Tom Morello, Amanda Palmer, Speedy Ortiz, Kimya Dawson, and more have signed an open letter calling for the restoration of net neutrality, stressing the benefits of an open internet for artists.
Net neutrality, as initially codified during the Obama administration in 2015, broadly established regulations for a more open, accessible internet: The rules ensured that internet providers couldn’t do things like restrict access to certain content, slow or accelerate connection speeds, or hamstring connectivity for customers who didn’t pay a premium fee.

It was musical Monday for WGA picketers on day 56 of the Writers Guild strike, with Death Row Records representing in front of Sunset Bronson Studios, site of one of Netflix’s many Los Angeles-based offices.
Death Row boss and WGA supporter Snoop Dogg was unable to attend today due to prior commitments in the recording studio but he sent along Death Row Gm John Payne and label executive K Dubb who spoke to Deadline about why they were in attendance.
“The reason why I’m here is personal and business,” said Payne. “This means a lot to me and we’re all in the same gang when it comes to this. Without these people and their pens, there would be no TV shows and there would be no place for us to put our music. I see all these expensive cars going in (to Netflix) and [the writers] have on old shoes.

Toy Story star Tim Allen has been mocked for a viral social media post discussing the “face of woke”.
The right-wing actor, who once compared Hollywood liberals to Nazis in 1930s Germany, posted on Twitter on Monday (17 October).
“Who is the face of woke,” Allen wrote. “Do wokees have a club house in someone’s backyard or maybe a cute yet safe playpen somewhere?”
The tweet was subsequently “liked” more than 40,000 times, prompting thousands of replies – many of which were mocking the peculiar phrasing and sentiment of Allen’s post.
“Woke” is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as the state of being “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”. It is often used perjoritively by those on the political right.
A number of celebrities jumped in to respond to Allen’s tweet, ridiculing both the “face of woke” phrasing and...

HitPiece, a new website trying to position itself as the place to buy music NFTs, has temporarily shuttered its digital doors after a flurry of outrage from artists and labels, who claimed the marketplace was selling their music without permission.
The uproar began Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, especially among independent musicians who realized their songs were being auctioned off on the website. Frustrated social media posts came in from artists like Eve 6, Deerhoof, Sadie Dupuis (of Speedy Ortiz and Sad13), and even Jack Antonoff.
“Any Bleachers NFTs are fake,” Antonoff said.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.
Below, a final goodbye to the 90s to end the nostalgia once and for all. (We're not kidding. There are 1990 items below.)

Harriet Harris has popped up on your TV screens since 1989. A serial guest star, she's perhaps best known to TV audiences for her recurring roles as Bebe Glazer on "Frasier" and Felicia Tilman on "Desperate Housewives." But to a whole different segment, she's a Tony-winning actress.
Harris, a 58-year-old native of Texas, is currently starring in "Cinderella" on Broadway as Madame, Cinderella's stepmother. She took home a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" in 2002. However, it's her recognizable voice and litany of film and TV credits -- everything from "Law & Order" to "Momento" -- that make her a recognizable face and the perfect subject for "Isn't That ... ?," a new HuffPost feature highlighting those character actors you recognize from a variety of projects, but don't know much else about.
"I love it. It's a delight to do," Harris said in a phone interview about "Cinderella." "I have...

Hey, it's another Tttt column, where I, Jim Tudor, take you along on one of Tudor's Twitchin' Travel Tours! For this one, we leave the planet via bubbleship, only to return to to find it an abandoned post-apocalyptic wreck. That's right, I saw Oblivion. Here are a few of my thoughts on it: Oblivion (d. Joseph Kosinski, 2013. USA) When the rock band Eve 6 sang of spinning "'round to a beautiful oblivion" in the late 1990s hit song "Inside Out," the reference was to a heart in a blender. As kinda grotesque as that imagery is, the emotional turmoil it's meant to evoke is entirely relatable to many of us in the past decade-plus. The intensity of darkness, dread and lament in popular culture...

Now that their comeback has been officially sanctioned by Mother Monster herself, No Doubt should not have a problem reclaiming the top of the charts.
The first single, “Settle Down,” from their highly anticipated sixth album, Push and Shove, will be released on July 16 with the album dropping just two short months later, on September 25. To refresh your memory, it’s been almost 11 years since the band released their last studio album, Rock Steady, and in the time since, they've released a greatest hits album, lead singer Gwen Stefani was sweetly inescapable as she embarked on a massively successful solo career and bassist Tony Kanal produced hits for artists including Pink, Shontelle and even Gwen. Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young settled down and had a couple of children, as did Gwen and Tony, but apparently there are only so many times a rocker can watch...

There's something refreshing and nostalgic about Carolina Liar's sound. You can easily make out the influence of modern marvels like The Killers and The Fray or the ever stalwart U2 in the mix, and yet there's a bit of that 90s alt rock sound thrown in that makes it feel familiar. Even if their debut album Wild Blessed Freedom doesn't hit shelves until September 27th. Forgive the pun, but it's something of a mixed blessing to have a sound that feels familiar: you can come under fire for being just another link in the long chain of whichever musical trend is currently ravaging the charts. And honestly the 90s aren't so far gone that people aren't still occasionally listening to Third Eye Blind or Eve 6. The point being that comparisons to already established artists can be a death sentence for some bands when it comes to the listeners...

Last year, a friend who I hadn't seen in some time sent me a barrage of texts throughout an afternoon asking me to have a drink with him that night. He had some pals playing some covers that evening at a local muscle-shirt/short-skirts bar, and he didn't wanted to be the stranded bro pretending to listen to '90s radio hits he didn't really care to hear. I obliged, and I've always been glad I did: I didn't really love the atmosphere or the band, but watching them run through a well-rehearsed decoupage of hits from my teenage years was revealing. In the eyes of that band and the gaggle of casual listeners who drunkenly shouted along to each chorus, Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life" and Eve 6's "Inside Out" sat alongside Weezer's "Undone--Sweater Song" and Radiohead's "Creep" just fine. For alternative rock, those songs could barely...

Stepping her feet for the first time in entertainment business as an actress, Emily Osment is now trying her hands at singing. She is going to drop a mini studio album called "All the Right Wrongs" across United States on October 27.
As a pre-cursor to the album, the Lily Truscott of "Hannah Montana" series has dropped its first single "All the Way Up" in August and given fans a listening party to the Ep on Jsyk.com. From alternative rock sounds in track "You Are the Only One", Emily goes pop with "Average Girl" which tells about getting dumped on Valentine's Day.
Gearing up to promote the effort, Emily will hit the road with Push Play, starting from November 12 to 28. As for this month, she is scheduled to make an in-store appearance at Best Buy to celebrate the album's release day. Emily Osment's debut album will be released across United States on March 9, 2010, according to USA Today. The effort, which is yet to be titled, reportedly will be produced by Matt Squire (Taking Back Sunday, Boys Like Girls, Panic! At the Disco).
Explaining about the materials she is currently recording for the project, Emily confirms the songs are "definitely pop, but with an alternative-rock edge." She adds, "It's music you'll want to play in the car with the windows rolled down."
The Lilly Truscott of "Hannah Montana" is said to contribute behind songwriting desk for most of the songs in the upcoming album. She will collaborate with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's and Eve 6's members, Max Collins and Tony Fagenson. Furthermore, a new song "All the Way Up" is rumored to hit Radio Disney this August with an accompanying video, which features band Push Play, to be debuted later on.
