Exclusive: Steel Springs Pictures has partnered with the card game We’re Not Really Strangers to create an exclusive sale of projects and formats that will expand upon the core essence of the brand.
The deal is the first to be announced through Steel Springs Pictures’ newly minuted Non-Fiction division, which former OWN/Harpo executive Jonathan Sinclair (Oprah’s Master Class) is leading as President, Non-Fiction.
Created and launched by Koreen Odiney in 2018, We’re Not Really Strangers was born out of the idea of fostering meaningful connections, designed to spark emotional dialogue and explore the dynamics of human connection in very tangible and revealing ways. The game gained a substantial following and established itself as beloved IP during the course of the Covid pandemic, spawning collaborations with the fashion brands Dvf and Valentino. Exclusive: After relaunching its film division last October, Castle Rock Entertainment has set a first project out of the gate that will have a familiar ring. It’s Spinal Tap II, a sequel to the fabled rock mockumentary that set the film company on a run of hits, many of them directed by Rob Reiner. He made his directorial debut on the 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap.
Reiner will direct the sequel and return as filmmaker Marty Dibergi. Also back are David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), the nucleus of England’s loudest and sauciest heavy metal band.

The International Documentary Association (Ida) announced nominations for the 2014 Ida Documentary Awards today, with awards being bestowed December 5th at the Paramount Theatre on the studio lot. The top films nominated in the best feature category include the critically-acclaimed Citizenfour from filmmaker Laura Poitras about Edward Snowden and the state of surveillance of civilians post 9/11 which has been enjoying a theatrical run and Nick Broomfield’s Tales Of The Grim Sleeper about the serial killer who terrorized South Central Los Angeles over 25 years.
