She admits she was part of the antics on the Willie Nelson tour bus after a concert.

Origins is a recurring series that gives artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, country singer Cassandra Lewis sheds light on her new single, “Lost in a Dream.”
There’s a transportive quality to Cassandra Lewis’ voice. From the moment she opens her mouth, the listener is struck with the feeling of being in a different time and place, and while her trilling vibrato might recall Dolly Parton, her belt feels more theatrical, invoking the heartbreaking drama of an artist like Adele.
Lewis is the latest artist to be signed to Elektra’s Low Country Records, and hearing her sing live makes it obvious why the label felt the need to scoop her up. Her emotional power still comes through in recorded format, including on her new single, “Lost In a Dream.”

Kacey Musgraves is learning you are never too old or too famous for your grandmother to set you straight when she believes it needs to be done. Is Kacey Musgraves‘s new album, “Deeper Well,” a return to form? Her “Golden Hour,” which reveled in wedded bliss, was critically hailed and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. But then her follow-up “Star-Crossed,” which chronicled her divorce, received somewhat less enthusiastic notices and only scored two noms. Now three years later comes her latest studio release, which dropped on March 15. What do music journalists think of this one?
“Deeper Well’s” reviews are currently more in line with “Star-Crossed” than “Golden Hour,” though “Golden Hour” would be a tough bar for any artist to clear. As of this writing “Well” has an impressive score of 79 on MetaCritic based on 11 reviews counted: nine of them positive, two somewhat mixed and none outright negative.
Roisin O’Connor (The Independent UK) is the most effusive, calling “Deeper Well” a “revelation” compared to “the somewhat limp results” of “Star-Crossed.” The album...

“It hurts to turn the radio on

Because every time I start to move on

-“Now or Never Now” by Metric
Although not selected for the phenomenal soundtrack for Ned Benson’s follow-up to his similarly themed The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Metric’s “Now or Never Now” nearly sums up the plot of his oft-sublime The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton), a librarian mourning the loss of her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet), is triggered by songs that marked their relationship. An obsessive cataloger (a great quality for a librarian), she has mapped-out the trajectory of their relationships in songs and memorabilia that she accesses in a controlled environment. For the rest of her life there are noise-canceling headphones that she uses to block out songs that send her back into the past.
