Protesters attempted to shame journalists and politicos heading to the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday into skipping the event in solidarity with the many journalists who have lost their lives in Gaza since Israel began its war on the territory.
For some attendees, the protests on the way in may have been the only time they heard about those journalists killed in Gaza — unless they were listening very closely. The slain journalists in Gaza were mentioned one time on stage, according to transcripts of the event, when NBC News...

The long day of impeachment trial coverage ended with a brief moment of suspense — just how will Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-tn) vote on whether to call witnesses and extend the proceedings. At just after 11 p.m. Et, he answered: No.
That raises the likelihood that Democrats will come up short in their efforts to convince enough Republicans to compel witnesses in a vote on Friday, and that the trial will come to a close with a final decision on President Donald Trump’s acquittal or removal later in the day.
On cable news channels, commentators treated Alexander’s announcement as the beginning of the end of proceedings.
“It’s a cover up,” reporter Carl Bernstein said on CNN. “That is what the Senate has now done. They have covered up what the President of the United States has done in his grievous actions when they had the ability to find out more.

Nicholas Bishop has revealed that he is "looking forward" to attending this year's Melbourne Cup. The Australian actor - who used to play Detective Peter Baker in Home and Away but now stars in Body of Proof - said that he has been given a four-day leave pass from the show to return to his home country as the Seven Network's international guest for the racing carnival. Bishop told the Herald Sun: "I have not been to the races for a while; I think the last time I was there was in my Home and Away days. I am looking forward to dressing up and catching up with people, and being part of what is a great, iconic Australian (more)...

Nicholas Bishop has revealed that he had a "crush" on Dana Delany when he was younger. The Australian actor, who used to play Detective Peter Baker in Home and Away but now stars as investigator Peter Dunlap in Body of Proof alongside Delany's coroner Megan Hunt, said that he made her "flustered" on their first day of filming by admitting that she used to be his pin-up girl during her stint on China Beach. Bishop told National Features: "Just as the camera started rolling, I leaned over and said to her: 'Oh, by the way, I had a huge crush on you during China Beach.' She got all kinda flustered and called me all sorts of bad names after the take. "We'd known each other all of about three or four hours... I just thought it was a nice way to break the ice, which it certainly did." > (more...

"This month marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Alan J Pakula's film version of Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward's nonfiction book, All the President's Men," begins Marc Savlov in the Austin Chronicle. "It was one of the best of a handful of films in the crusading reporter subgenre and one that not only has withstood the test of time but also, rewatched today, provokes this thought: 'What the hell has happened to the Fourth Estate?'"
In a sidebar, Savlov notes that the film will be screening this afternoon at the Lbj Library Auditorium. Thursday sees two panel discussions, "Could the media break a story like Watergate today?," with Woodward, Bernstein, Peter Baker of the New York Times, Dana Priest of the Washington Post and Mark Miller of the Texas Tribune, and then later the same day, a discussion of the film with Woodward, Bernstein and Robert Redford.

Mr. President — I’m a big fan but you are suffering from the same mental disease as Lindsay Lohan — Denial!
While virtually the entire Western hemisphere was convinced that Lindsay Lohan was an addict, she stubbornly insisted for years and through miles of partying, DUIs and rehabs, that she wasn’t. That’s called denial with a capital D!
Well, after two years in office, a crippling recession and massive unemployment, you still think that a depressed and discouraged nation should somehow see that you and the Democrats have done a great job in office?
Denial! You are so out of touch in the White House/Washington bubble that you really couldn’t grasp that when millions of people are hurting — they don’t behave rationally.
They won’t applaud lofty legislature accomplishments like health care or big money programs like the stimulus package, when their lives just kept getting lousier.

In this weekend's Nyt Magazine cover story President Obama revealed to Peter Baker that he has discovered "there’s no such thing as shovel-ready projects.” This in stark contrast to the manner in which campaign Obama had pitched the stimulus package. Fox News in particular has been having great fun playing 'shovel ready' montages. So much fun, in fact, our video editor Jon Nicosia made a montage of all of their montages.

Nicholas Bishop, Rose Byrne and Alex O'Loughlin are only several Australian actors making a dent on the small screen.
Here are eight actors who are going strong on TV:
>> Nicholas Bishop, "Body of Proof"
A decade of consistent work in some quality Australian TV dramas, including "Water Rats" and "White Collar Blue" and indie features followed Bishop's 1996 graduation form the National Institute of Dramatic Art. But it was a recurring role as Detective Peter Baker in the long-running Aussie Soap "Home and Away" that brought him the profile and press which led to his casting in Warner/Fox's short-lived "Past Lives." This season he's starring opposite Dana Delany in NBC's "Body of Proof" as former cop-turned-medical examiner.
>> Rose Byrne, "Damages"
Byrne must rate as the busiest Aussie working in Hollywood. She's currently filming "X-Men: First Class," recently completed the Judd Apatow-produced comedy "Bridesmaids" and stars opposite Patrick Wilson in "Insidious,...
