Entertainment, news, and the paranormal are connected more than you might think. I find it interesting that every person in the paranormal community I’ve talked with is also a horror nerd like me—the horror genre and belief in the unexplained are undeniably intertwined.
That’s why for this month’s Dead Time, I wanted to talk with paranormal journalist, TV host, podcaster, and fellow spooky nerd Aaron Sagers.
During his extensive career as a journalist, Sagers has appeared on numerous TV shows and online videos. You’ve probably seen him analyzing bizarre videos on Paranormal Caught on Camera on Travel Channel and Discovery Plus or hosting shows like Discovery’s Paranormal Lockdown: Evidence Revealed or the web series Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Ripley’s Road Trip. Sagers has a new show on Netflix called 28 Days Haunted, which is an intriguing experiment using three paranormal teams...

Though the word “paranormal” generally refers to phenomena not currently explainable by science, when it comes to paranormal television as a genre, it is strictly defined. There are formulas, patterns, even rules, necessitated by network needs for consistency to keep the audience coming back. But within the scope of their YouTube series Travel the Dead, veteran paranormal investigators and television personalities Katrina Weidman and Heather Taddy are asking if there’s a different way.
Weidman and Taddy both emerged on the television scene in 2007 with A&e’s Paranormal State, one of the early successes in the investigative style format, which lasted five seasons. The two became fast friends on the show, and since then, have gone on to appear on numerous series between them. Weidman continued as host of Real Fear: The Truth Behind the Movies, Paranormal Lockdown, and Portals to Hell, where she’s also an executive producer.

This 28 Days Haunted article contains spoilers.
Editor’s Note: Aaron Sagers is the host of Netflix’s 28 Days Haunted and Den of Geek’s paranormal pop culture podcast Talking Strange. The following article is not a review or endorsement of 28 Days Haunted, but rather a distinct point of view from someone involved in the production.
Would you spend 28 days in a haunted house? The question sounds like the set up for a horror movie, but it is effectively the question viewers must ask themselves after watching 28 Days Haunted, Netflix’s first unscripted paranormal investigation show.
The series, which dropped last week and charted on the streamer’s Top 10 list globally, embeds three teams of investigators in three separate allegedly haunted locations for a month. The premise is said to derive from a theory by famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens died in 2006 and 2019, respectively,...

Growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs, class trips to historic Fort Mifflin were as common as they were kind of boring. These days, however, the stronghold that sits on the Delaware River is considered one of the most haunted places in town. So I was all in when Portals to Hell hosts Jack Osbourne and Katrina Weidman invited me for a tour of the grounds while their crews set up to film the May 7 episode. “There were about 150 Colonial Americans killed here,” Osbourne told me, explaining how Washington’s troops were “decimated” during a British naval attack. And some of them are apparently still hanging around. As we walked through a few of the more active areas, Weidman shared ghost stories. Guests have reported “seeing glowing eyes and shifting shadows” in the windowless, very unsettling armory where we stood. Recently, students visiting from a local school for the blind all...

“This place is f—ing scary,” Jack Osbourne, the veteran paranormal investigator (and youngest member of the coolest family Ever) said after just a few minutes in the Hill View Manor – a shuttered nursing home where former patients are rumored to live on after death, and the location of the Season 3 opener of “Portals to Hell” on discovery+.
Osbourne and fellow ghost hunter Katrina Weidman are at it again, scouring the country to find – and confront – the most haunted locations and sinister of spirits, who are at unrest… or who have a vendetta that they are determined to settle, even if it’s after their death.
In the exclusive clip at the top of this article, Osbourne and Weidman have only been in the Hill View Manor for a few minutes, but they’ve already got the willies. And there is a darn good reason why. The manor was built...

When Portals to Hell returns for a third season on April 9, with a same-day debut on Travel Channel and discovery+, you won’t hear Jack Osbourne and Katrina Weidman talking too much about hell, or demons. Rather, the duo kicks off 13 new episodes with a paranormal investigation of the shuttered nurshing home Hill View Manor in New Castle, Pennsylvania, where they seek “The Creeper ” shadow figure.
“It was the fucking craziest place we’ve been to,” says Osbourne about Hill View in a recent interview with Den of Geek for the Talking Strange paranormal pop culture show and podcast.
“That place was bonkers,” he adds about the location featured in the season premiere. “Every time I investigate somewhere, and they go, ‘Oh, there’s a ghost named Charlie, or a creeper, or a crawler, or the shadow man,’ and you’re just like many times do we hear that? But they weren’t lying.

Smiling Woman and Other Short Horror Films from Alex Magaña: "Last Halloween I entered an under 3 minute horror short film contest. I lost, but since it's release, my short "Smiling Woman" has passed 2 million views on YouTube! Seeing the way people have reacted to it and the positive feed back inspired me to make more horror short films. It's been tough with the quarantine and Covid-19 but I've been finding creative ways to work and stay safe, such as filming out in the woods where we'd be away from people, writing scripts with a small cast and keeping to a 2-3 person crew. Starting July 15th, I have released an under 3 minute horror short film every Wednesday and will continue to do so.

Discovery’s Travel Channel is searching for ghosts following its rebrand rather than focusing on traditional travelogues.
The network rebranded at the end of last year with a new logo – Trvl – and has launched a raft of paranormal series including Ghost Adventures, Haunted Live, specials including Chris Jericho: Monster Hunt and month-long event Ghostober.
Its latest series is Portals to Hell starring Jack Osboune and paranormal researcher and investigator Katrina Weidman.
Travel Channel boss Jane Latman told Deadline, “You can see from the logo that we’re trying to redefine what travel is for today’s audience. We have a saying in our development room which is ‘if you can find it on YouTube or Yelp, let’s not make a TV show about it’. We’re really trying to redefine the brand for today.”

Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman are haunted hostages as Paranormal Lockdown season 3 throws away the skeleton key.
Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman might be suffering from a kind of spiritual Stockholm Syndrome. The two paranormal investigators endured two seasons of location shooting where they would spend an "unprecedented 72 hours confined to the most haunted locations in search of groundbreaking evidence of the paranormal," according to a press statement from Destination America about their show, Paranormal Lockdown. In that time, they've formed a special bond with their ethereal captors. Season 3 will see the pair toss back some moonshine in old Kentucky.
"In response to employee claims that bourbon isn’t the only spirit locked inside the massive warehouses on the property," Paranormal Lockdown season 3 will feature the first-ever televised paranormal investigation of the Jim Beam American Stillhouse in Clermont, Ky.

The killing came a year after the pair, both bartenders, made the national news when they decided to stay put at their property, above a voodoo shop, during Hurricane Katrina.
