Chances of a second season for Patricia Arquette's newest show have dried up. Apple TV+ has cancelled her High Desert series, according to the actress and executive producer. The show was created by Nancy Fichman, Katie Ford, and Jennifer Hoppe-House.
A single-camera dark comedy series, the High Desert TV show stars Arquette, Brad Garrett, Weruche Opia, Bernadette Peters, and Rupert Friend. Recurring players include Matt Dillon, Christine Taylor, Eric Petersen, Susan Park, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Eden Brolin, Carmine Giovinazzo, and Carlo Rota. In the story, Peggy Newman (Arquette) is an on-again-off-again addict. She decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother (Peters), with whom she lived in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, California. Peggy makes the life-changing decision to become a private investigator. Read More…...

“High Desert” is headed beyond the horizon at Apple TV+. In a video posted on Instagram Saturday morning, series star Patricia Arquette shared that the production had not received an order for a second season at the streamer.
“A lot of you have asked about ‘High Desert’ and if there was going to be a second season, so I just wanted to let you know that we just found out that we won’t be coming back,” Arquette opened. “That’s a sad bummer for all of us.”
Arquette extended her gratitude to the crew, writers and actors on the series. The post was accompanied with a text caption: “It stinks.”
“We just had a blast. I love Peggy and that punk rock world,” Arquette continued. “Thanks to you guys for watching. Can’t win them all. You know, it sucks but… tough.”
Representatives for Apple TV+ were not immediately available for comment.

It’s 42 degrees Celsius outside as I write the fifth High Desert article sitting in my small, dimly lit room. In a surreal way, the show adds to the smell of summer that fills my nostrils. The salty breeze and the dry Earth, to which I am subjected by my window right beside me, teleport me to Yucca Valley, California. And with every episode, I am drawn more and more to Peggy Newman. I don’t want to be like her, but I do want her to be my friend. That way, I could hang out with her and share everything with her with zero fear of being judged. The only way I can describe her is “cool”. Episode 5 shows Peggy taking Denny, who is pretending to be an art consultant, to Bob so that they can find out Donatella’s whereabouts. But oddly enough, it is someone else who...

Chicago – One of the peculiar secrets … since revealed … in the new Apple TV+ series “High Desert” is that the icon Bernadette Peters portrays two characters. One is the mother (Rosalyn) of main character Peggy, and the other is mysterious actor Ginger who somehow ended up in California desert country. New episodes drop every Wednesday.
“High Desert” features Peggy Newman (Patricia Arquette), an ex-heroin addict who lives in arid California and needs a life change. That is difficult, for besides her visits to a local methadone clinic she is just barely holding on as a performer in Pioneer Town, a rundown tourist attraction. The only thing she desperately wants to cling to is the house of her deceased mother (Bernadette Peters), but her sister Dianne (Christine Taylor) is intent on selling it. Peggy needs to raise some extra cash, so she comes up with a plan to become a private investigator,...

Four episodes later, I feel like there isn’t anything Peggy Newman cannot do. In a world like ours and a life like hers, no one else could have handled it better than her. She is always doing something, so she doesn’t have time to pause and reflect on her life. And what’s interesting is that she isn’t one to stop for a moment or two and think about her life. Peggy is a one-woman show, and there’s no stopping her. As strong as one can be, but at the same time, equally lovable. We understand why Denny is head over heels for her. Episode 4 of High Desert is another example of her strong character, as she does all that she can to prevent Bruce from declaring bankruptcy and also tries to get things back to normal with her sister Dianne. She knows that Bob’s wife,...

In the new Apple TV+ comedy noir series “High Desert,” Patricia Arquette and Matt Dillon play an off-and-on again couple so naturally that it seems like they must have starred together in some iconic 1990s indie movie. Surprisingly, they haven’t, but the off-kilter, sun-baked menace of films like Arquette starrers “True Romance” and “Lost Highway” permeates the new series, which is peopled with what Arquette calls “wild and weird creatures” in an environment that alternates between arid beauty and strip mall desolation.
In “High Desert,” Arquette’s methadone-dependent, perennial wild child Peggy Newman could not be more different than her buttoned-up “Severance” character Harmony Cobel, whether she’s piloting a dune buggy around the desert, swinging from a chandelier in a Pioneertown Old West show or getting mixed up with another half-baked scam. Peggy, who recently lost her mother, needs to raise money to stay in their house. She...

Chicago – How has actor/singer/Broadway icon Bernadette Peters ended up in the arid lands of California? She is featured in the new Apple TV+ series “High Desert.” It has an ensemble cast led by Patricia Arquette as Peggy Newman, a recovering human being in an odd and spiritual place. The series begins streaming on May 17th.
Newman is an ex-heroin addict who realizes her life needs to begin again. Peggy Newman is an interesting woman. Despite her addiction, which she has almost overcome, she has never let it grow on her and affect those around her. She is strong and knows how to take a stand. This aspect of her personality attracts us to her, although there is a lot more to her, like the fact that she is loving, funny, and intelligent. But what makes us one is our struggle. Her struggle to get a job, her struggle to keep the family together, her struggle to help a friend, and her struggle to cope with her mom’s absence are what connect us with her. She is one of us. But for now, she has to deal with a robbery in the middle of High Desert.

High Desert is the story of Peggy Newman of Yucca Valley, California. If you have seen BBC One’s Rain Dogs, it will be easier for you to understand this comedy-drama that revolves around a woman who is trying to get by in life. She is middle-aged and single; she has just lost her mom, and the world is very harsh. It is an exploration of life and its ups and downs, or to be more appropriate, its highs and lows. From an illegal past to a legal present, Peggy has been through a lot. High Desert celebrates the chaos we call life and proves that it is not meant to be enjoyed; it is meant to be lived. But it’s better not to do drugs.
