Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and Jennifer Hudson are some of the most famous names to come from American Idol. These stars certainly deserve their fame, but what about the lesser-known American Idol alumni? Singers like MacKenzie Bourg and Elise Testone are sometimes forgotten in Idol discourse because of their eliminations or where their careers went after the singing competition. However, many fans believe the world has seriously slept on these artists. Here’s a closer look at Bourg, Testone, and more underrated American Idol contestants.

“American Idol” continued with the 10th episode of Season 20 on Sunday, April 10. This installment of the ABC reality TV competition saw judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie relinquish their power over to America. 12 of the Top 24 performed at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii on Sunday, April 10. The other half will perform on Monday, April 11. Two singers with the lowest amount of votes from each night will be eliminated.

Below I rank each hopeful from the least impressive (but with room to grow) to a possible Season 20 frontrunner.

Just two years after it was cancelled by Fox, “American Idol” returns to ABC on March 11. When this reality competition series hit the airwaves back in 2002, it was a ratings smash, and many of its early winners enjoyed huge success. Indeed, its first-ever champ, Kelly Clarkson, has won three Grammys and parlayed her fame into a string of hit records and a new gig as a judge on the competition, NBC’s’ “The Voice.”
However, many of the more recent music newcomers to be named “American Idol” have found that their time in the spotlight is fleeting. In the photo gallery above, we take a look back at the first 15 “American Idol” winners to date and see how many have been lucky so far and which have been jinxed.

Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

American Idol season 1 debuted about a week after The Wire season 1 did. Though my TV tastes over the years trended much more towards complicated scripted dramas like the latter, I spent a long time watching the former, and enjoying it in the moments when the series wasn't busy padding its run time with inanities (like the entire judging career of Randy Jackson) and simply let the contestants sing. Often, those performances were just overpraised photocopies of the original moments, but when an Idol singer put their own stamp on a familiar tune, or dug up an obscurity and made it sound like a hit, I couldn't begrudge the series its enormous popularity. Eventually, the show got too repetitive for me to stick with, especially as more and more scripted options rose up demanding my attention. The last time I watched an Idol season from start to finish was the 9th,...

Dear America,
We need to talk.
No, I’m not moving to Canada if Screamy McOrangeFace wins the presidency — I can’t live in a world where I have to wait three or four days to watch my programs, and let’s not forget the importance of doing our civic duty in the midterm elections in 2018.
But my fellow residents of the U.S., you didn’t just drop the ball with this week’s American Idol, you took an anvil, slammed it through the roof and all the way down into the basement.

We've just learned the exhilarating news that "Survivor" has posted a list of 32 potential veterans who are eligible to come back for a "Second Chance" season. Does the name "Kelly Wiglesworth" still send shivers of excitement through your spine as if reality TV is a new and burgeoning genre full of utopian possibilities, including Richard Hatch's financial stability? Well, it should. It's hard to pick the absolute best reality contestant who didn't win his/her particular season. Parvati comes to mind during the season of Sandra's second victory, but it's almost never the #1 player who wins that show. I think you have to look at "American Idol" for the greatest competitors who never became voter favorites. I'm a big fan of season 9 tenth-place finisher Didi Benami, season seven star Carly Smithson, and -- my #1 favorite contestant ever -- season six third-place finisher Melinda Doolittle. "American Idol" returned on Wednesday (January 7) night to somewhat tepid ratings and with a one-hour episode that was almost entirely devoid of likely breakout talent. Fox posted the first episode online for critics and then wisely posted the second, which is airing tonight. The move was wise because, as you'll soon see, Thursday's episode is much, much better. There are three or four contestants who appeared on Thursday's episode and seem like plausible Finalists. So click through and follow along as I recap the highlights and lowlights. [Key Warning: It turned out yesterday that the Fox-provided screener for the premiere wasn't exactly what aired. It was mostly what aired, but apparently I saw some singing viewers didn't get. And vice versa. So take this recap, especially the time-code, with a grain of salt. Hopefully the people I liked will make it to air.] 00:00:00 Is it my screener or are we starting with some righteous "Inception"-style bass? I guess that adds some drama to the reminder that "Idol" makes stars and that it's about the kids, not gimmicks or judges. But really, it's making me believe that "Idol" is all about the bass. 00:02:00 We're beginning again in Nashville. The judges want to find a superstar.

American Idol’s final four contestants – Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Jess Meuse and Alex Preston – each sang three songs Wednesday evening. All of the Idol hopefuls had to sing a breakup, makeup and a dedication number for the chance to crack into the top three.
American Idol Recap
Caleb Johnson was first up and sang Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Though it wasn’t as innovative as when Blake Lewis beat boxed it a few seasons ago, Johnson’s take on the song was still unique and deserving of praise from the judges. Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez were particularly complimentary of his rock presence on stage.
Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Travelin Band” served as Johnson’s dedication song. It was a song that Lopez described as being in the rocker’s “wheelhouse.” Most surprising was Johnson’s choice to dramatically slow down the ending.

Fox hasn’t officially confirmed it, but sources close to American Idol are buzzing that Season 12 Top 4 week will be a two-theme kind of party: One-Hit Wonders and Contestant’s Choice.
The former — which topped an At&T “fan’s choice” vote — has the potential to be fantastic, as long as producers don’t try to force the contestants toward novelty hits or tired old songs that have been covered on Idol a million times before (and simply happen to qualify under the one-hit wonder header).

Like the music industry, it takes a lot for an American Idol contestant to truly impress me. Had Nigel Lythgoe tapped me as a judge, there would be far fewer unanimous standing ovations (although my girl Nicki Minaj has been keeping it real this season). Don't get me wrong, an ear-delicious vocal performance sets my hair on end, but serve something original if you want to see me rise.

The American Idol Judges’ Save is kind of like that panini press in the back of your pantry. It seemed pretty nifty when you got it back in 2009, but you’ve ended up using it only once every 12 months, and now you’re like, “Is it time to put this contraption out on the front stoop and hope somebody takes it off my hands?”
Of course, once you get the thing out and dust it off, you think, “Oooh, I might have a little hunk of gruyere in the cheese drawer. Maybe I should make me a sammie.”

In 2013, even as American Idol’s ratings are slipping to all-time lows, its alumni are enjoying more cultural visibility than ever. Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson still turn out top-ten singles; Katharine McPhee and Jennifer Hudson are working our nerves on Smash; even non-winners like Blake Lewis and Stefano have dance hits; plus, last year’s coronation song “Home” is now officially the best-selling song by any Idol alumnus ever. These kids are defying our expectations and showing that they can create something new and relevant out there in the real world. So obviously what we should do is trot this year’s top seven out and make them fumble through 40-year-old songs they’ve never heard, for the third week in a row. Tonight is rock night! Or, as I call it, countdown to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Ryan promises us rock classics from the likes of Queen,...

Well, that was the weirdest possible way to introduce season 12's finalists to America, wouldn't you say? To recap, Ryan Seacrest sat the 20 remaining hopefuls in what looked like a cramped classroom (very Up the Down Staircase) and led each surviving finalist through a long corridor and to the stage for a victory performance. In case that wasn't bizarre enough, Ryan sometimes gave the performers little pep talks before they hit the stage. And we all know what a sympathetic character Seacrest is.
"You did it. All the hard work paid off," Seacrest muttered to Candice Glover like a scripted high-school guidance counselor. So, so weird.
Here's what's important. The ten finalists (chosen by home viewer votes) were announced, and now it's our job to rank them in two ways: 1) by merit, based solely on who deserves to be the next American Idol most; 2) by likeliness to win, based solely...

American Idol really, really wants a woman to win this season. At the beginning of Thursday's episode, they reminded us that a female singer hasn't won the show since 2007, when Jordin Sparks bested Blake Lewis for the top prize.
Let's put this into perspective: The last time a woman won, George W. Bush was still president, J.K. Rowling was still writing the Harry Potter series, and no one had any idea who Snooki was. Well, maybe a few people knew her.
After Ryan Seacrest all but begged us to vote for a female, we finally got to see the level of the women's talent.

To err is human. To occasionally leave a really great singer stranded without a lifeline? Well, that’s just being a coach on The Voice.
Yes, folks, after two stellar episodes (and zero egregious errors) to kick off the show’s Season 3 Battle Rounds, Monday night’s two-hour telecast featured a couple of serious stumbles (if not full-on face-plants) by Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine.

Feud? What feud?
Just over 24 hours after the new American Idol judges panel was made official, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have found themselves battling rumors of behind-the-scenes disagreements. But the pair laughed them off during a press conference today in New York City. (Of course, was there really any other response we expected?)
“How can you feud in two days?” Carey joked. “I think a feud takes a little longer .”
Carey and Minaj were joined by Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest as they previewed the new season, which will be the first for three of the judges.

For the final salvo in what’s arguably been the deepest, most evenly matched field in American Idol history, Tuesday night’s Season 11 finale came up surprisingly light in the competitive fireworks department.
Maybe the Top 2 — Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips — were still heeding last week’s instructions from their fallen comrade Joshua Ledet: “No! More! Drama!” Or perhaps it was just the incongruousness of the matchup, which was akin to making a choice between a stunning courture evening gown and a perfectly battered old t-shirt. (“But what’s the occasion?” you might’ve asked.)

American Idol Finale Part 1: What a Girl Wants
I think American Idol finales fall in to two camps: ones where the finalists are matched so evenly, where the result isn't as obvious as it seems. And then there are ones like tonight. I know how I think the results should turn out, but the signs were all over the place tonight: Phillip Phillips is winning American Idol.
Round 1: Simon Fuller's choice
Jessica Sanchez "I Have Nothing" I don't even know what to say about this. Sure this is a song in Jessica's wheelhouse, and she did what she could with it. But given that a)Shannon Magrane had already sung it This Season, and that b) it's the Third Whitney song Jessica has performed, I began to get angry. What an uninspired and predictable song choice. B
Phillip Phillips "Stand By Me" This is a great song,...

The American Idol Top 3, Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and Joshua Ledet will be heading home to film their hometown visits this weekend. During their visit, they will learn the name of the songs chosen for them by Jimmy Iovine and the judges. Then next Wednesday (Fox 8 p.m.), each contestant will sing 3 songs: Jimmy’s Choice, Judges’ Choice, and Their Choice.
The hometown visits will air on Thursday’s results show (8 p.m.), which will also feature Adam Lambert singing his latest single, “Never Close Our Eyes,” and Lisa Marie Presley performing “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” from her new album,...

Randy Jackson isn't as infuriating when I think of him as less of a person, and more as a fountain of nonsense. Oh, look at the fountain! Spitty spit spit! Nonsense aplenty! Great party, Diane! But mysteriously, Randy abandoned his love of nonsense for a split second during last night's results show when he noted one truth: This may be the best final five in Idol history. Think of it. Season eight? Had Danny Gokey. Season three? Had George Huff. Even season six, which featured my candidate for the greatest American Idol contestant history -- Ms. Melinda Doolittle -- featured Blake Lewis in the Top 2. In other words: Season 11, you're the top.
And that makes this week's elimination damn difficult. Which of the five remaining troubadours shuffled on out of the Idol murderdome? Was it Phillip, Jessica, Hollie, Skylar, or Joshua? We reveal all below.

The set list for tonight’s American Idol Top 5 performance show has been leaked by band leader Ray Chew — in addition to the previously announced British Music theme, the remaining finalists will also tackle a track from the 1960s — and now it’s time to speculate who will sing what.
First, here are the song spoilers, which include a lot of familiar titles. (Oh Uncle Nigel, when will you hire a year-round staff to start pre-clearing a fresher and deeper song library?)
The ’60s
The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”

America, you only have yourself to blame. In a pattern repeated for the past few seasons, "American Idol" viewers seem to get a little lazy this time of year and suddenly forget to vote for their favorites, putting one of the potential winners in jeopardy.
Case in point: preternaturally talented teen diva Jessica Sanchez. Even after killing it on Wednesday night (again) , Bebe Chez very nearly got sent home in seventh place Thursday night in one of the most shocking near-eliminations in recent history.
The judges didn't even have to hear her sing before they jumped up to save the singer , but she came thisclose to becoming the latest super-talent to wash...

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

Top 13 Guys: American Idol Recap
Let's start this season of American Idol right: with a multiple choice test. Don't worry, much like the Idol judges, I won't fail you, and the right answer will mean as much to you as the outcome of last night's show.
Which of the following was most annoying last night?
A: The fact that even with a new set and increased promises that this was the best season ever, nothing seemed to have changed from last year.
B. That the little constructive criticism given last night seemed to be aimed at producer favorites, feeling a little like Idol trying to use reverse psychology
C. That it was never certain exactly who had control over song choice
D. That we were supposed to laugh at the judge's antics, when in fact they were boorish and borderline offensive
E. That Heejun has been given the 'funny' edit,...

The remaining seventy contestants of American Idol were up for a challenge this week, being put into groups of three and four, singing music from the 50s or 60s. The Idol hopefuls took over the stage in Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis Theatre at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and gave the performance of their lives. Finally, Idol delivered two hours of nonstop musical entertainment.
Cari Quoyser, Chase Likens, Skylar Laine, and Colton Dixon brought such a sweetness to the stage and opened the night with great satisfaction. This era fits Quoyser perfectly, don’t you think? The judges did not think that this performance was her best though and unfortunately, she was cut. What a disappointment. Laine was the one worrying about hitting her notes and not ruining the sound of the group with her distinct country sound… but she wasn’t the one the judges were concerned about.

Ryan introduced us to the city of Pittsburgh tonight, telling us that the trip was so successful they all wondered why they'd never been there before. “Everything we do, we do it big,” said one hopeful. (Texas called. It wants its slogan back.)
Without the pomp and circumstance of the season 11 premiere - and without the need for bloating the show to fit a two-hour time slot - we jumped right into the auditions.
Hallie Day Audition
First up was Heejun Han. When he hit the screen I thought “is this guy high?” And then I thought “No, just socially awkward.” And then I thought “No. Definitely high. This is going to be awful.” Then he sang. Somehow we’re supposed to believe that 1) no one has Ever heard him sing before, and 2) he had no idea he could sing in the first place. I'm completely confused by this guy.

The "Project Runway All Stars" season is upon us (premieres Thurs., Jan. 5, 9 p.m. Est on Lifetime), and while I'm so excited to see Mondo, Rami, Sweet P, Austin, Kenley and the gang try to make it work again, I can't help but think about what other reality competition shows are due for an all-star season of their own.
"Top Chef" has done it; "The Amazing Race" got its shot; "Survivor" and "Big Brother" routinely bring back winners and fan favorites; and Tyra Banks just had her favorite smizing runners-up back for more "America's Next Top Model."
So what other shows are deserving of the all-star treatment? Here are five I'd like to see ...

Admittedly, even though we voted for her it sometimes slips our mind that Jordin Sparks won "American Idol." Seriously, we remember Taylor Hicks before her.
But win Season 6 she did. She beat beatbox boy Blake Lewis! And on Thursday (Sept. 8) she followed up a weekend performance at the Mda Labor Day telethon by singing the National Anthem at the 2011 NFL Kickoff Game: Saints at Packers.
Love the ombre hair, Jordin.
