Back in September, Galantis debuted their latest single “Love On Me,” a collaboration with Hook N Sling that blew fans away with its poppy production and irresistible groove. Now the song is back on our minds as the Swedish duo unleash a remix collection for “Love On Me,” featuring five new reworks from Ookay, Peter Bjorn and John, Madison Mars, Cid, and Alex Metric.
For the new Ep, “Love On Me” gets a diverse collection of remixes that take the song in a number of different directions. Ookay delivers an upbeat moombah influenced arrangement, complete with slowed down four on the floor beats and blippy synths juxtaposed against the familiar elements from the original. Cid opts for a future house flavored rework, offering up bouncy basslines, pitch shifted vocals and driving drum patterns.
Madison Mars takes a similar course with an upbeat remix complete with offbeat synth stabs and uplifting melodies,...

Frequent listeners of the Sound On Sight podcast would have heard me discuss my day job working with kids. For the unfamiliar, I am the director of a community center, and the coordinator of a summer camp here in Montreal. At the start of the summer, I was talking to my kids about music and I discovered that none of them knew what a mix tape was, much less an audio cassette – so, I decided it would be a good idea to make them some complications. Of course, I’m not recording these on actual cassettes, but nevertheless, they get the idea. As it turns out, the kids love it, and now that the storyline in Guardians of the Galaxy revolves around a mix tape, they keep asking me to make more. Here’s the most recent compilation I’ve produced following Making Time. This one is simply titled, Awesome Mix Tape Vol.

The members of Franz Ferdinand are in a good mood. In fact, they usually are. It's something I ask lead singer Alex Kapranos about when I speak to him via phone call from London. Unlike some indie-rock outfits, Franz Ferdinand's lyrics tend to be sanguine -- less melancholic. Kapranos recognizes this quality about his band, even if he chuckles at the question like the observation is foreign to him.
It may help that Franz Ferdinand has maintained a pretty even level of fame for quite some time. After hitting mainstream success with 2004's "Take Me Out," the quartet from Glasgow was everywhere, at least as far as indie crossovers go. The group hasn't seen a single as monstrous as that breakout, but the band remains a staple among fans. They recently performed on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "Conan," ushering in the release of their fourth album, "Right Thoughts,...

Coupled with the grabby album title, the three-thumbed severed hand on the cover of Gimme Some suggests that the latest from Peter Bjorn And John might cut a little deeper than the frothy pop songs for which the Swedish trio is best known. Sure enough, there’s a song called “Dig A Little Deeper,” where singer Peter Morén urges complacent artists everywhere to, well, dig a little deeper. But he doesn’t really take his own advice. Gimme Some is a breezy, risk-averse collection of genre impersonations—terse surf punk on “Breaker Breaker,” an uncanny homage to Billy Idol ...

People who bought Writer’s Block, the third LP from Swedish trio Peter Bjorn And John, on the basis of the hit single “Young Folks” were likely confounded by the album as a whole, with its eclectic mix of wall-of-sound folk-pop and noisy vamps. “Young Folks” fans will likely be even more baffled by the new Pb&J album, Living Thing. It holds to a more unified sound, but one that’s dark and brittle, with little of the band’s prior sunny spirit. Taking a cue from the new album’s title, Peter Bjorn And John now seem to ...

Whether as producer, artist, or remixer—all those hats are on display on the Philly DJ's quasi-best-of Decent Work For Decent Pay: Selected Works Volume One—Diplo's tracks tend to hang on isolated moments repeated, and their success often depends on what's been isolated. The rhythm-guitar cluck he rebuilds Peter Bjorn And John's "Young Folks" around (the whistle is used sparingly) gives it a new spring without necessarily improving it, and that happens a few times on Decent Work: See also Diplo's irritating reworking of Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger" and the blipping ...

The shuffler: Peter Morén, singer, guitarist, and harmonicist of Swedish indie-pop trio Peter Bjorn And John. He recently completed a U.S. tour behind his new John Lennon-esque solo debut, The Last Tycoon. P1/E, "49 Second Romance" Peter Morén: I got it from a good friend called Stephen who works for [Yale's] Holocaust archive. He used to be in a band called Butterglory. He used to live in Sweden before. This is like '80s electronic. I don't know. It's kind of funny, Kraut synthesizer, and very monotone. The A.V. Club: How do you feel about Kraftwerk? Pm: I love Kraftwerk, totally. I guess they're pretty melodic. Great melodies and all of those vintage synths work well with voices that are very monotone. They are very long songs, like the Trans-Europe Express album—I think it's great. It puts me in a pretty good mood....
