‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.

Niecy Nash-Betts, who recently won an Emmy for her role on Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” has signed on to host the Los Angeles portion of next month’s Writers Guild Awards. The 2024 event, which was pushed back in the wake of the Hollywood strikes, will take place on Saturday, April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“A good writer is an actors’ greatest gift,” Nash-Betts said in a statement. Added L.A. awards exec producer Hugh Fink (“Saturday Night Live”): “Niecy Nash-Betts is the dream host for this year’s WGA Awards. Her brilliant performance in ‘Dahmer’ – as the courageous woman who helped take down a serial killer who ate his victims – is surprisingly a lot like negotiating with the AMPTP.”
Benn Fleishman of Avalon Harbor Entertainment is also a producer for this year’s WGA Awards in Los Angeles. Additional presenters scheduled to appear at this year’s L.

Following "Reacher" season 1, which set Prime Video viewing records back in 2022, wasn't going to be easy. But the second season of the show was just as sharp and self-aware as its predecessor, while also managing to feel a whole lot bigger. Most of that was because the production wasn't hindered by pandemic-imposed restrictions this time around. But the book on which it was based, "Bad Luck and Trouble," was also an arguably more epic tale than "Killing Floor," the novel used as the basis for season 1.
All in all, author Lee Child has written 28 Jack Reacher books in 26 years, plus a short story collection and a guide to the world of Reacher called "Rules." "Killing Floor" is the first novel in the run, but due to the plethora of source material, "Reacher" showrunner Nick Santora was able to pretty much pick any of the books he liked for season 2. Which is exactly what he did,...

Generally, Jack Reacher is a lone wanderer. He strolls into town, stumbles upon a situation, and uses his ludicrous stature to put the world to rights. Job done. But on TV, the formula is a little different. For the most part, Prime Video’s Reacher is hailed as a faithful take on Lee Child’s novel series, successfully capturing the spirit of the stoic man-mountain (helped by the spot-on casting of the gigantic Alan Ritchson). But the biggest change the show makes is keeping a more consistent cast of characters orbiting its central hero – particularly Maria Sten’s Sgt Frances Neagley.
While Neagley only appears in a small handful of Child’s books she’s been a significant presence in the show from the very beginning. And there’s a very specific reason why. “Neagley was a strategic decision. The one thing you cannot do on screen that you can...

Former U.S. Army military police major Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) will be coming back for another edge-of-your-seat season of Reacher.

[This story contains spoilers from the finale of Reacher‘s second season.]
Viewers of Reacher have now had one week to decompress, perhaps rewind, and think about how archvillain Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) finally got his in the season two finale.
After saving love interest Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan) from dropping mid-air out of a helicopter, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) — while strapped to a gurney and with a knife stuck in his arm — goes to retrieve Langston and deliver him the same fate that had been handed to many of our series hero’s friends: being thrown out of a flying aircraft.
The scene was rewarding to viewers of Prime Video’s action-packed hit series. And it turns out that scene was also one of the highlights for Reacher showrunner Nick Santora. Santora doesn’t make light of how much he is a fan of both author Lee Child’s books (the source material for the series) and his lead actor, Ritchson.

“Reacher” just wrapped its second season on Prime Video.
This time around Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), had to team with members of his old army squad, in an effort to figure out who is dropping them out of helicopters one-by-one. (That age-old conundrum.)
One of those team members is, of course, Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, one of Reacher’s sole allies in the outside world. She showed up in Season 1 and immediately became a fan favorite, even though the character didn’t appear in the book the inaugural season was based on.
Sten is confirmed to return in Season 3, which this time is based on Lee Child’s “Persuader,” another book that Neagley actually doesn’t show up in. Meaning Sten and her performance transcend the dogged commitment to the source material. She’s more chipper and richer than the smart-aleck Reacher, and their chemistry is palpable on screen.

Jack Reacher won’t be working alone in season three of Reacher.
The Prime Video series — one of the biggest shows on the Amazon platform — will feature the return of Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, Reacher’s (Alan Ritchson) former military colleague, in its third season. Prime Video renewed Reacher for a third season before its season two premiere in December and is in production on the next set of episodes.
Prime Video also revealed Wednesday that season three will be based on Persuader, the seventh of author Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels (which currently No. 28). The season will find Reacher going undercover to rescue an informant being held by someone from Reacher’s past. Neagley doesn’t appear in the book, so her presence in the series will diverge from the text.

You don't stop Jack Reacher. I mean, have you seen the size of that guy? And you don't stop his TV series either, since Prime Video has officially confirmed that production is underway on "Reacher" season 3 following the explosive finale of season 2 last week. This is only good news for fans: there was a way-too-long two-year break between seasons 1 and 2 of the brutal, wildly entertaining action series, and with cameras already rolling, that means season 3 will likely arrive sooner rather than later. Perhaps by the end of 2024? Prime's official press release doesn't specify, but it does contain other details to absorb and enjoy.
First of all, "Reacher" season 3 will be based on "Persuader," the seventh novel in author Lee Child's long-running series. This is excellent news. We'll dwell on this momentarily. The release does note that season 3 is filming in Toronto, which means Canada could be doubling for the...

This post contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 2
Season 1 of Prime Video's "Reacher" was a big hit for the streamer, topping the Nielsen streaming charts back in 2022. Now, with the arrival of season 2, Jack Reacher has triumphed once again. Not only has he overcome Robert Patrick's insidious Shane Langston in an explosive season finale, but he's once again garnered enough ratings to hit the number 2 spot on the Nielsen charts for the show's first week of release (Nielsen releases their stats a lot later than you'd think).
This all suggests that Prime Video has a reliable hit on its hands with "Reacher." Prior to the show's debut, two Tom Cruise-starring films came and went, upsetting fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels in the process who felt that Cruise's diminutive stature wasn't quite the embodiment of Child's hulking ex-Military Police officer. But "Reacher" introduced the 6-ft 3-inch,...

This post contains spoilers for Season 2 of "Reacher."
The penultimate episode of "Reacher" season 2 ends on a cliffhanger, where Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) makes an impossible choice: he walks straight into the lion's den to save his dear friends. Things haven't been rosy for Reacher and his pals since the new season's inception, as the catalyst for the group banding together was the death of their mutual friend, Calvin Franz (Luke Bilyk), who served alongside them in the 110th Special Investigations Unit.
At the end of season 1, we see Reacher leaving Margrave to continue his wandering lifestyle, but the nature of this new case forces him to contend with his self-inflicted loneliness and tendency to keep people at bay. With his friends' lives on the line, Reacher must completely embrace his maverick spirit and throw a comically evil dude out of a helicopter to avenge his dead friends. At this point, it's fair to say "Reacher" season 2 is a dramatic improvement on the first. Not only does the new season feel so much bigger than its predecessor (which was hampered somewhat by pandemic-imposed restrictions), the story is much more engaging than the small-town conspiracy Alan Ritchson's hero thwarted last time around. Part of that is down to the legend that is Robert Patrick, who brings a specific kind of seedy menace to the role of antagonist Shane Langston, paying homage to his classic James Cameron villain, the T-1000, in the process. But the camaraderie between Reacher and his former Army unit, the Special Investigators, makes for a more compelling watch, too.
That said, there's no doubt fans of the show will be missing the rag-tag group from season 1. When Jack Reacher first hit Prime Video in 2022, he arrived in the small town of Margrave,...

Jack Reacher has never been one to abide by the rules. In Lee Child's "Persuader," the seventh novel in the "Jack Reacher" series, Reacher goes out of his way to work for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to crack down on a trafficker, deliberately breaking a handful of official rules just to do the right thing. This kernel of dogged perseverance has always been an integral part of Reacher's personality in every iteration of his character, and "Reacher" season 2 continues this tradition by allowing him to break the rules yet again.

This post contains spoilers for the first six episodes of "Reacher" season 2, as well as for the novel it's based on, "Bad Luck and Trouble."
This week's "Reacher" episode includes perhaps the most emotionally charged moment in the entire series so far: Detective Russo (Domenick Lombardozzi) sacrifices his life in a shootout with Langton's men, saving the life of a young girl in the process. It's a bit of a redemptive moment for him; Russo spent the first half of the season as a potential mole for Langston, and he didn't do himself any favors with his repeated delusional threats to kick Jack Reacher's ass. But after showing his more sensitive side with Calvin Franz's kid in last week's episode, "Burial," and then helping Reacher out in the graveyard shootout sequence, it became clear that Russo really was as honorable as he claimed to be. In hindsight, we should've known he was about to die.

This post contains spoilers for episode 6 of "Reacher" season 2.
A sinister conspiracy is unraveling in the latest season of "Reacher," where the titular ex-Special Investigations officer (played by Alan Ritchson) and his old colleagues are in a race against time when it comes to stopping a deadly terrorist plan. Things are further complicated when Reacher and Neagley (Maria Sten) witness a building explode after a contract killer confesses that Tony Swan (Shannon Kook) hired him to kill members of Reacher's team. As Swan was close to everyone in Reacher's 110th Special Investigations Unit from years ago, this revelation impacts Reacher and co. emotionally, especially considering Swan's apparent involvement in the dangerous missile program, Project Littlewing.
Episode 6, titled "New York's Finest," rapidly moves towards dissecting the Swan problem after Reacher and his team interrogate Marlo Burns (Christina Cox), the Director of Operations at New Age, who is currently on the run.

Ask Alan Ritchson which action hero's footsteps Jack Reacher follows in, and the answer might surprise you: this week, the "Reacher" star told Variety that he thinks his hulking, skull-knocking do-gooder shares some DNA with Harrison Ford action heroes of decades past. Why? Both men tend to grumble their way through their action scenes as if they're spitting mad at the idea of having to pause whatever they were already doing that day to kick some butt.
"The way that he can make you laugh as he grunts the line through gritted teeth," Ritchson tells the outlet, "We don't have a lot of men that can do that these days." Variety cites both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone as two '80s stars whose work the actor admires, but Ford brings something different to the table, a quality that Jack Reacher has too. Season 1 of Prime Video's hit series "Reacher" was, by all accounts, a huge success. Not only did it break records for the service by topping the Nielsen charts, it finally gave fans a version of Jack Reacher much more faithful to Lee Child's book series, from which the show is adapted. Readers had been waiting for such a development ever since the relatively diminutive Tom Cruise fronted two films based on the novels but failed to project the physically intimidating presence that is such a hallmark of Child's ex-military police officer. The 6-ft 3-inch, 235-pound Alan Ritchson, on the other hand, proved to be the ideal Jack Reacher when Amazon and Skydance's streaming series hit Prime Video in 2022.
But while most fans were celebrating the arrival of a book-accurate Reacher, I couldn't help but feel the series felt just a little off. It certainly didn't hold back on the violence,...

When Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) first arrives in Margrave in the pilot of "Reacher," he meets Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin), the Chief Detective of the Margrave Police Department, who is investigating the same murder case Reacher wants to solve. Sporting wildly contrasting philosophies, Reacher and Finlay do not get along too well initially but decide to become allies throughout the series, with Finlay coming in clutch and saving Reacher heroically towards the end. As Finlay is one of the few characters who maintain a deep bond with Reacher, fans anticipated his return in the newest season, despite the narrative's massive time jump and the decision to adapt "Bad Luck and Trouble", the 11th book in the "Jack Reacher" series.
"Reacher" season 2, episode 4 deepens the shadow of doubt surrounding Tony Swan (Shannon Kook), one of Reacher's colleagues who served in the 110th Special Investigations Unit several years ago.

Exclusive: Reacher Season 2 has been crowned No. 1 at Amazon.
The first three episodes of the second season debuted on December 15 and quickly resonated with audiences. In fact, those episodes surpassed the entire Season 1 audience by 50% in the first three days on the streamer.
Reacher is now the No. 1 title of the year for Prime Video in terms of total viewers across all series and films globally. Currently, the series is available in more than 180 countries.
Season 1 already seemed like a home run for Amazon, racking up 1.84B minutes viewed across all eight episodes in the U.S. (which were released all at once) during its premiere weekend in March 2022, according to Nielsen streaming data. Since Nielsen only measures domestically, that wouldn’t give an indication of how the series is performing internationally.
But this is the biggest premiere weekend that the streamer has had for any series since Lord of...

[This story contains mild spoilers to the three-episode premiere of season two of Reacher.]
During the three-episode opener of Reacher’s season two premiere, audiences found the nomadic muscle-bound former leader of an elite military unit in Lee Child’s best-selling novels trying to live the same discreet unnoticeable life as best as a 6-foot-5 Herculean-framed man could do.
All Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson, wants to do is stay to himself, explore America, and quietly observe the compulsions and actions of everyday people. It’s not really his desire to socialize or get involved in the lives of others, but as the first episode of season two confirms, his code of what is right and wrong won’t let the former military officer sit back when he sees a crime in progress. In this case, he senses a woman nervously taking money out of an Atm machine to deliver to a carjacker, who is holding her child hostage down the street.

Of all the shows airing these days, it doesn't seem fair to criticize "Reacher" for its lack of realism. Like the books before it, the Amazon TV series is a wish-fulfillment fantasy series for middle-aged dads (which is not to suggest other people don't love it too) and is not intended to hold up to a thorough fact-checking. Audiences love Jack Reacher because there's something inherently appealing about his lack of life commitments and his ability to beat up and outsmart any bad guy who crosses his path; it's not because they genuinely find it believable that Reacher would uncover a mass criminal conspiracy on an annual basis.
That said, author Lee Child still did his due diligence with Reacher's military background, and so did the writers for the "Reacher" TV series. The first three episodes of season 2 put a lot of focus on Reacher's time as the leader of...

Reacher’s back, and he is fixin’ for a fight with whomever murdered one of his old Army pals.
Season 2 of Prime Video’s Reacher (the first three episodes are now streaming) opened with the Xxl wanderer navigating his latest rotation of clothes at a thrift shop when he gets word, via a coded bank deposit amount, to check in with former team member Neagley (played again by Season 1 returnee Maria Sten). Learning that one of their colleagues from the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit has been murdered, Reacher makes tracks for New York, meeting up with Neagley in a Brooklyn diner.

This post contains spoilers for the first three episodes of "Reacher" season 2.
When a band of thugs break into Jack Reacher's hotel room in Lee Child's "Bad Luck and Trouble," they find no luggage to go through, save for a toothbrush they snap angrily in half. When Reacher finds out, he's understandably pissed: the toothbrush was the only thing he was carrying while drifting from place to place, save for passports that he kept on his person. There's a reason why Child's 11th novel in the "Jack Reacher" series was such a sensation when it hit the stands. This was the first time Reacher was forced to abandon his vagabond ways and work closely with a team of friends he had not spoken to for years. This sudden sense of destabilization, coupled with the realization that his friends were the targets of a dark conspiracy, pushed Reacher to depths never breached before.

Tom Cruise got to Jack Reacher first, portraying the hulking military police officer turned vigilante in two films. But truth be told, for fans of Lee Child’s hugely popular novel series, Cruise was never a convincing fit, from his distracting star wattage to his smaller stature.
Now, in the Prime Video series adaptation, the stans have found their Reacher. The muscle-bound six-foot-three Alan Ritchson — a staple on shows like “Blue Mountain State” and “Titans” — is right at home as the do-good drifter whose one-liners are as devastating as his blows.
The first season of “Reacher” debuted in 2022 and became the first Prime Video title to top Nielsen’s SVOD rankings. But for the eagerly anticipated second season, which premieres on Dec. 15, Reacher’s biggest battle might be winning audiences over to a whole new cast. Because the hero is always on the run, the characters he grew friendly with in Margrave,...
