Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Season 19 stars Captain Sig Hansen and his daughter, Mandy Hansen, aboard the F/V Northwestern. Sig has been a part of the series for over a decade, but fans are unlikely to see him open up about certain details from his past. Here’s what to know about Sig’s first marriage to Lisa Eckstrom.
Captain Sig Hansen was briefly married to Lisa Eckstrom
Deadliest Catch Season 19 fans occasionally see Sig Hansen’s wife, June Hansen, on the small screen. But Sig had a marriage before June. Sig was briefly married to his first wife, Lisa Eckstrom, and they had a child together.
It’s unclear how long Sig and Lisa were married. While they had a daughter, Melissa Eckstrom, together, they separated before she was born. The courts awarded Sig visitation rights after the divorce trial in 1992, but he ultimately chose to relinquish his rights.

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Season 19 continues to show Sig Hansen as the captain of the F/V Northwestern. Sig’s entire family — including his daughter, Mandy — is involved in the crab fishing industry. And his brother, Edgar Hansen, was once a series regular. So, what happened to Edgar Hansen? Here’s where he seems to be in 2023.

Fans who’ve kept up with Deadliest Catch through the years know all about Edgar Hansen. In season 9, he took over operations of the F/V Northwestern. Working closely with Mandy Hansen, Sig Hansen’s daughter, he led the vessel to successfully fish through the Alaskan waters. Oddly enough, he disappeared in season 15 without much explanation. If the Discovery Channel was angling for a hit show, then they hauled it in with the “Deadliest Catch,” which premiered in 2005 and has aired every year since.
The documentary series, narrated by Mike Rowe, follows crab fishermen and crab boats as they ply their dangerous and sometimes deadly trade in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons. The base for the crab fleet is the Aleutian Islands port of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
Through the years of the TV show’s airing, it has proven popular around the globe, making the skippers, their crewman, and their boats, celebrities in their own right.
This year’s season, which kicks off with a two-hour premiere on April 19, finds the crews of nine crab vessels trying to cope with the Alaskan government shutting down red king crab catching for the season. You’ll also find them contending with the usual treacherous seas,...

On this week’s Deadliest Catch on Discovery, Sig and Edgar Hansen’s boat the Northwestern and all her crew reap the rewards of a fortuitous crabbing season. It was a challenge, but hunches and well-laid plans combined with pure maritime luck of the draw will see hefty paydays for Sig, Edgar and all of their crew. Our clip shows Edgar in the captain’s room steering the Northwestern in relatively calm Bering seas as the guys prepare to bring up a pot, and Edgar is dying to know how many crabs are in it. So far this season, the Northwestern has had […]

For Deadliest Catch captain Sig Hansen, the end of Season 12 — and the crab-fishing season — couldn’t come soon enough. And who could blame him?
Not only were the crab particularly elusive, but there was a fire aboard Hansen’s boat, the Northwestern, and he suffered a heart attack at sea. Still, “at the end of the day,” he tells TVLine, “I think that I did fine.”

Under ordinary circumstances, if you spotted a beach littered with luggage from a plane crash, you’d probably call it a tragedy. But if you happen to be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, you might instead call it a yard sale.
At least that was what Nick — as much a wit as he is a survivor — did in this week’s Fear the Walking Dead. Of course, there was more waiting for the Abigail’s passengers on shore than just travel-size cream rinse and dog-eared copies of SkyMall.
Who? What? Read on, and we’ll unpack “Ouroboros” together.

There's dark, and then there's middle-of-the-ocean dark. That's what the crab fisherman working on the Northwestern in tonight's episode of "Deadliest Catch" (Tues. May 27 at 9:00 p.m. Et on Discovery) must face in this exclusive clip. After a good haul, the Northwestern's alarms go off -- and so does the electricity. This doesn't sound so scary until you realize these men are stuck on the bobbing, weaving and potentially pitching deck. Yeah, they have entirely legit reasons for being scared of the dark. So does relief captain Edgar Hansen, who has to find out what's wrong as well as keep everyone from panicking. Also in this week's episode, two boats are stalled -- one captain is in the hospital while another is on a bender -- meaning crab fishing season won't be as profitable for at least a few of the men. Out at sea an alleged felon is trapped,...

Did you get queasy watching this week’s storm-filled episode of Deadliest Catch? You are not alone.
The hour showed the fleet battling winds strong enough — and waves high enough — to ultimately make the captains shut down fishing. At one point, the Northwestern lost the only forward-facing light it had working and the deck went dark. I talked anxiously to my TV: “Are guys still out there?” Big waves are dangerous when you can see them coming. And when you can’t? It reminded me of something exec producer Thom Beers once told me about why TV viewers were drawn...

Discovery Channel’s Emmy-winning reality show Deadliest Catch returns April 22, and as you’ll see in our exclusive first-look at the premiere’s cold open, which previews the landmark tenth season, there is no shortage of compelling stories. Josh Harris has the Cornelia Marie back crabbing, Sig Hansen has his 18-year-old daughter Mandy working on the Northwestern, boats are seen on fire and flooding, someone is heard yelling, “Man down! Man down! Man down!,” and both the Coast Guard and the Alaska State Troopers make appearances. “You, of course, want your tenth season to be awesome, like any other. But...

On Tuesday, April 22, "Deadliest Catch" launches its landmark 10th season on Discovery Channel, with political hurdles and a surge from the next generation of Bering Sea crabbers.
As fans know, last season, Discovery and Original Productions couldn't come to terms with Josh Harris, the new owner of the F/V Cornelia Marie, the ship formerly captained by his late father, Capt. Phil Harris.
The saga of the Harris family is close to the hearts of "Deadliest" fans, and the absence was keenly felt. But when cameras descended once more upon Dutch Harbor to chronicle the 2013 king-crab season, Discovery reports that Josh Harris was back, as owner and captain of the beloved blue-and-yellow vessel.
Apparently, Harris picked a tumultuous time to return to "Deadliest," as a government shutdown keeps the fleet in dock past the scheduled beginning of the crab season. Last October, Keith Colburn, captain of the F/V Wizard,...

Back in September, before the start of king-crab season for the Bering Sea crab-fishing fleet on Discovery's "Deadliest Catch," Edgar Hansen, the deck boss and engineer on the F/V Northwestern, headed to the Boston area to do a guest stint on PBS' long-running home-improvement show "This Old House."
When he spoke to Zap2it in the fall, Hansen hadn't yet filmed his spot. On this February day, during opilio-crab season, Hansen gets on a satellite phone from a stopover to offload crab on St. Paul Island to share a few stories of his experience on a different sort of reality TV show.

Although the crab fishermen featured on Discovery's "Deadliest Catch" -- returning for a 10th season this spring -- ply their trade on Alaska's Bering Sea, many of them have their home port in Seattle, Wash. So it's no surprise to hear that, far out in the ocean, the crews still managed to follow the fortunes of their home NFL team, the Seahawks.
And when second-year quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawks routed veteran Qb Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos to win Super Bowl Xlviii by a score of 43-8 on Sunday, Feb. 2, full pots weren't the only thing making the crabbers happy.
At St. Paul Island a couple of days after the triumph, Edgar Hansen, deck boss of the F/V Northwestern, captained by older brother Sig Hansen, calls in on a satellite phone and tells Zap2it, "We're offloading our crab, getting a chance to nap and take a shower.

A cameraman for Discovery's "Deadliest Catch" once asked F/V Northwestern deckboss Edgar Hansen what he was going to do if his body could no longer take the punishment of crab fishing on Alaska's Bering Sea. That simple question rocked Hansen's world.
"I had to step back," Hansen tells Zap2it. "'Criminy, I don't know. I don't know.' That was four years ago. So, if you watch the show, you know I took a year off. I started my own company, got a little remodeling thing going on, kitchens, bathrooms, whatnot."
Hansen spoke with Zap2it from Florida, where he is remodeling a house in the Keys to rent out. He returned to fishing on the Northwestern after his break on dry land -- even captaining during opilio-crab season in early 2013 -- but he hasn't lost his love for transforming houses.

When fans of the reality hit "Deadliest Catch," airing Tuesdays on Discovery Channel, first met deckhand Jake Anderson, he was a wide-eyed greenhorn (rookie fisherman) coming aboard the F/V Northwestern to catch crab in Alaska's Bering Sea.
Under the tutelage of Capt. Sig Hansen and his younger brother, deck boss Edgar Hansen, Anderson endured the losses of his sister and father, matured into a full-share deckhand and deck boss in his own right, got married, and earned the licenses necessary to perhaps one day become a skipper.
But not all fans have caught up with Anderson's accomplishments.
"I think I will always probably be kind of the underdog, the greenhorn," Anderson tells Zap2it. "I've been fishing crab alone for eight years, and I've always been in that position of being a greenhorn.

In May of 2012, deckhand Jake Anderson, until recently part of the crew of the crab-boat F/V Northwestern, featured on Discovery's Tuesday reality hit "Deadliest Catch," married sweetheart Jenna Patterson in a ceremony officiated by Northwestern Capt. Sig Hansen.
Ever since Anderson came on the Northwestern years ago as a fresh-faced greenhorn, he's looked up to Hansen as a mentor. After his own father's disappearance in 2010 -- Keith Anderson's remains were found in 2012 -- Hansen also became like a surrogate father to Anderson.
Early in 2013, Anderson left the Northwestern to pursue his ambition to be a crab-boat captain by working aboard the F/V Kiska Sea, owned by Aleutian Spray Fisheries. But that doesn't mean he's cut ties with his old skipper.
In the past, Anderson has been known to do chores around the Hansen home near Seattle, Wash., and not much has changed. Only now, instead of mowing lawns,...

In July 2012, the remains of Keith Anderson, father of Jake Anderson, until recently a deckhand on the crab-fishing boat F/V Northwestern, were found in the forests of Washington State.
The elder Anderson had been missing for more than two years, and fans of Discovery's Tuesday-night reality hit "Deadliest Catch" had watched Anderson struggle through, first, the premature death of his beloved sister, and then his father's disappearance.
So, when Jake Anderson -- who just got married the previous May -- went back to work on Northwestern on Alaska's Bering Sea last fall for blue-crab season, he may not have been in the best place mentally. After an on-deck dispute, he started throwing punches at fellow longtime deckhand Matt Bradley.

In case you ever wondered whether the crab fishermen of Discovery's Tuesday-night reality hit "Deadliest Catch" are now living Kardashian-style lives and hiring other people to do the dirty work, wonder no more.
"I'm in the wheelhouse," Edgar Hansen, deckboss of the F/V Northwestern, tells Zap2it. "We're in the shipyard. We're doing all the boat maintenance. We've got engines torn apart, cranes off."
Told that TV stars should have people to handle this for them, Hansen laughs.
"Oh, no," he says, "you should see me right now. I'm covered in grease and paint chips. We're trying to get it all done by June 2, to go after salmon. We do that in June, July and August. We're a little nervous about it, but whatever, it'll come together."
Hansen's older brother, Sig Hansen, is captain of the huge white Northwestern, one of the top boats in Alaska's Bering Sea fishing fleet.

Tonight, Deadliest Catch returns for its ninth season on Discovery, and there is top-notch drama even before the fleet leaves Dutch Harbor. Here, courtesy of exec producer David Pritikin, is a tease of what’s to come.
• Elliott Neese is now his own boss: Fired from the Ramblin’ Rose in the offseason, the show’s youngest and most polarizing captain has gone more than $1 million in debt to buy his own boat, the F/V Saga. Most shocking perhaps: Seeing the pride in his father’s misty eyes may, at least for a moment, have you thinking you’ve misjudged Elliott.

This makes us miss Bear Grylls… Among the new shows Discovery will announce later today at its Upfront presentation to advertisers in New York are two survival series in which clothing is not included. Each episode of Naked and Afraid will strand a new pair of strangers in one of the world’s harshest environments with no food, no water, no tools, and no clothes. “As their extreme survival skills are put to the test for 21 days, each couple must battle the elements, each other, and their own inner weakness to triumph over the terrain and their predicament,” the press release promises.

On Tuesday, June 19, the Bering Sea crab fleet hits dry land.
"It's really hot out today in Breckinridge," Josh Harris tells Zap2it from the latest location for "After the Catch" -- the roundtable companion show to Discovery's Tuesday reality hit "Deadliest Catch" --at the Whale's Tail restaurant in the Colorado ski-resort town, far from any ocean.
"It's probably in the 80s here," adds Harris.
Reminded that's a far cry from the bitter cold and crushing ice suffered by the crab fleet as it sought opilio crab on Alaska's Bering Sea during the first half of 2012, Harris says, "Oh, yes, it is. God bless it. God bless it. That's all I can say about that."
Among those on the new season of "After the Catch" are crab captains Andy and Johnathan Hillstrand of the F/V Time Bandit, Keith Colburn of the F/V Wizard, "Wild Bill" Wichrowski of the F/V Kodiak,...

They show Hillstrand (on left in photo below) with Sig's younger brother, deck boss Edgar Hansen (right), the happy newlyweds (above), and how Hillstrand "decorated" the car they drove away in ...
And, a little later, Time Bandit deckhand Mike Fourtner tweeted this pic from his @MikeFourtner account, showing Sig Hansen performing the ceremony ...
Lastly, even a little later on, here's a pic from Anderson's Twitterstream at @JakeVAnderson, showing the happy couple and one sweet ride ...

The eighth season premiere of Deadliest Catch opens with something viewers rarely see - the fishermen at home. Wise-cracking tough guy Capt. Johnathan Hillstrand of the Time Bandit shares a tearful embrace with his toddler daughter before heading out for another dangerous season of crab fishing. Edgar Hansen watches his kids swinging and laments the quick passage of time. "The lifestyles we lead on these boats, it becomes such a cycle. I can't believe my kids are as old as the are," says Hansen, 41. "I can't believe I'm as old as I am." But the emotional glimpse at the lives...

Discovery’s Deadliest Catch returns on April 10 with a season 8 premiere that also marks the Emmy-winning series’ 100th episode. For the first time, the captains let cameras shoot them at home with their families as they prepared to head back to the Bering Sea. As you’ll see in the promo below, the goodbyes are emotional. Johnathan Hillstrand’s young granddaughter crying will break your heart. (Also, Edgar Hansen is still a poet when it comes to talking about what it means to be a man and a father. Welcome back, Edgar.)

A fourth-generation fisherman, Capt. Sig Hansen thought he'd spend most of his life at sea, particularly in the Bering Sea off Alaska. Little did he know that fate -- and a little Tuesday-night show called "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery Channel -- would eventually land him at a post-premiere party, right behind one of his favorite athletes.
"David Beckham was in there," he says, calling in from Florida where he's on a "Captains' Tour," with fellow "Deadliest" crab-boat captains Andy and Johnathan Hillstrand. "I was right behind him, but I didn't want to bother him. I was thinking, 'Man, I wish I could just grab him and get a picture,' but I chickened out."
The premiere in question was for Disney/Pixar's new animated movie "Cars 2," released to theaters on June 24. Hansen voices the character of Crabby the Boat, a cartoon version of his own boat, the blue-and-white F/V Northwestern.

As fans saw in last Tuesday's episode of Discovery's "Deadliest Catch," deck boss Edgar Hansen didn't show up for opilio-crab season on the F/V Northwestern, leaving former greenhorn Jake Anderson, protege of Capt. Sig Hansen (older brother of Edgar), in charge of the deck.
The Bering Sea in January 2011 didn't exactly let Anderson ease into the position.
"I'll tell you this," he tells Zap2it. "It blew almost every day and night. I'm in charge of the deck. Edgar didn't show up this season. He was mentioning it, so the deck was left up to me. The first day, it blew 50 knots, and the rest is history from there."
The rough weather just kept on coming.
"We took a big wave over the bow," recalls Anderson. "It was blowing 60 knots. It flooded the whole deck, and it flooded the port side."
One of the deckhands got so drenched that...

Deadliest Catch lost its three biggest remaining stars last night when Sig Hansen, Johnathan Hillstrand, and Andy Hillstrand quit the show because the Discovery Channel sued the Hillstrands. But now, Sig's brother suggests the Northwestern captain may stay with the show he's been on since the pilot. Edgar Hansen told Kiro news in Seattle that "It's a possibility, yes. It depends on things that I probably cannot discuss at this time." He doesn't say anything...

Island Aid was one of those festivals that seemed to come with a live soundtrack to suit whatever was going on. The Deadliest Catch crew members in from Alaska were signing autographs as the Little River Band played "Hang On Help is On Its Way." The festival was organized when the nation's longest running Tarpon Fishing Rodeo was canceled after the oil spill shut down fishing. Organizers who pulled the event off in less than two months held their ground as Tropical Storm Bonnie approached. Full gallery Here on New Orleans.com. Speaking of nerves of steel, Discovery's Deadliest Catch Edgar Hansen, co-owner of The Northwestern, and crewmember Jake Anderson signed tee shirts and autographs for hours in a sweltering heat unlike anything they've experienced in Alaska. Both paused a very busy season to support Grand Isle's fishermen through the United...

This is a wonderfully heart-warming story about a boy who lives out the dream of becoming a superhero for a day. Erik Martin, a thirteen year-old boy living with liver cancer, got his wish answered with the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation and hundreds of volunteers in Bellevue and Seattle, Washington.
For Erik, April 29th started like any other, but his day took an extraordinary turn when Spider-Man called on him at school. Spidey was one of the few people on earth to know Erik’s secret identity as a crime-fighting superhero called Electron Boy, who “fights the powers of evil with light”. On this day, Spider-Man needed Electron Boy’s help.
Here was the predicament: Villains named Dr. Dark and Blackout Boy had taken the Seattle Sounders football (that’s soccer, not pigskin) team prisoner in a locker room at Qwest Field.

A 13-year-old with liver cancer had his wish come true Thursday in Seattle with the help of hundreds of people, including Deadliest Catch cast members. Erik Martin became a superhero, and thus needed villains to stop; they were played by Northwestern deck boss Edgar Hansen and deckhand Jake Anderson. The Seattle Times reports that "Erik, who is living with liver cancer, has always wanted to be a superhero" so "the regional chapter of the Make-a-Wish...
