What You Need To Know About All-Star Superman, One Of The Key Comics Behind James Gunn's DC Universe
Ever since Warner Bros Discovery hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to restart their slate of DC films, fans have been debating what the new status quo might look like. Will these new movies be in the vein of "The Suicide Squad" or "Peacemaker," witty and sentimental action blockbusters with an affinity for the grotesque? Or will Gunn rein in his style and produce films more in line with the company's recent output? Gunn gave audiences a clue in a January press conference, where he revealed the first big film of his reign would be "Superman: Legacy." Rather than another origin story, it was teased as "Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing."
My first instinct reading that synopsis is to draw a connection to "Superman Smashes the Klan," Gene Luen Yang's fantastic 2019 limited series that borrows from the radio play "Clan of the Fiery Cross." The...

Dogs are the best companions for humans, especially when they can shoot lasers from their irresistible eyes. Krypto, the doggie of Connor Kent (Joshua Orpin), aka Super Boy, forged from the DNA of Lex Luther and Clark Kent, from "Titans" has to be the cutest pet there is in the DC Universe, adding some fluff to the brooding Titans. He sits and wags his tail proudly among a pantheon of superhero pet sidekicks from DC to Marvel.
One of the dog stars that plays Krypto goes by the name of "Pepsi." And if his appearance in the recent season 4 footage indicates, we're going to get more Pepsi, his loyalty to Connor Kent, and hopefully his laser eyes. When it comes to television and films, dogs can be a hot mess to film with especially in the case of Coco as Sarii in "Prey." But the cuddliness of a canine can...

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Ben Thompson on Wbgr-fm on July 29th, reviewing “DC League of Super-Pets,” an animated comedy/adventure featuring Krypto the Super Dog, opening in theaters beginning July 29th.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
This is the story of Superman’s dog Krypto (voice of Dwayne Johnson) and his fear that he’ll lose his best friend Supes (John Krasinski) in anticipation of his engagement to Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde). This emotion gets put on the back burner when Lex Luther (Marc Maron) unleashes Orange Kryptonite to some unsuspecting shelter animals, and they all gain super powers. One of them, Lulu the Guinea Pig (Kate McKinnon), launches Luthor’s evil plan and manages to capture all of the Justice League. It’s up to Krypto, shelter dog Ace (Kevin Hart), Squirrel Chip (Diego Luna), Piggy Pb (Vanessa Bayer) and Turtle Merton (Natasha Lyonne) to save the day.

Having shaped the shared motion picture universe for nearly half a decade – on a path that Warner Bros. is no longer interested in pursuing, mind you – Zack Snyder’s departure from the Dceu, whether he was relieved of his duties or withdrew voluntarily, has seemingly forced the founding father to purge his cinematic blueprint for thirteenth highest-grossing film franchise online as some sort of coping mechanism.
As a result, you can forgive us for having grown accustomed to the former head honcho of DC’s extended universe and his social media hi-jinks. Nevertheless, it would appear that now another major player in Snyder’s Dceu, Larry Fong, who served as cinematographer on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, will be a regular contributor to the superhero group chat going forward.

Joaquin Phoenix is adding some mystery to the report that he’ll be starring as the Joker in Todd Phillips’ standalone movie for Warner Bros. Variety reported earlier this month that Phoenix was the top choice for the role and that he was in talks to star as the beloved comic book villain, following previous turns by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto. However, Phoenix appears clueless about the report in a new video interview with French publication Allocine (via The Playlist).
When asked to comment on the Joker rumor, Phoenix replied: “What movie about the Joker?” The reporter tried to explain a bit of the rumor to Phoenix, and the actor admitted it “sounds amazing.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Phoenix said of the standalone Joker movie. “Don’t be sorry.”

Joaquin Phoenix is getting ready to follow in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto by playing the next iteration of The Joker on the big screen. Variety reports that “The Master” actor is circling the role for Todd Phillips’ upcoming standalone movie. Negotiations have not taken place yet, but Phillips tells Variety that Phoenix is the top choice for the job and sources reportedly say he’s agreed to the role.
Phillips, best known as the director of “The Hangover” trilogy, is co-writing and directing the movie, which is a part of the DC Extended Universe that includes films like “Justice League” and “Wonder Woman.” The standalone Joker film is expected to be a prequel of sorts that finds the character rising through the criminal underworld to become a mob king. Leonardo DiCaprio was originally a top choice for the role but that didn’t pan out.
