Exclusive: Jesse Garcia (Flamin’ Hot) will star opposite Eva Longoria and George Lopez in the Disney+ film Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
The project marks his return to the franchise, having previously portrayed the character of Dwayne in the Miguel Arteta film of the same name released in 2014.
Garcia will portray Frank Garcia, a happily married vegan chef, and father of Mia, David, and the titular Alexander. Frank clashes with his family when he refuses to modify his recipes to more traditional Mexican food even if it means missing out on opportunities.
From writer Matt Lopez and director Marvin Lemus, Alexander tells the story of 11-year-old Alexander Garcia who thinks he has the worst luck in the world. When his family sets off on a road trip to California, he’s pretty sure disaster awaits at every corner. His anxiety only increases when a family secret is revealed.

Earlier this month, Sony Pictures and 21 Laps – the production company behind the hit Netflix series Stranger Things – came out the winners in a competitive bidding situation over the feature film rights to the horror short film Gnomes, which was directed by Ruwan Suresh Heggelman from a script he crafted with Jasper ten Hoor and Richard Raaphorst. Heggelman will be directing the feature, but Deadline reports that Sony and 21 Laps have hired an established Hollywood screenwriting duo to write the script this time around. Those writers are Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, whose previous credits include Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Hulu thriller No Exit. Barrer also wrote the 2013 horror film Haunt, on which Ferrari served as an executive producer.
In addition to co-writing the script for the short version of Gnomes, Raaphorst also produced the film. He’s on board to produce the feature version alongside 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy,...

From Dutch filmmakers Richard Raaphorst and Ruwan Heggelman, Sony Pictures is turning the short film Gnomes into a feature, and Deadline provides a big update on the project.
Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp) will script the feature film adaptation for Sony Pictures, Deadline reports, with 21 Laps (“Stranger Things”) producing.
Deadline details, “the original film watches as a girl stumbled into the territory of a killer gnome tribe while out on her daily run, finding herself in grave danger after being lured in by its mysterious glowing mushrooms.”
21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine will produce the feature take, with Emily Feher overseeing the project for the company. Raaphorst is also on board as a producer.
Stay tuned for more on Gnomes as we learn it.

One of the most eerie short stories in Stephen King's Night Shift collection, "The Boogeyman" is coming to life on the big screen in a new adaptation from director Rob Savage and screenwriters Scott Beck & Bryan Woods and Mark Heyman, and we now have a look at the official trailer and poster ahead of its June 2nd release!
20th Century Studios and 21 Laps present “The Boogeyman,” a horror-thriller from the mind of best-selling author Stephen King, which opens June 2, 2023, in theaters nationwide. High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

The Boogeyman is made for those of us who remember freaking out as kids over the possibility that monsters not only existed but were hiding in the closet or under the bed. I blame Stephen King for my night terrors, and now another of King’s short stories is about to become fodder for even more nightmares.
20th Century Studios’ new trailer shows a dad trying to convince his kid that there’s nothing to be afraid of. Of course he’s wrong and, of course, it’s the kid who has to pay the price as the target of a terrifying supernatural presence.
The new trailer arrived along with a suitably creepy poster in support of the horror film’s upcoming June 2, 2023 theatrical release.
Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Vivien Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Madison Hu (Bizaardvark), LisaGay Hamilton (Vice), and David Dastmalchian (Dune) star.

The trailer for Stephen King’s “The Boogeyman” has arrived and one thing is for sure, we’re ready to double check for monsters under the bed.
The debut trailer for the new horror film, which debuted during Fox’s broadcast of the NFL NFC championship game, introduces Will (Chris Messina) getting ready to tuck his daughter, Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) into bed, before he checks the closet one last time to make sure no monsters have crept in. “Monster check complete,” Will says before exiting Sawyer’s well-lit room.
Just moments into her slumber, however, Sawyer feels the presence of something sinister in her room — strong enough to grab the attention of her older sister and high schooler, Sadie (Sophie Thatcher), who second guesses her practical nature when she experiences the presence herself.

20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for “The Boogeyman,” a new horror film that will make audiences confront “the thing that comes for your children when you’re not paying attention.”
The studio debuted a fraction of the trailer during Fox’s broadcast of the NFC championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. A full version was subsequently released online Sunday afternoon.
The film is adapted from Stephen King’s 1978 short story of the same name, which had previously been made into a 2005 feature. “Black Swan” screenwriter Mark Heyman and “A Quiet Place” writing duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have taken King’s story into their own hands for the new film.

A film adaptation of the Stephen King short story “The Boogeyman” is moving away from a planned streaming release on Hulu and will now be a theatrical release from 20th Century Studios, an individual with knowledge of the move told IndieWire. It will open June 2, 2023.

The new Evil Dead movie Evil Dead Rise was made for release through the HBO Max streaming service, but when it received high scores at a test screening the decision was made to give it a theatrical release instead. The Boogeyman, the adaptation of a Stephen King short story by Disney arm 20th Century Studios, is getting a theatrical release after initially being made for the company’s streaming service Hulu.
The movie, directed by Rob Savage and produced by 21 Laps, the banner behind Stranger Things, had a surprisingly muscular test screening in December that made studio executives and producers reconsider their release strategy. (They also showed the movie to King, along with the new plans, who gave them a thumbs-up.)
The horror thriller will now open in theaters June 2.
The move also has echoes of what occurred with Smile, the horror movie directed by Parker Finn that was originally intended for Paramount+, but a strong test screening altered its destiny. The movie, made for only 17 million, received a theatrical release from Paramount last fall and became one of the standard-bearers for the latest rise of horror when it grossed over 216 million worldwide.

The tale of the young, star-crossed lovers known as "Romeo & Juliet" has been told and retold for centuries, but Hulu and 20th Century Studios have a whole new perspective to bring to the table. In a comedic twist on William Shakespeare's classic romantic tragedy, the tale of "Romeo & Juliet" is being retold through the lens of Rosaline, the gal Romeo was exclusively dating before he ran into Juliet at a party and completely turned his entire life (and family) upside down. Rosaline is devastated when she learns that her boyfriend has left her for someone new, and goes on a mission to break the two of them up and win back the man of her dreams.
"Rosaline" looks to be taking the anachronistic approach of Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" and inverting it, with classic period garb and set dressings injected with contemporary language and sensibilities.

Everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet, but what about Romeo’s spurned lover, Rosaline? She’s been pushed to the side and forgotten about…until now. The new trailer for 20th Century Studios’ Rosaline tells the story of Romeo and Juliet from Rosaline’s point of view.
The trailer shows poor Rosaline is upset that her boyfriend is using the same lovely words to woo Juliet that he used on her just three days prior. Rosaline’s the one who’s supposed to be Romeo’s great love and future wife, yet Romeo doesn’t seem to care one iota that he’s so easily replaced her with her very own cousin. Damn the man.
Emmy Award nominee Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick) stars as the titular character and serves as an executive producer. The cast also includes Sean Teale (Little Voice) as Dario, Minnie Driver (Speechless) as The Nurse,...

“Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” hasn’t chronicled many happy endings lately, but managed to celebrate a big win on Wednesday night’s episode.
A year ago, “Full Frontal” examined the national epidemic of rape kit backlogs – in which physical evidence from rapes are sitting on shelves across the country, waiting for years to be investigated by police. In Georgia, a bill was recently passed to change that – but it didn’t come easy.
Last year’s story noted how Georgia’s state House had passed an earlier bill to mandate rape kits be prosecuted – but that one state Senator, Renee Unterman, was blocking a similar bill. Eventually, Georgia State Rep. Scott Holcomb, a Democrat, partnered with House Speaker David Ralston, a Republican, to find a way to trigger the bill to make it to the floor of the State Senate.
In a nail-biting climax, the bill was approved in...
