Radio Silence Productions and Project X Entertainment, which were behind the revival of the Scream franchise with Scream (2022) and last year’s Scream VI, have formed a joint financing pact with studio MRC to fund and produce horror and thriller features, Variety reports. As part of this deal, the companies are aiming to produce two or three genre movies every year.
Radio Silence and Project X also collaborated on Ready or Not and the upcoming Universal vampire movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter). As for MRC, that studio has been behind such films as Knives Out, Devil, Baby Driver, The Blackening, Saltburn, American Fiction, and Self Reliance.
Radio Silence members Chad Villella, Tyler Gillett, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin provided the following statement: “To be able to formalize our alliance with Project X and work with a studio in MRC that champions original and fresh films couldn’t be more exciting to us as storytellers.

The filmmaking group known as Radio Silence returns with new vampire horror movie Abigail this April, and if the trailer is any indication, their post-Scream future is looking bright. On that note, Variety reports today that Radio Silence and Project X Entertainment have inked a pact with studio MRC.
Variety notes, “The partnership, announced Wednesday morning, aims to produce two to three features annually. An initial slate of projects is said to be announced soon.”
The focus is said to be on “horror and thriller features,” a genre that Radio Silence has been excelling in ever since they burst onto the scene.
“The new pact further solidifies the relationship between Project X and Radio Silence,” Variety’s report also notes. Radio Silence worked with Project X on the Scream franchise.

After teaming on forthcoming Uni monster thriller Abigail, both of the newest films in the Scream franchise, and Searchlight horror comedy Ready or Not, Project X and Radio Silence have entered into a new joint venture with MRC for the production and financing of modestly budgeted genre features.
Under the pact, the companies will pool their resources, expertise, and creativity, with an eye toward producing 2-3 new films per year. Levering both original scripts and untapped IP, the collaboration will allow the companies to move toward generating inventive and engaging horror and thriller projects, from both up-and-coming and established writers and directors. They’re currently sourcing and developing projects to kickstart the initiative and will be announcing their initial slate soon.

While the rebooted “Scream” franchise may be floundering, the writers and directors of the fifth and sixth “Scream” films are forging a new path thanks to a partnership with production company MRC.
Radio Silence directing team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, plus screenwriter James Vanderbilt’s Project X Entertainment banner (co-founded with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein), have announced a production and financing pact to make two to three genre films a year with MRC. Both Radio Silence and Vanderbilt had stepped away from the “Scream” franchise after the sixth installment and were not attached to the seventh film, which currently does not have a director after Christopher Landon exited following the cast shakeups.
The new collaboration will focus on horror and thriller films and encompass a range of up-and-coming and established writers and directors in the genre space. MRC is the studio most recently behind “Saltburn,” “American Fiction,...

Consider this: you’ve made an acclaimed “Star Wars” sequel, reinvigorated the whodunit genre, scored an Oscar nomination and spawned an unlikely franchise. What do you do next? If you’re Rian Johnson, you turn around and offer a helping hand to young filmmakers coming up behind you, nurturing one of the buzziest movies of the fall in the process: “Fair Play.”
Writer/director Chloe Domont’s debut feature, a steamy erotic thriller about the power dynamics between two young people (Alden Ehrenreich and Phoebe Dynevor) who both work as financial analysts for the same cutthroat hedge fund, is an unmitigated success. After a bidding war at Sundance, the film was snatched up by Netflix for a cool $20 million, and it’s now currently one of the most-watched new titles on the platform following its release earlier this month.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is set to partner with MRC and distribute worldwide Knives Out, the contemporary murder mystery that Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson wrote and is directing. Daniel Craig stars as a detective trying to solve a murder and the killer ensemble cast includes Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Katherine Langford and Don Johnson.
Lionsgate has dated the film for nationwide release on November 27, 2019 for the Thanksgiving holiday corridor.
The film became possible when director Danny Boyle exited James Bond 25. While that film regrouped — Cary Fukunaga is directing it — Craig suddenly had an open slot, and Johnson and his producing partner Ram Bergman took full advantage with an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery that Johnson wrote and was able to squeeze in before he and Bergman drill down on a new trilogy in the Star Wars universe.
