Mitsuda Takuya is a mangaka from Fukuyama City. He has published his works primarily in Shogakukan's manga magazine, Shounen Sunday. He is best known for his long-running baseball manga, MAJOR," for which he won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996 in the shounen category. He apprenticed under Hidenori Hara alongside Shinobu Inokuma, and his former assistants include Shun Matsuena and for two days Koji Kumeta. Mitsuda debuted in 1982, winning the Shogakukan Newcomers Award for "Banyuu". In 1988, he serialized "Kenta Yarimasu!" with volleyball in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan). Sakamidai High School, which is the stage of the work, is modeled after Mitsuda's graduate school, Fukuyama Seiyukikan High School in Hiroshima Prefecture, and traces of that can be seen everywhere. He ran the serial until 1994. In 1994, the baseball manga Major was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. It ended in 2010, and the book has reached a total of 78 volumes. This was the record for the most number of volumes in the history of Shonen Sunday Comics until it was later overtaken by Detective Conan. In 2011, he serialized "Buyuden" about boxing in "Weekly Shonen Sunday". However, the series ended in January 2014, when it was discontinued. Currently, in "Weekly Shonen Sunday", the sequel "MAJOR 2nd" is being serialized, in which the main character is Daigo, the son of Goro, the main character of "MAJOR". In addition, from 2018 issue 53 to 2019 issue 20, it was on a long hiatus due to poor physical condition. From the 46th issue in 2021 to the 48th issue in 2022, it was put on a long hiatus again due to poor physical condition.
