The boys are back in action! It’s been nearly a decade since the release of the last film in Sylvester Stallone’s action franchise, but Expend4bles has finally arrived. The long-awaited action sequel took in $750,000 in previews on Thursday, with the film looking to open with around $15 million.
The Expend4bles cast features a mix of familiar faces, with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture all returning, as well as a few newbies, including Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. “Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table,” reads the official synopsis. “But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to...

The Expendables return for a fourth instalment in the former-action-heroes-blowing-things-up franchise. This time around, the law of diminishing returns is in full effect – the bigger names from the previous films are conspicuous by their absence, the script is terrible even by the standards of the first three movies and the film largely wastes its two most exciting new cast members.

Sequels, and sequels of sequels, have trouble differentiating themselves from their brethren from time to time. But Expendables 4, indisputably takes the cake for recycling previously used material in a not exactly fresh context. At least the final third — and maybe more — of this jokey, fight-filled and increasingly effects-driven last hurrah is nearly a twin brother to the climactic stretch of last month’s waterlogged Jason Statham extravaganza Meg 2: The Trench, wherein the rugged Brit takes on — and once again prevails over — a sea monster that makes Moby Dick look like a backyard swimming pool pet. It really is a shameless “borrowing” that’s impossible to ignore if you’ve seen Meg 2, as the tireless former male model with perfectly maintained facial stubble once again earns his status as master of the seven seas.

The first thing you need to know about “Expendables 4” is that its studio somehow made the grating decision to fashion its title as “Expend4ble.” It’s a needless spelling challenge for a dull and vulgar flick with a lot of empty-calories muscle, but little-to-no skill or fun to spare. The second thing you need to know is, that insertion of “4” is, unfortunately, just about the most clever thing the fourth installment of this star-studded action series has to offer.
There is always a lot of touchiness out there in defense of such movies, usually from those who guard one’s right to “shut one’s brain off and just enjoy.” But as the “John Wick” franchise and the entirety of the “Mission: Impossible” series continue to prove time and time again, there is indeed a stylish and cinematic way to pull off fun and thoroughly entertaining action fare...

For 4n utterly braindead and 4rtlessly cr4fted movie th4t feels like 4 fe4ture-length Fmv cut-scene from 4 Sega CD g4me, “Expend4bles” would be a lot more p4inful if not for the fact that it’s so 4t pe4ce with its gener4l shittiness. Don’t get me wrong, the creative and aesthetic indifference behind this long-gestating action sequel — which arrives nine years after “Expendables 3,” but still well before people had time to get nostalgic for this already reheated ’80s revival junk — is remarkable even by the standards of a series that has always prided itself on being cinema’s most glorified direct-to-video project, the “Avengers” of Cialis.

In fact, the entire marketing gimmick for the movie is that it’s rated “R” and bloody-as-hell, with the trailer humorously spotlighting tweets from fans who were begging for it.
The Expendables 4 has been rated “R” by the MPA for “Strong/bloody violence throughout, language, and sexual material,” all of which is on display in today’s official trailer.

The official trailer for Expendables 4, written as Expend4bles – looks great in print, sounds weird if you say it as it’s spelled – shows Jason Statham and Megan Fox getting physical while the tagline declares: “Some relationships are built to last and some relationships are…Expendable.” The two-minute trailer then shows action fans a montage of select members of the ensemble cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Curtis 50 Cent Jackson, Dolph Lundgren, and Andy Garcia.
Directed by Scott Waugh, the fourth film of the action franchise also stars Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, Jacob Scipio, and Levy Tran.
Kurt Wimmer, Tad Daggerhart, and Max Adams wrote the screenplay, based on characters created by David Callaham. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Robert Van Norden, Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, Spenser Cohen, Anna Halberg, and Stephen Paul executive produce. After unveiling a new title and poster for the fourth film in the action-packed Expendables franchise, The Expend4bles trailer is here to turn up the heat and blow your socks off with brutal combat, explosions, and new members of an elite team of badasses.
In The Expend4bles trailer, Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas reunites with Megan Fox’s character, who is as lethal and clever as any Expendable we’ve encountered throughout the series. After a quick tumble and some bedroom gymnastics, Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross informs Christmas it’s time to gear up and rejoin the team for another mission. During a debrief, the Expendables learn a group of terrorists has taken possession of nuclear missiles on a cargo ship off the coast. If the weapons detonate, the aftermath will trigger World War III.

★☆☆☆☆ During the end titles of Precious Cargo we get a close up of some dog muck. It would be nice to think this was a bit of meta-humour or a moment of candid self-awareness from first time director Max Adams, but unfortunately his risible, derivative heist movie has the audacity to actually think it's quite good. Playing like a stuntman's show reel - sans narrative coherence - the only thing more annoying than the general ineptness, predictable story and Bruce Willis, is the film's smug air of self-satisfaction as it seeks to subvert tropes it barely manages to achieve.

It’s fair to say Bruce Willis has taken his foot off the gas a bit in recent years. Who can blame him? Stars fade, and now everyone’s a 24/7 commentator it’s hard to keep working into advanced age, when the scripts landing on the mat require you to acknowledge the limitations of your age and play up to them, and even dip into the straight-to-digital-download market, without some accusing you of trashing your legacy.
People feel this sense of regret more keenly with Robert De Niro, who had further to fall after he stopped trying in 2002, but he at least continues to play the first or second lead, putting his name to the project and living or dying by it. Willis increasingly takes on roles that seem to require little time investment, and mails it in contentedly.

I have a love/hate relationship with Bruce Willis these days. On the one hand he stars in films I love such as the Red, G.I. Joe and The Expendables; and on the other he appears in direct to market dross like The Prince, Set-Up and Vice. Now don’t get me wrong, some of the direct to DVD titles Willis has appeared in are pretty good, Fire With Fire for example, but he’s been batting way below average on the Dtv front recently.

From The Prince to Rock the Kasbah and (almost) everything in between, the past few years haven’t been kind to Bruce Willis’ track record, and today’s debut trailer for by-the-numbers heist drama Precious Cargo isn’t the reverse of fortune we secretly hoped it would be.
Headlining Max Adams’ actioner as Eddie, a merciless crime boss with a chip on his shoulder, Willis switches gears to play the big bad in Precious Cargo, luring Mark-Paul Gosselaar of Saved By the Bell fame into a daring escapade in order to secure a bounty of priceless gems.
Part hostage drama, part heist thriller, and all very familiar, Precious Cargo simply screams straight-to-dvd, and without Bruce Willis’ name on the masthead we find it difficult to imagine Adams’ generic feature would secure a theatrical release.
Nevertheless, it’s on course for mid-April, and the official synopsis is as follows:

"Sometimes things just don't work out." Lionsgate has debuted a trailer for the action-packed heist thriller Precious Cargo, directed by Max Adams, starring Bruce Willis as the villain. He plays a crime boss who hires a thief but then double crosses him and then gets tangled up in a big showdown. There's lots of action, it looks pretty good if you just want to see some solid action, but I'm not sure about the rest of it. The full cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Claire Forlani, John Brotherton, Lydia Hull, Daniel Bernhardt, Ashley Kirk and Nick Loeb. I hope this is actually as fun as the trailer makes it look. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Max Adams' Precious Cargo, found on IGN's YouTube: After a botched heist, Eddie (Bruce Willis), a murderous crime boss, hunts down the seductive thief Karen (Claire Forlani) who failed him. With the upcoming action flick "Precious Cargo," we are witnessing one of two things: either the continual slide of Bruce Willis into movies that would be straight-to-dvd if his name wasn't Bruce Willis, or, the career resurrection of "Saved By The Bell" star Mark-Paul Gosselaar (who last year, had a role in "Heist," a movie starring Robert De Niro that would have been straight-to-dvd if it didn't have Robert De Niro in it). Exactly ten years ago, Bruce Willis toplined Florent Emilio Siri’s low-key action thrill ride Hostage, playing a high-skilled Lapd agent who helped parlay a tense situation that witnessed a group of deadly terrorists infiltrate a family home. A decade on and Willis is now on the other end of the negotiations, with today’s first trailer for Extraction revealing the actor as a CIA agent who’s been kidnapped after the agency leaves him high and dry.
And so, it’s a clandestine act that sees his son, played by Kellan Lutz, spring into action in order to save him from the terrorist group. Directed by Steven C.
