Daniel Radcliffe began acting when he was 6 years old, playing a monkey in a school play. By the time he was 12, he was an international movie star, taking on the role of Harry Potter in a series of film adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s books. He went on to portray everything from a World War I soldier killed in battle to a talking corpse with digestive issues to a political prisoner. Just take a look at his impressive body of work.

Meet Alex Russell, the 29-year-old Australian actor whose breakthrough role in 2012’s inventive found-footage sci-fi superhero thriller, Chronicle, has paid off in spades. Five years after the release of the film, the not-so newcomer is preparing for the simultaneous release of three projects: real-life, big-screen adaptations Jungle, opposite Daniel Radcliffe, and Only the Brave, with Miles Teller and Josh Brolin, along with the upcoming premiere of the CBS drama, S.W.A.T., starring Shemar Moore.
It’s been a nonstop ride for the actor ever since. Before 2017 rolled around, Russell -- whose first credited role came just seven years ago -- had a whirlwind year filming four movies back-to-back, taking him from Los Angeles to Colombia to Mexico to the Gold Coast with a quick 24-hour respite in between in Nashville to reunite with his love, Goliath star Diana Hopper, for a wedding.
The past several months, though, Russell has called Southern California home while he’s been in production...

In the years since hanging up his quidditch broom, Daniel Radcliffe has blazed a surprisingly adventurous trail, devoting himself to risky projects that stray far from the beaten path, some of them quite literally. For the second time in the last 18 months, the former “Harry Potter” star has wandered off into the wilderness, following the miraculously inventive “Swiss Army Man” with a true-life survival story about a restless Israeli kid who wound up stranded by himself in an uncharted stretch of the Amazon. And while “Jungle” glaringly lacks the flair and depth of feeling that defined Radcliffe’s previous stroll through the great outdoors, it’s somehow even more disgusting than “Swiss Army Man,” a movie in which the actor plays a corpse whose farts are so explosive that they propel his body across the surface of the ocean like a jet ski.

Once an actor lands that iconic role that catapults him or her to mainstream stardom, few are ever able to truly escape its shadow. Yet, despite playing The Boy Who Lived in eight films over the course of a decade, former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has all but left Hogwart’s behind. In just a few short years, Radcliffe’s work in offbeat — to put it mildly — releases like Swiss Army Man and Horns has proven his willingness to take on challenging projects and provides sufficient evidence that he’s much more than the bespectacled child who won the world’s heart way back in 2001. Now, his latest film, Jungle, continues that string of intriguing and divisive choices.
Based on a true story, the movie follows Yossi Ghinsberg (Radcliffe) and a pair of globe-trotting friends (Joel Jackson and Alex Russell) as they embark on a journey through the Bolivian jungle.

Daniel Radcliffe stars in Jungle, a true story of survival. But is it any good?
Daniel Radcliffe is doing an accent. That’s the first thing that grabs your attention in Jungle, which opens with the brave British actor intoning an opening narration over a blank screen. He introduces the themes of adventure and exploration, explaining why his character will venture into the Amazon rainforest a bit later on.
It’s not the most remarkable opening, but it’ll do. And that same sentiment could sum up the film that follows. Jungle is another survival film about a young man who’s way out of his depth. Straight of the gate, it’s got a fair bit to prove if it wants to stand out from the pack.
The film’s ‘based on a true story’ tag is its Usp. Radcliffe plays the real-life Israeli explorer Yossi Ghinsberg, who, at...

This Friday, Momentum Pictures is set to release Jungle, the latest from Greg McLean (The Belko Experiment, Wolf Creek 1 and 2), which tells the real-life story of Yossi Ghinsberg (played by Daniel Radcliffe), who traveled to the Amazon rainforest during the 1980s, and had to contend with the brutal dangers lurking all around him and his group of fellow travelers as they made their way through the unforgiving titular locale. Shortly after surviving his ordeal, Ghinsberg wrote a book about his experiences, which is also entitled Jungle, and McLean discussed in a recent interview with Daily Dead how he first discovered the autobiographical tale and knew that he needed to adapt it for the big screen.
McLean also chatted about what made Daniel Radcliffe perfect to portray Jungle’s hero, the challenges they all faced during the ambitious shoot, and more. Look for Jungle in theaters and on VOD on Friday,...

Post-Potter life has been fairly kind to Daniel Radcliffe.
From battling The Woman in Black to infiltrating a neo-Nazi sect in Imperium, not to mention the wholly irreverent Swiss Army Man, the former Boy Who Lived has consistently strayed outside his comfort zone in order to approach weird, wonderful, and often compelling roles. And Jungle is yet another quirky feather in Radcliffe’s hat.
Coming by way of horror veteran Greg McLean, who is perhaps best known for directing Wolf Creek, Rogue, and this year’s Battle Royale clone, The Belko Experiment, Jungle is the story of 22-year-old Israeli backpacker Yossi Ghinsberg. Flanked by his two best friends, Yossi embarks on what he believes will be the adventure of a lifetime, but the truth is much, much more. What follows is an intense fight for survival, and today’s newly-released clip documents a scene on the Jungle rapids.

"The only guy who knows where we are, what we're going to do, and he just walked away!" Momentum Pictures has debuted a new official trailer for the survival thriller titled Jungle, starring Daniel Radcliffe as an adventurous Israeli backpacker who gets lots for three weeks in the Amazon jungle. This is based on the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg (and his book) about an incredible endurance test he had to go through to survive. This starts out similar to the first trailer, but the second half is pretty dizzying, and a tiny reference for how brutal it is to survive in these conditions. In addition to Radcliffe the cast includes Alex Russell, Joel Jackson and Thomas Kretschmann. I'm curious to check this out, it seems intense. Plus it might be an oddly perfect double feature with Radcliffe's wacky forest survival comedy Swiss Army Man. Dive in. Here's the new...

Damn, Daniel Radcliffe goes to the extreme in his upcoming adventure survival thriller Jungle, which looks great! The movie is based on the real-life events of Yossi Ghinsberg, an Israeli backpacker who is played by Radcliffe. He set off on a journey from the Bolivian city of La Paz, on what was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime with two of his friends.
Leading the way into the uncharted Amazon was an Austrian expat named Karl Ruprechter, who had met the friends just days before and claimed to be familiar with the region. But their dream trip soon turned into a wilderness nightmare from which not all of the men returned.
The film is based on Ghinsberg’s book which details the hellish journey. When talking to EW last year about the film Radcliffe said:

The last time we saw Daniel Radcliffe out in the wild, he was farting his way through “Swiss Army Man.” In “Jungle,” however, things get a bit more real in this survival tale, that’s based on a true story.
Directed by Greg Mclean (“Wolf Creek,” “The Belko Experiment“), the film is based on the memoir by Yossi Ghinsberg, and follows a young man who takes a bold adventure in the rainforest, but makes the fatal mistake of trusting the wrong man.

The Wolf Creek director’s take on a real-life tale of backpackers stranded in the wilderness feels less like a true story and more like Ozploitation-goes-tropical
The last time Daniel Radcliffe was lost in the wilderness, he had a magical erection that doubled as a compass and a case of flatulence so extreme he became a fart-powered human jetski. Also, he was dead. This was last year’s notorious black comedy Swiss Army Man, Aka the “farting corpse movie”, Aka “the artist formerly known as Harry Potter is getting older and weirder and more indie”.
Going into Radcliffe’s new film, the survival drama Jungle (from Wolf Creek director Greg McLean), I wondered whether it could possibly be interpreted as a prequel, detailing events leading up to the metamorphosis of Radcliffe from fledgling Hogwarts student to gaseous art-film carcass. Admittedly, it seemed unlikely the story would end with the protagonist dying,...

For a young actor to shake off the shackles of a role that made him a global superstar is not easy, but Radcliffe’s career goes from strength to strength as he continues to carve out a life away from Harry Potter. The last time Daniel Radcliffe got stranded in the wilderness, he took on the form of a flatulent corpse in Swiss Army Man. Now Radcliffe is braving the elements yet again, with more life and less gas, in Jungle, from Wolf Creek and The Belko Experiment director Greg McLean.
Set in the 1980s and based on a true story, Jungle finds Radcliffe playing Israeli backpacker Yossi Ghinsberg, who gets separated from his friends after a rafting accident deep in the Bolivian jungle and has to struggle to find his way back to civilization. The film also stars Alex Russell, Joel Jackson and Thomas Kretschmann.
“t’s an incredible survival story,” said McLean, “and incredibly emotional and spiritual because of what he goes through, what he loses and what he discovers. It’s an amazing story. And Daniel’s performance is extraordinary.”

"This is the last frontier on Earth. The jungle shows us what we really are." An official trailer has debuted for a new survival thriller titled Jungle, based on the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg (and his book), who got lost in the Amazon rainforests with a few of his friends. This is the next film from Australian director Greg McLean, who also directed the action horror The Belko Experiment in theaters earlier this year and the Wolf Creek films. Daniel Radcliffe stars as Yossi, along with a cast including Alex Russell, Joel Jackson and Thomas Kretschmann. This looks crazy intense and brutal, which is expected for a survival movie, but I'm impressed by the attention to detail and beauty of the Amazon jungle that McLean has captured. “Have you ever been in the jungle?” Radcliffe is asked in the opening moments; the question seems to stir something him, and so he sets off into the Amazon alongside two friends, guided by the man who first posed the question (Thomas Kretschmann). Casting news continues to seep out from the ongoing Berlin Film Festival, and the latest nugget has revealed that Victor Frankenstein star Daniel Radcliffe will make tracks to the Amazon for Greg McLean’s new thriller, Jungle.
Lifting inspiration from Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir about his own trek in the South American forest, McLean’s feature film will chronicle his gruelling journey through the lush wilderness in what is being pitched as a psychological thriller.

The title alone ought to give you an indication of the trials and tribulations that the explorer faced when cast astray in the Amazonian jungle. Seemingly tired of pulling the “buffer face” for Ee, Footloose star Kevin Bacon has signed on to topline Greg McLean’s Jungle — an upcoming survival tale set in the unforgiving Amazon rainforest circa 1981.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, who state that the 56-year old star will indeed reunite with the director, following the pair’s work on the soon-to-be-released horror thriller, 6 Miranda Drive.
Taking inspiration from the real-life account of adventure-seeker Yossi Ghinsberg, Jungle will follow Bacon’s protagonist who finds himself lost in more tropical regions of Bolivia. With only himself for company, the film will chart his extraordinary story as he fights for survival in the Amazon rainforest for a full three weeks.
