Now he’s ready to show the world how a glorious, professionally prepared meal actually gets pulled off, without the assistance of swap-outs, food stylists, clean-up crews, and well-timed camera cuts to make it all look seamless.

Wheelhouse, the production, content and talent management firm founded by Brent Montgomery, has secured an investment from Alignment Growth, the firm founded the former Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes and former Warner Bros. Entertainment chief Kevin Tsujihara.
Terms of the funding round weren’t disclosed, but Bewkes will join the board of the company, which owns Spoke Studios, Campfire, Butternut and Additive Creative Partners, and has production deals with Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot and David Chang’s Majordomo.
The company plans to use the fresh cash to attract new talent and pursue strategic acquisitions.
“We are building Wheelhouse as a collective of global creatives who not only shine on their own, but truly want to partner with one another across labels and divisions so we’re thrilled that Alignment’s investment will allow us to supersize our efforts engaging talent in front of and behind the camera,” Montgomery said in a statement.

Brent Montgomery’s media company Wheelhouse has secured its first outside round of funding, landing a minority investment from former Time Warner chief Jeff Bewkes’ investment firm Alignment Growth.
As part of the transaction, Bewkes — who founded Alignment with Alex Iosilevich and Kevin Tsujihara — will be joining Wheelhouse’s board of directors.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Wheelhouse says the size of the investment from Alignment “will enable Wheelhouse to build an infrastructure that attracts industry-leading talent and accelerates growth via strategic acquisitions.”
Founded in 2018 by Montgomery, who was then coming off his sale of Leftfield Entertainment to ITV in 2014, and Jimmy Kimmel, Wheelhouse assets currently include Spoke Studios, Campfire, Butternut, Wheelhouse UK and DNA. Additionally, Wheelhouse has production partnerships with Kimmel’s Kimmelot and celebrity chef David Chang’s Majordomo Media.

“Top Chef” started its 21st season last week with 15 cheftestants vying for the grand prize, but the show revealed there will be a 16th contestant entering the kitchen: Soo Ahn will fight his way through “Last Chance Kitchen” for a chance to win a spot on the main show and ultimately win the whole competition. In past seasons Brooke Williamson, Joe Flamm and current host Kristen Kish won “Lck” and then came back to win the grand prize. Can he make that arduous climb?
“Top Chef” is unique in giving its eliminated contestants a chance to earn their way back into the competition. Despite her own level of fame, Chrissy Teigen admitted interacting with celebrities used to give her “terrible anxiety” — until she was given the chance to dig deeper on her new Freeform show, that is.
“Chrissy & Dave Dine Out,” which premieres Wednesday, welcomes a slew of A-list guests — including the likes of Jimmy Kimmel, Simu Liu and Regina Hall — to dine their way through L.A.’s vibrant restaurant scene while fostering meaningful conversations that helped Teigen overcome her “crazy jitters.”
“I see a lot of the guests that we have on the show in passing, maybe at a cocktail party and award shows here and there. But to sit down and share a meal with somebody is really unique and different,” Teigen told TheWrap. “It was honestly nice for me, who’s always had such bad anxiety — and especially around celebrities, had terrible anxiety — to see them as people and not entities.

Not everybody enjoys feeling the burn. But in the tight-knit world of chili heads who compete to see who can eat the most uber-spicy peppers, the endorphin rush that comes from capsaicin — the component in peppers that brings the heat — is a high worth pursuing. The contestants, the pepper growers trying to breed increasingly spicy pods, the hot sauce-makers tinkering with their recipes in their kitchens and the reviewers who chronicle this world on YouTube and social media are all featured in Hulu’s new show “Superhot: The Spicy World of Pepper People.”
The 10-episode “Superhot” goes deep inside the world of pepper personalities like Johnny Scoville, a popular reviewer and YouTube host; Aurea DeGuzman, a relative newcomer who grows peppers and makes her own hot sauce; Shahina Waseem, a British pepper-eating champion who’s never lost a competition and Troy Primeaux, grower of one of the world’s hottest peppers,...

Chrissy Teigen, David Chang and Joel Kim Booster dropped by The Hollywood Reporter‘s studio during the Sundance Film Festival, where they discussed their new food series, Chrissy & Dave Dine Out.
While Teigen and Chang have an extensive background in the culinary industry, as Teigen is a best-selling cookbook author and Chang is one of the nation’s most recognizable restaurateurs, Booster was the only one of the trio who did not share a passion for food prior to the series.

I didn’t have a huge interest in food,” the actor-comedian explained to THR. “I grew up really poor. We didn’t go out to eat a lot. Martha Stewart didn’t talk to CNN for a new original documentary series the news outlet has produced about her. But she’s still the star of the show.
“The Many Lives of Martha Stewart” is a four-part series produced by CNN Studios, a division devoted to longer-form and enterprise programming in the wake of a strategic decision made in 2022 to scale back big ambitions to compete in the documentary arena. Under previous leader Jeff Zucker, CNN extended its aegis to the world of film festivals and documentary series led by notables such as Anthony Bourdain, Lisa Ling and W. Kamau Bell.
A good chunk of that work was scrapped after Warner Bros. Discovery, a big player in the world of cost-conscious reality programming, took over CNN, and installed a leader, Chris Licht, who had a mandate to pare operations. Months later, CNN would win an Oscar for a documentary...

Freeform’s future in scripted original programming is going under the microscope.
The Disney-owned basic-cable network has canceled Cruel Summer after a two-season run and will conclude Good Trouble with the second half of its upcoming fifth season.
Good Trouble, a spinoff of The Fosters, joins Grown-ish in wrapping their runs on the younger-skewing cabler in 2024. Anthology Cruel Summer and Good Trouble were Freeform’s last remaining scripted originals following the November cancellation of animated comedy Praise Petey.
Sources say Freeform executives, led by executive vp programming and content strategy Simran Sethi, wanted to bring back both shows but the ratings for both Good Trouble and Cruel Summer didn’t justify the costs of doing so — especially as Disney looks to cut costs by another $2 billion — and as most viewers watch the network’s programming on Hulu.

Dave O’Connor is exiting production company Majordomo Media to take over the reins of Time Studios as president.
O’Connor will report to Time CEO Jessica Sibley, who announced his hiring in a memo to staff Monday. O’Connor takes over the Time Studios role from Ian Orefice, who left the company this year to lead Jeff Zucker’s RedBird Imi-backed content studio EverWonder.

During its seven-year run, BuzzFeed‘s Worth It has reshaped food criticism, boosted family-owned restaurants, earned over one billion views, and depicted over-the-top dishes from around the world. Now, the food-focused web series is coming to an end.
March 11 marks the beginning of the last season of Worth It. After three final episodes, hosts Steven Lim and Andrew Ilnyckyj will officially shelve their shared brand of cost-conscious food criticism.
Worth It episodes are typically framed around a specific ingredient or dish. Lim and Ilnyckyj — who are usually accompanied by cameraman and producer Adam Bianchi — travel to different restaurants to sample cheap, mid-range, and expensive versions of the chosen foodstuff. Each episode ends with the hosts determining which take on the dish provided the best bang for their buck.
That format has sent Lim, Ilnyckyj, and Bianchi around the world, and the final season of Worth It will feature more globetrotting adventures.

The afternoon sun streams through the windows of the Brooklyn art space ChaShaMa. Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Betty Gilpin is in the desert. She’s there filming “Mrs. Davis,” Damon Lindelof and Tara Hernandez’s Peacock drama series, but doesn’t give a specific location — “We’re shooting in the middle of nowhere,” she says — because the project is still mostly under wraps.
Gilpin does share that playing a nun on the show has been quite uncomfortable. “The costume designer is very much British and put me in a wool habit, and we are shooting in the absolute desert, and it’s so hot,” Gilpin tells me on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast. “I don’t know how these nuns do it. I hope that when they’re at the convent and they have no visitors, they’re like, ‘Should we just wear boxers today?’ Because this is insane.”
Gilpin then teases about the series, “It’s so weird.

“Loot” co-creators Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang had only one person in mind to star when they created their Apple TV+ comedy about a newly minted female billionaire navigating her tabloid-catnip divorce and venturing to rebrand as a philanthropist: Maya Rudolph. And they were right on the money with the “Saturday Night Live” alum, who plays the obscenely wealthy Molly Novak. Rudolph understands the character beyond her “colorful elements”, seeing her instead as a “vulnerable” woman who must navigate through a “transitional period” in her life, she told TheWrap Monday as she discussed the Season 1 finale.

In one of the only times anyone’s told Molly (Maya Rudolph) the hard truth in the decades since her husband (Adam Scott) became a billionaire, she’s stuck in a private jet hangar somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma. Having just tried essentially to airlift the staff of her foundation, which she only realized existed after very messy public divorce, to Miami for the weekend, Molly’s forced to face the fact that she’s been living in a completely different reality from 99.9 of the rest of the world.

David Chang is nothing if not a busy man, even in the midst of a global pandemic. The founder of the Momofuku restaurant group might have stepped back from day-to-day, restaurant decision-making, but he remains a considerable presence on the food and pop culture scene, with two podcasts, a new cookbook — “Cooking at Home: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Recipes (And Love My Microwave), co-written with New York Times food reporter Priya Krishna — releasing next week, and a brand new documentary series with Morgan Neville, “The Next Thing You Eat” on Hulu.
This is not the first collaboration for Neville and Chang, who worked together on the Netflix nonfiction series “Ugly, Delicious,” which featured the chef exploring a single dish, be it tacos or pizza or fried chicken, and the history and regional evolution that each meal has undergone since its inception.

What will we be eating in 10 years? In 50? Are we destined for a future of freeze-dried space food and Frankenfoods? Will we have to say goodbye forever to sushi and hamburgers?

Chang, the innovative chef who launched Momofuku and Majordomo restaurants, previously worked with Neville on the Netflix series “Ugly Delicious” and talked about his friend Anthony Bourdain in Neville’s recent doc “Roadrunner.” But where “Ugly Delicious” delved deeply into the foods of varied cultures and cities, “The Next Thing You Eat” confronts a number of eye-opening scenarios with a playful and informative approach.
