I try to never make an interview article about myself, but I had to mention just how I discovered Heidi Shepherd, Carla Harvey and their kick ass metal band, Butcher Babies.
Last August, I was in the pit at the Mayhem Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY. I was waiting to see Children of Bodom, but there was one other act scheduled before Alexi Laiho and his Finnish brethren took the stage. A group called Butcher Babies. Fronted by two incredibly beautiful and awesomely aggressive ladies, Butcher Babies absolutely slayed the crowd in Saratoga and I knew I had to catch up with this band and interview them as the Dread Central readership would certainly fall in love with them as I did.
Although I wasn't able to coordinate a meeting at Rock and Shock 2013 where the band played, I was finally able to catch up with the two lead singers...

The soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" is — once again — the No. 1 album in the country. In its 10th nonconsecutive week in the top spot, the album sold 133,000 copies (-11%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set has sold 2.1 million copies to date and now ties "The Lion King" for an animated film soundtrack’s most weeks at No. 1. Pharrell Williams' "G I R L” returns to its peak slot at No. 2 with 29,000 (+18%), after spending last week at No. 9. The album gained sales due to Pharrell's recent appearances on "Saturday Night Live," "Good Morning America" and "Sunday Morning." 5 Seconds of Summer's "She Looks So Perfect" Ep drops from No. 2 to No. 3 with 26,000 in its second week (-82%). New arrival MercyMe debuts at No. 4 with its eighth album, “Welcome to the New” (26,000). It's the third top 10 album for the Christian rock band, following 2012’s "The Hurt & the Healer" and 2010’s “The Generous Mr.

The soundtrack to “Frozen” will spend another week at No.1 on the Billboard 200 next week with no competitor coming within 100,000 of the Disney juggernaut. “Frozen” will sell up to 135,000 copies, according to Hits Daily Double, for its 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1. This week’s No. 2 debut, “She Looks So Perfect,” from 5 Seconds of Summer will likely stay there with sales of 30,000. Next will come the first of four debuts in the top 10: Black Label Society’s “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” at No. 3 (27,000), SoMo’s self-titled set at No. 5 (26,000), MercyMe’s “Welcome To The New” at No. 6 (26,000) and Martina McBride’s album of soul classics, “Everlasting,” at No. 7 (22,000). Holdovers in the Top 10 include Pharrell Williams’ “G I R L” at No. 4 (26,000), rising five spots, and Johnny Cash’s “Out Among the Stars,” which holds at No. 8 (20,000). “Now 49” and Shakira’s self-titled set are too close to call for the No.

Even if you haven't Monte Pittman's name, chances are pretty good you've heard his music, as his mighty axe has swung through dozens of hit albums. He's played on nearly all of Madonna's records and tours since 2001, he co-wrote several songs on Prong's acclaimed albums Scorpio Rising and Power of the Damager, and his solo project Pain, Love & Destiny scored high on the charts, nabbing him several awards and nominations of his own. After spending many successful years in the indie rock and pop arena, Pittman has finally returned to his metal roots with the follow-up release The Power of Three – a dark and heavy project that finds him teaming up with another metal legend: Grammy-winning producer Flemming Rasmussen, best known for his contributions to Metallica's ...And Justice for All and Master of Puppets. The result is a feast of death, darkness and anguish that's unlike anything the artist has dished up before.

With influences ranging from At The Drive-In, Refused, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Young Legionnaire and many more bands who regularly soundtrack my early drive into work – clawing the sleep from my eyes and shaking the fuzz from my brain – or plague my ears as I’m out walking the dog, to say I was intrigued to hear what Radio Alcatraz were all about is a bit of an understatement. As soon as the CD arrived through my letterbox, in my CD player it went and that’s pretty much how it’s stayed. I think my neighbours can now even air-guitar the riffs.
The band hail from London and Brighton and have shared the stage with the likes of punk legends Anti-Flag, Godsized – who’ve toured with Black Label Society, and also smaller, hardcore, underground bands such as Palm Reader and Housefires.

Sure, horror and metal have always walked hand-in-hand. Forget the "Thriller" video; at the top of my list of horror-themed music videos is Black Label Society's "Stillborn". (Of course Doctor Gash has been bleeding Black Label for a long time... what's your favorite horror-themed music video?) But today we discovered a zombie-themed music video that is far from a metal song. Rock band The Active Set has released a bloodbath of a video for their song "Famous for Dying".
The Active Set is obviously a band that is not so self-absorbed that they need to have their faces incessantly shown in their videos. In fact, basically the entire second half of this work is simply a zombie feeding frenzy on the band. Starring Matthew Stolarz, Wayne Russell, Michael Castro, Shelby Lindley, Tristin Gorrell, Melanie Russell, Walter Phelan, Damien Stolarz, Adam Stolarz, Jeremy Stolarz and directed by Lior Molcho with F/X by Walter Phelan,...

Captain Kirk is headed back to space.
William Shatner, the Emmy winning TV icon, announced the track listing and details for his new space-inspired cover album, Searching For Major Tom. The album will feature a large number of heavy metal covers, as well as songs by U2, Frank Sinatra, Queen and Pink Floyd.
Shatner has had a storied music career, producing confusing, parodied yet somehow enlightening song covers and original bits over the past 40+ years. His first album, The Transformed Man, raised eyebrows with its bizarre covers, which, in what would become his trademark style, boasted dramatic readings of lyrics over music. Singer Layne Staley died of a drug overdose in 2002.
By Gil Kaufman

The death on Tuesday of former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr continued the tragic legacy of one of the most beloved bands to emerge out of the early 1990s grunge scene in Seattle.
Largely because of late singer Layne Staley's debilitating drug addiction, in their heyday, Aic were known almost as much for their long periods of inactivity as they were for their gloom-laden, brooding music.
Melding hard-rock guitars and the sludgy grunge aesthetic of the time, Aic stood out from the pack thanks to their adoption of a more classic heavy-metal sound and intense, almost unrelentingly bleak lyrics that touched on everything from drug addiction and isolation to the plight of Vietnam veterans.
The seeds of the group were formed in 1986, when a then-teenage Staley quit his first group, Sleeze, and formed a new band,...

William Shatner ($#*! My Dad Says) is in the recording studio, putting together what is likely to be his most shat-tastic foray into the world of music. I know you’re thinking that there’s no way that he could possibly top his cover of the Elton’s John classic Rocket Man but, this just might.
Shatner is reportedly in the studio with the likes of Zakk Wylde (Ozzy, Black Label Society), Brain May (Queen), Peter Frampton, Bootsy Collins, Ian Pace (Deep Purple) and Steve Howe (Yes) putting together a “space” or “flying in space” themed metal album titled Seeking Major Tom.
Shatner recently took to Twitter after spending some time in the studio to heap some praise on Wylde:
“Zakk is one of the great guitarists who played with Ozzy Osbourne. A master playing a cover of Iron Man. He’s fantastic! I’m energized. Mbb”

William Shatner is working on another music project, and this time it's all about metal. Following a "space" theme, and titled Seeking Major Tom, Shatner is joining forces with some major hard rock icons for the new project, which is set to be released later this year. Essentially, the release is a covers album, but with covers brought together to tell the story of a concept album.
So far, Shatner has collaborated with Brian May (Queen), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society), Peter Frampton, Ian Paice (Deep Purple), and Steve Howe (Yes). Seeking Major Tom is said to be a collection of 18 "rock anthems" reinterpreted to tell the story that Shatner is putting forward on the album [...]...

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Black Label Society's Berzerkus Tour Sampler for only 69 cents!
Yes, 69 cents!
Note, this sale is only for today, Wednesday November 10, until midnight Pst.
For less than a dollar you get this 26-song double live album from the metal band, which boasts former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde on guitar and vocals.
Do I really even have to do the math on this? Ok, fine, Math Time = $0.69 divided by 26 songs = $0.265 per song. That's less than 3 cents per song, c'mon, buy it now! You'd be insane not to.
If you're a fan of Black Label Society, then there shouldn't even be a moment's hesitation. Grab this now. If you're not that familiar with the band, well, for 69 cents, you can take a chance on them.

September 28, 2010: Black Label Society has recently done a video shoot for their song "Overlord”. The music video was done by directors Nik Jamgocyan and Eric Zimmerman, both from Master Cylinder.
The track, "Order Of The Black" sold for around 33,000 copies in America in the first week of release to enter the Billboard 200 charts. The song entered the charts at number 4. Bls as we know is headed by none other than Zakk Wylde.
The director duo of Zimmerman and Jamgocyan also had worked with Bls previously. Together, they had created video clips for songs like "Fire It Up" and "Blood.

Chicago – The great Eagle Rock Entertainment released a pair of concert Blu-rays this week that deserve your attention, especially for serious fans of either of the bands involved. Frank Black, Kim Deal and the rest of The Pixies rock in a pair of shows on “Pixies Live: Acoustic and Electric” and Zakk Wylde (don’t miss our exclusive portrait) proves his guitar-god prowess on “Black Label Society: The European Invasion Doom Troopin’”
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
The best music discs don’t just replicate the concert experience but give you a view of the band doing what they do best. Ideally, it’s not just “any show,” but one that could convert the non-believers as well as preach to the choir. Such is the case with “Acoustic and Electric” and “The European Doom Troopin’,” although the former is more effective at illustrating its artist’s ability than the latter, but we’ll get to that.

Eminem returns to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200 after sitting at the runner-up position since last two weeks. His latest rap album "Recovery" adds 133,000 copies, giving it 2.1 million mark in just eight weeks and replacing the former chart topper Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" on the top spot.
So far, the double-platinum album has become the chart's champion for six non-consecutive weeks. It's the longest-running No. 1 for an album since Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" claimed six straight frames atop the list in December 2009 and January this year. Moreover, it becomes the second album to score two million threshold behind Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" which now has sold around 2.5 million.
Back on the chart, Arcade Fire sit at No. 2 with 52,000 and just behind them, there is "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" soundtrack album which arrives on the U.S. albums chart with 41,000. Another new entry of...

Eminem might lend you the crown for a week, but this summer's chart king is not ready to abdicate his throne just yet. A week after falling back to #2, Slim Shady's Recovery will be back on top of the Billboard 200 albums charts next week thanks to sales of 133,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
That means that not only did Em cross the 2.1 million mark in just eight weeks, but he pushes back last week's #1, Arcade Fire's The Suburbs, to #2, as the Canadian indie rockers saw a steep (66 percent) decline on sales of 52,000. Among the newcomers in the top 10 are the Camp Rock 2 soundtrack (#3, 41,000) and the latest from Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, Order of the Black (#4, 33,000); country singer Blake Shelton with All About Tonight (#6, 33,000); and college crooner Mike Posner,...

Eminem’s “Recovery” shows its buoyancy as it floats back to the top of the Billboard 200 next week. As you know, Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” narrowly (by 4,000 units) pushed “Recovery” from the top spot to No. 2 this week, but “Recovery” is set to outsell “The Surburbs” by a 3:1 margin this week, according to Hits Daily Double. Four titles may debut in the top 10 next week: “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” which features the Jonas Bros., will likely come in at No. 3, while Zakk Wylde’s project, Black Label Society, will see its latest bow at No....

Should you buy new music from Blake Shelton, Mike Posner, Black Label Society, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Lost in the Trees? Take a listen, and decide for yourself. What to Play, What to Skip I'm not gonna lie to you: it's slim pickings this week. Between Blake Shelton's cookie-cutter country and newcomer Mike Posner's tepid Justin Timberlake impersonation, it's enough to make you skip the whole week altogether. Black Label Society's metal machine is just more punishment, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sounds fresh until you realize it's almost 20 years old. There's a big problem when a reissue is one of the few signs of musical life among the new releases. The label debut from classical-folkie deconstructionists Lost in the Trees is the only reason I'm showing up this week. Don't be afraid to say, "Play." Watch: Check out...

August 11, 2010: In news, that should shake up the whole heavy metal community, guitar virtuoso and one time Ozzy main-man, Zakk Wylde is back with his own Black Label Society, after a long gap of four years.
Their new album’s called "Order of the Black". The album has already been placed with previous Bls offerings like "The Blessed Hellride" and "Mafia" and is being called one of the best Bls albums so far.
Even prior to its release, "Order of the Black" has been held high by both the critics and fans alike as the return of the hard-edged and all pervasive.

Ozzy Osbourne has denied accusations that he fired guitarist Zakk Wylde from his band. The rocker attempted to clear up the misconception in an interview with Goldmine. "It's not changed that much, apart from the fact that I thought I was beginning to sound like, um... what's his band called? Zakk's band. My brain, it just started on the left side. Black Label Society. I started to sound like Black Label Society," Osbourne said. He added: (more)...

I'm not sure why I didn't review Halloween II. For some odd reason I never wrote one. I would have given it a C-, same as Ron did, but that's because it's the same movie as the first Halloween, a movie I did review. The alternate ending for Halloween II has posted on YouTube and it's just as lame as the real ending. Michael dies (again) but this ending has him screaming the word "Die!" with his mask off, looking like Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society. And don't even get me started on the stupid horse and "Love Hurts" song in the background.Thankfully, this will be the end of any more Rob Zombie Halloween movies. (Though he is credited as being a writer for Halloween III. Not sure if that's true or not. Like it matters.) Hollywood will be going in a new direction to further continue screwing up the franchise.
