An endangered gorilla has been born at the Philadelphia Zoo following an emergency delivery that required the help of both veterinarians and human doctors.
Kira, a 17-year-old western lowland gorilla who was pregnant for the first time, began showing signs that she was in labor on Thursday, the zoo said in a statement announcing the birth. However, concern for the animal’s well-being grew when the baby had still not been delivered the following day.

Britain has a long, long history of staging comic conventions. The first one was held in a Birmingham hotel in 1968 which had a young Alan Moore as a guest. The success of the event paved the way for overseas guests to jump across the pond such as Frank Miller, Jim Steranko, and the late Gil Kane and appear at various events in the country.
As Ukcac became a well known convention amongst fans and creators across Britain. Held at various parts of the country, it was the stomping ground of various British creators, such guests included Will Eisner and John Buscema it gained recognition as convention organisers staged the prestigious Eagle Awards, which many Bronze age enthusiasts will recall Uncanny X-Men and Master of Kung Fu winning best dramatic comic book.

Channel 4 has given the go ahead to a new original comedy drama series.
Cut is penned by new writer DC Moore and focuses on the lives of six "highly dysfunctional" civil servants as they are forced to move from London to Northampton.
Following public sector cuts, thirtysomething Katherine meets her new workmates who must also adjust to their new lives.
Danny and Angela are friends who constantly go on drinking binges, despite Danny's co-worker's beliefs that he is a strict muslim, while mid-20s Jenny is described as "far too eager for her own good".
The group is rounded off by naive and clueless Nathanial and head of Human Resources Jefferies, who was responsible for the relocation but finds herself on the receiving end of her own cuts.
Cuts will be executive produced by Murray Ferguson and Andy Baker for Clerkenwell Films.

Viacom International Media Networks has announced multi-camera sitcom development projects Operation Slut and Medics for Comedy Central.
An agreement has been signed with Tom Edge to adapt Operation Slut, while a pilot for Medics has been green lit to shoot next month.
"Medics is a laugh-out-loud sitcom that perfectly combines adolescent humour with fast-paced drama while Operation Slut is a hilarious satire of modern-day relationships - both of which sit perfectly within our channel portfolio," said by Jill Offman, managing director of Comedy Central UK and senior vice president of international content at Comedy Central.
Operation Slut was originally written by Taii K. Austin (Underemployed, Nurse Jackie, Scrubs, Ugly Betty) and will be adapted by British writer Edge (Pramface, Threesome, The Midnight Beast) for international broadcast.
The show is about 30-year-old marriage-focused "neurotic do-gooder" Ivy who on being proposed to is not ready to settle down, and instead embarks on...

On the eve of Independence Day here in the Us, WWE gave us there Stars & Stripes editions of Nxt and the Main Event. The two-hour block showcase some Real Americans battling for pride in their country and chasing the American dream of championships and briefcases. As always, let’s begin with the Main Event.
We begin the night’s festivities by introducing tonight’s announce team the returning son of the “American Dream” Cody Rhodes and Josh Matthews. Another solid showing from Rhodes in the booth. Especially in the opening match of the night featuring his best friend Damien Sandow as he goes against Christian.
Christian makes his entrance first to a mixed reaction as Sandow comes out cutting a promo calling his opponent a troglodyte. Sandow also added a quote from a great man, Damien Sandow saying, “in the Valley of the Stupid, the half-wit is king”. The enlightened...

This week's geek-worthy crowdfunding projects include a Nes game collecting road trip, a 3D platformer, and two great-looking films...
It's great to see so many worthy crowdfunding ideas get the cash they need. This weekly post's only been going for a short while, but most of the projects we've covered in previous weeks have already secured funding, and the creators behind them are therefore free to get on with the hard bit: seeing their idea through to completion.
Steve Sullivan's documentary about the late entertainer Chris Sievey and his alter-ego Frank Sidebottom has already doubled its goal of £20,000, and its campaign may just have ended as you read this. Andy Baker's eye-catching cowboy comic The Good, The Bad And The Monkey broke through its goal of £10,000.
We're certainly not trying to take credit for their success - instead, we're just glad to see such great projects flourish.

Here's this week's batch of worthy, geek-friendly crowdfunding projects that have caught our eye this week...
The likes of Zach Braff and Peter Molyneux may grab headlines with their Kickstarter campaigns (not to mention no small amount of controversy), but they're just the tip of the crowdfunding iceberg. Which is why we're bringing you this weekly post, which aims to highlight some of the geek-friendly crowdfunding projects we've stumbled upon during our caffeine-fuelled daily trawls around the internet.
This week, we've found a low-budget science fiction project with some potentially fantastic visuals, a point-and-click adventure game inspired by such lyrical Japanese cultural touchstones as Ico and My Neighbour Totoro, and a quirky comic book about a group of simian outlaws...
