The live shows of “America’s Got Talent” Season 18 begin on Tuesday, August 22 with the first “Qualifiers” round. In this stage of the competition, the acts sent through by the judges during the “Auditions” phase will perform again for a chance to advance to the finals. Of the 55 acts we know advanced to this round, 21 incorporate some form of singing in their overall talent. That’s over a third of the acts still in the competition, leaving us to wonder whether singing acts have a distinct advantage when it comes to the world’s biggest talent show. In terms of winners, it’s been four years since the last singer, Kodi Lee, claimed victory.
In the first six seasons of “AGT,” all of the victors worked within the singing genre on their way to claiming the championship. Bianca Ryan, Neal E. Boyd, Kevin Skinner, Michael Grimm and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr....

One of the most talked-about acts to come out of this year’s “America’s Got Talent” auditions is Putri Ariani, thanks in no small part to Simon Cowell blessing her with his Season 18 Golden Buzzer. All these months later, Simon is reflecting on the 17-year-old blind singer/songwriter’s audition at the piano and he’s expecting big things for her in this competition. “I would be amazed if she’s not either the winner or the runner-up. I mean, that’s who I put my money on,” he reveals in the NBC video above.
Putri came all the way from Indonesia to show the world her talent, and she performed two songs on the big stage: “Loneliness” and “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” “There was something about her, even before she started to sing,” Simon now declares. “I just — I had a feeling. And I’ve done this a long time.

The July 12 episode of “America’s Got Talent” ended on an especially high note with a star-making performance from singer-songwriter Wyn Starks. Before he took the stage, Starks told host Terry Crews, “Fear has stopped me for too long… I have to do this. During the July 12 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” viewers met Acapop Kids, a teenage a cappella group comprised of 12-to-17-year-old students. Before his death, he wrote the song “My Turn,” which the kids decided to sing on the big stage to “honor him” in front of “AGT” judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara (Howie Mandel was out sick).

However, there are four specific variety acts that have yet to win the top prize of $1 million and a headline show in Las Vegas. Can any of these acts make history during Season 16 finale on September 15?

“AGT” fans, get ready to meet aspiring singer-songwriter Madilyn Bailey. The bubbly Wisconsin native, who hails from a “very tiny town where there are more cows than human beings,” will take the stage during the upcoming July 6 audition episode of NBC’s reality TV show. Her mission? To get back at her many internet haters by turning their negative comments into a cheery-sounding “mean tweets” song. Watch the “America’s Got Talent” sneak peek video above.
“With posting content on the internet, inevitably comes the trolls,” Madilyn explains to judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel. “And so I thought I would take the hate comments from my YouTube videos and turn them into a song.”

Has NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” found its next singing superstar? Storm Large — yes, that’s her real name — wowed the judges during Tuesday’s third episode of Season 16 by putting a sultry rock ‘n’ roll twist on Frank Sinatra‘s “I Got You Under My Skin.” The 51-year-old musician has been working in the industry for 30 years, but still has yet to become a household name. After previously competing on CBS’s “Rock Star: Supernova,” Storm now calls auditioning for “AGT” an “enormous, terrifying opportunity.” Watch the video above.
Before she began singing, Simon Cowell asked her if they’d ever met before. Storm quickly joked, “We were so young, Simon. Let’s not bring that up.” Hmm, perhaps the judge saw her on “Rock Star: Supernova,” where she came in fifth place, or during her 2006 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”?

NBC’s long-running reality TV show “America’s Got Talent” has had its fair share of successful winners over the years. But none has struck a chord with viewers more than ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer. This talented tyke from Season 12 has become one of the most viral acts ever, with her original 2017 audition racking up more than 350,000,000 views. In our recent poll asking fans to name their favorite “Agt” winner of all time, Darci Lynne unsurprisingly topped the list at 38%. The “America’s Got Talent” winners list is full of solo singers. In fact, there are seven so far throughout the show’s 15-year run: Bianca Ryan (Season 1), Neal E. Boyd (Season 3), Kevin Skinner (Season 4), Michael Grimm (Season 5), Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. (Season 6), Grace VanderWaal (Season 11) and Kodi Lee (Season 14). However, a singing group has never prevailed … until now? Ahead of Tuesday’s third episode, NBC has released a sneak peek video of Resound, a humble singing trio from Richmond, Virginia (watch above). Do they have what it takes to make “Agt” history?

On September 19, magician Shin Lim joined the exclusive club of “America’s Got Talent” winners, with his sleigh-of-hand act. His future success remains to be seen, as past winners have had varying levels over the years. “America’s Got Talent” crowned its 13th winner Wednesday with magician Shin Lim squeaking out a win over the dancers Zurcaroh. Lim is the second sleight-of-hand artist on the winners list after Mat Franco who took the title in Season 9. We had not expected Zurcaroh, who were Tyra Banks‘ Golden Buzzer, to do so well, given that no other dance group had won “Agt” in its 12-year history (solo dancer Kenichi Ebina won Season 8).
Rather, we thought the race would be between Shin Lim and teen singing sensation Courtney Hadwin, who had been Howie Mandel‘s Golden Buzzer act. “America’s Got Talent” is set to crown its lucky 13th winner on the September 19 results show. The race is too close to call between teen singing sensation Courtney Hadwin and magician Shin Lim. One of them will win the season 13 title, which comes with a $1 million cash prize and a chance to headline at a Las Vegas casino.
Whoever tops the tally of America’s votes will join a winners list of talent that includes last year’s champ Darci Lynne Farmer. This pint-sized singing ventriloquist took time off her nationwide tour to appear on the first live show of this season of “Agt.” She was the the third ventriloquist to win “America’s Got Talent” after Season 2’s Terry Fator, who appeared on the Season 12 finale alongside Farmer, and Season 10’s Paul Zerdin.
Farmer was only 12 when she won the show last September. She was the third tween talent to take the title.

Neal E. Boyd, the "America's Got Talent" champ, who died earlier this month, was discovered by his own mother after she walked into his bedroom to check on him. Neal's mother, Esther Rogers Boyd, told cops she couldn't wake him up, so she called 911. When officers arrived, we're told they saw Neal in bed with a sleep apnea mask on his face. They couldn't feel a pulse, so CPR was performed ... but to no avail.

Opera singer Neal E. Boyd, winner of “America’s Got Talent” Season 3, died in Sikeston, Miss., on Sunday. He was 42.
Scott County Coroner Scott Amick confirmed the death to Variety, as well as the cause: heart failure, kidney failure, and liver disease.
One year ago, Boyd and his mother were involved in a serious car accident in Scott County, after running off the right side of the road, striking a tree.
The former insurance salesman-turned-opera singer won the 2008 competition, and the $1 million prize, after sharing with audiences — and judges David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne (Jerry Springer was host) — the story of his impoverished upbringing, and love of singing.
“I didn’t realize we were poor until my mama told me I was, but we got through,” he said on the show. “It was my mom who really kept the family together… If it wasn’t for my mom,...

“He had heart failure, kidney failure and some liver disease. Just a number of things were wrong with him, and ultimately that’s what led to his demise,” Amick told People. “Neal was on a Cpap machine and when Ems got there, they put the monitor on him and confirmed he was deceased.”
Boyd and his mother were in a car accident last year after he blacked out at the wheel that proved near-fatal, and he has been recovering since.
