Brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II, he was commander of the German Empire's East Asia Squadron beginning in 1899, and of its High Seas Fleet from 1906 to 1909. He was Grand Admiral in command of the Baltic Fleet during World War I.
His first name of Albert was in memory of his grandfather Prince Albert (the husband of Queen Victoria.) Princess Victoria was pregnant with Heinrich when her father died and named her son after the father she had adored.
