A cellphone video of the accident on the set of the Eddie Murphy film “The Pickup” reveals that an SUV and truck can be seen flipping over after veering off road.
The New York Times obtained the footage and shared it Wednesday after news broke that the accident on the set of the Amazon MGM Studios film hospitalized two people and injured several others. The New York Times now says at least half a dozen people who were inside the two cars were taken to the hospital. One remains hospitalized Wednesday after sustaining a back injury.
In the video (via Nyt), you can see an armored truck pulling up alongside an SUV and then swerving into it, leading the cars to drive off the road and into grass. But the armored truck then rolls on top of the SUV, with both vehicles fully flipping before landing upright. The video concludes...

True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Plot: A law school-bound University grad (Toby Wallace) decides to spend his summer working with his fisherman half-brother (Ben Foster) in the hopes of finding adventure. But, he soon realizes that despite the rewarding work, you can only push things so far, as debts pile up and the brothers flirt with organized crime.
Review: You can understand where Brian Helgeland’s Finestkind is going from the start. As soon as fresh-faced Charlie (Toby Wallace) convinces his taciturn older half-brother, Tom (Ben Foster), to let him join his crew of hard-living fishermen, you know it’s not going to end with a pat on the back for a job well done. This is especially true once he lays eyes on a heartbreaking local girl, Mabel (Jenna Ortega), who he spies doing a drug deal with a crew member. Yet, even though nothing terribly surprising happens over the two-hour running time, it...

While many organizations in Hollywood and beyond seem to have moved on from their commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, Amazon MGM Studios’ Customer and Content Deia team is continuing to push forward.

Hollywood is overflowing with stories about films that took years of blood, sweat and tears to bring to the screen. Brian Helgeland’s Finestkind represents one of the longest kinds.
The Oscar-winning screenwriter of Mystic River and veteran director of such films as Legend, 42, A Knight’s Tale and Payback finished the script when he was 28. He’s now 62. “The joke is that I wrote it before Toby Wallace and Jenna Ortega were born and Ben Foster was 10 years old. It’s very strange, but everything happens for a reason. I just had to wait for this whole cast to grow up so I could cast them,” he explained at the film’s West Hollywood premiere on Tuesday referring to his actors who star opposite Tommy Lee Jones, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Aaron Stanford, Scotty Tovar, Tim Daly, Lolita Davidovich and Clayne Crawford.

"You live. You die. It's the inbetween that counts." Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for a fishing industry crime thriller called Finestkind, the latest from writer / filmmaker Brian Helgeland. This premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last month, and is being released directly on streaming on Paramount+ in December this year. Ben Foster, Toby Wallace, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jenna Ortega star in this film about a crew of fishermen who tread dangerous waters after their debts start piling up. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. With another brilliantly imposing performance by Jones, the film also reveals itself to be a story about fathers who can’t always be the best examples for their sons. The full cast includes Ismael Cruz Cordova, Aaron Stanford, Scotty Tovar,...

We’ve got dadcore porn here. If you’re a father and you’ve ever wondered if you led your son astray, you could live vicariously through Ray Eldridge (Tommy Lee Jones) and Dennis Sykes (Tim Daly) and know you can always come through at the eleventh hour. Because even though the motto at the heart of Brian Helgeland’s Finestkind is that the time between birth and death is what truly matters, the film reminds us you can actually right all your wrongs from that in-between with a final expression of love. Apology, hug, pile of cash, bullet, or all the above.
It’s funny that Helgeland joked before the screening that this should have been his first film since he knew its world best (he was a commercial fisherman before stumbling upon a book that taught him film schools existed) because it’s all over the place in tone,...

For an hour, Finestkind is the kind of movie they don’t make any more, and just when you’re starting to adapt to its gentle, circadian rhythms (which is about halfway through), it becomes the kind of movie they make all the time. Though it just about works, it’s a curious hybrid of emotional felladrama and gangster realism, something writer Brian Helgeland has essayed before, notably with his script for Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River. A few years back, this could have been a Malpaso production too, and it’s not hard to imagine Eastwood in the role played here by Tommy Lee Jones, an awards-friendly supporting role that gives the veteran actor his very own mini-Gran Torino.

Fantasy dramas made a surprisingly strong showing in this year’s Emmy nominations, with several titles scoring in the top series categories.
HBO’s House of the Dragon and The Last of Us and Disney+’s Andor all landed a nomination for outstanding drama series, Netflix’s Wednesday was nominated for outstanding comedy series, and Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi earned a nomination for outstanding limited series.
It’s almost certainly unprecedented for five fantasy titles to get Emmy nominations in the outstanding series categories.
On the acting side, too, a few of the show’s stars broke through (though not as many as fans had hoped): The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey was nominated for best actress in a drama, and her co-lead Pedro Pascal was nominated for best actor. Jenna Ortega was nominated for best actress in a comedy. Also, Elisabeth Moss was honored for Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

A version of this story about director the music of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” first ran in the Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine
Led Zeppelin famously invoked J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” series in several hit songs (“Ramble On” and “Misty Mountain Hop” among them), and if you’re looking for the right composer to reimagine Middle-earth for a multiyear Amazon Prime series adaptation, you go right to the ultimate rock-and-roll composer: Bear McCreary.
But don’t let the long dark hair and drummer vibe fool you, as McCreary can craft a dramatic, haunting score for just about any genre there is. “Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, period pieces, these are all things that inspire me and get me out of bed,” says McCreary with a noticeable jolt of energy. “And “The Lord of the Rings” is the godfather of so much of that.

Speaking at Monte-Carlo Television Festival Sunday, cast members from the fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” expressed their feelings about the racist trolls who objected to the Prime Video show’s diverse and inclusive casting when it first launched.
Last month, Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays the Elven warrior Arondir, told Variety that Prime Video provided an on-set therapist to help the actors deal with the racist backlash against its casting. He revealed it wasn’t just attacks on social media. “My phone got hacked. I had bank account attempts of being hacked. My PayPal got hacked. My friends got messages. I got death threats. I got things mailed to me. People found out my address. It was a lot of that,” Córdova recalled.
Asked by Variety at Monte-Carlo Television Festival on Sunday about how they viewed the racist trolls, the cast differed slightly in their response.

Morfydd Clark and Ismael Cruz Córdova spent months auditioning for Prime Video‘s fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Due to the lengthy pre-production and filming process, it was another year before they actually filmed those scenes. While the wait was painstaking, the time between booking the roles and that first slate was a liberating character development process for both of the stars — and as shown in Season 1, stars, they are. There was already character detail for Galadriel and Arondir on the page, but transforming the powerful Elf from the supporting character we know her as to the central heart of The Rings of Power required considerable creative effort on Clark’s part. The same goes for Córdova, whose character was among the new ones made specifically for this series. In a joint interview with TV Insider, Clark and Córdova shared how they took Galadriel...

Ismael Cruz Córdova is no stranger to fighting for a role. "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" star fought "ferociously" for his role in the Prime Video series, and was eventually cast as the Silvan Elf Arondir. Córdova saw a lot of himself in the character -- he may have channeled Arondir's warrior spirit during his months-long audition process. "Characters like this, it's like they find you," Córdova told Esquire in September 2022. "I just always knew that this was mine."
Córdova seems to bring that same outlook to each audition: in the rare case he doesn't eventually win a role, it's probably because it wasn't meant for him. Recently, the actor was in the running to play a very different warrior, Adam Warlock, in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." Though he lost out to Will Poulter — and the rejection definitely stung — Córdova may yet find a place in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

When Amazon set out to make a “Lord of the Rings” TV series, they didn’t scale down the world of J.R.R. Tolkien for the “small screen.” Instead, for the first in a planned five-season storyline, the studio looked to meet the scale, ambition and prestige of Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning film trilogy.
“I’m glad that from the very beginning, Amazon had the ambition to try to match that bar,” J.A. Bayona, who directed the first two episodes of the series, said. “And because we were going to the origins of the story, to places and characters in a way that we had never seen before, that gave us the freedom to create our own thing.”

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” star Ismael Cruz Córdova is opening up about the cast and crew’s mental health while shooting the Amazon Prime Video series.
During an appearance on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast, the actor tells me that an on-set therapist was on hand to offer help after the show received racist backlash against its inclusive and diverse casting. “You need support when this happens because the voices are so loud and they’re coming at you from so many places,” Córdova says.
Córdova, who was shooting Season 2 in the U.K. when we spoke, says the therapist’s presence alone was beneficial. “I loved seeing her there, even if we didn’t speak,” he said. “I knew there was someone there seeing me completely. It wasn’t just as an actor.”

“I wanted to create an elf from where I stand in the world,” explains Ismael Cruz Córdova. The actor portrays Arondir on “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” The elves depicted in Peter Jackson’s infamous films were all royals, but Arondir is the first one “from the bunch” as Córdova puts it. Not only is he a foot soldier, someone of more common status in elven hierarchy, but he also marks the first time an actor of color has played an elf on screen. “I took the chance of doing something new,” says the actor. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
If there’s one aspect of Arondir that Córdova sees in himself, it’s a sense of resilience. “I grew up in quite a poor community in the mountains of Puerto Rico,” he explains, continuing that it feels like “kind of an improbable journey” from...

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will sparkle much more when it returns. Morfydd Clark revealed Galadriel will be among the characters to receive a special piece of jewelry in Season 2.
“She’s about to have a life-changing thing happen to her. She’s about to become acquainted with Nenya, her ring. It’s really exciting to see how the magic creeps in,” Clark said at the show’s FYC event in Hollywood on Sunday speaking alongside her castmates who are all on break from shooting in the UK.
The three elven rings were forged in the Season 1 finale of the fantasy series, set a thousand years before the events in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord Of the Rings and The Hobbit, by Celebrimbor with the help of Sauron (as Halbrand).

Expect more rings in The Rings of Power Season 2! J.R.R. Tolkien’s ring poem is the basis of the Prime Video series. As hinted by the name, the show will feature the creation of said rings, the first of which were forged in the Season 1 finale. Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), and Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) oversaw the creation of the three elven rings. At a Sunday, May 7 Rings of Power FYC event in Los Angeles, Clark confirmed that Galadriel will wear one of the magic bands in The Rings of Power Season 2 and that more rings of power will be forged in the new episodes. The Rings of Power Season 2 is currently in production in the U.K. Cast and creators took a break from filming for the event hosted by Prime Video. Joining Clark on the panel were Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir), Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad), Sophia Nomvete...

They’re the most disproportionately underrepresented demographic in Hollywood, an industry that makes its headquarters in a county where they comprise the plurality of the population. And even as other systemically marginalized groups make prominent and visible strides in pop culture, Latinos have remained caught in a cycle of development hell, with projects created by and centering them canceled (or permanently shelved) even as they continue to prop up a significant share of the box office as audience members.

That’s why it was so surprising in the Season 1 finale when Poppy stayed with their caravan cohorts rather than join Nori and the Stranger on their new adventure in search of that constellation from Sadoc’s map.
“I was also surprised as a person reading it in the script,” Markella Kavenagh, who plays Nori, tells TVLine.

P-Valley tells the story of The Pynk, a strip club in the Mississippi Delta owned by nonbinary character Uncle Clifford (Annan). In episode seven of the Starz series’ second season, Clifford is in jeopardy of losing the club, and reflects in a montage on all the years that The Pynk flourished and became an integral part of her family, while her grandmother Ernestine (Loretta Devine) grows ever sicker with Covid.
“It was really difficult tapping back into this thing that we were all just coming out of, in terms of the pandemic, and the Covid of it all,” says Annan. “This is a way of life for us now, we’re all cool with it. But I remember, in the height of the pandemic, before we had started filming season two, I had so many friends that had lost parents,...

Like information offered by the elves, Prime Video is drip-feeding the information on the new faces who will be joining Morfydd Clark,
Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlie Vickers and the rest in the new season of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. On the heels of last week's announcement, here's the latest news: Kevin Eldon, Calam Lynch, Selina Lo, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb and Will Keen are all in the show.
Of course, in keeping with the news so far, we have zero information on who the newcomers will be playing, so start your own guessing now. Though if we're honestly, we're hoping Eldon shows up as this guy.
The team behind The Rings Of Power is busily filming season 2 now, and that should be on our screens in 2024.
