Growing up in Toledo, Ohio, Jake Staley was into music in a big way but
as a fan, not a player. Jake watched as some of his closest high school
friends, all talented musicians, started rock bands. They inspired him
to study drums, which he did with considerable zeal. His interest in
music piqued, Jake landed an internship for his senior project with
Richard Gibbs, a Malibu-based
composer. Jake's career path was set.
In 2003, he was accepted into the Berklee College of Music. He began
his stint at Berklee as a drum set performance major. But drums alone
did not satisfy his ambition, which included everything from scoring
films to producing records. So Jake switched to Berklee's contemporary
writing and production curriculum.
In October, 2007, Jake moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a
composer for film and television.
