Berlin-based producer/distributor Dcm has taken a sake in Wim Wenders’ production company Road Movies, creating an “equal, strong partnership” between the two firms, Wenders and Dcm said Friday.
Dcm, which has released several of Wenders’ films in Germany, including the Oscar-nominated Perfect Days, will buy into Road Movies in the first quarter of this year. Dcm partners Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny and Joel Brandeis described the move as a strategic expansion of the company’s film production business. Schmidheiny described the partnership as “a dream come true,” saying Dcm would handle the financial and day-to-day management of Road Movies to “to create the space for Wim to bring his seemingly inexhaustible creative power to the screen.”
“It has been on the agenda for years that we would work together with a strong partner,” said Wenders. “As Road Movies, we...

Dcm Film, the German distribution and production outfit with credits including Quartet and Kon-Tiki, has bought into Zurich-based cinema group Arthouse Commercio Movie (Acm).
The chain, set up in the 1970s, operates seven theaters in the Swiss city and also has eight restaurants, with a ninth soon to open. As of July 15, Dcm will take over programming, communications and marketing for the venues.
Arthouse Commercio owners Hans G. Syz and Nicolas von Graffenried said, “Dcm is not just a distributor of films, but a producer too – and the name stands for hand-picked tales of high quality. The enterprise benefits from both a wealth of interdisciplinary expertise and an international network. They also have a stake in the Metrograph in New York. The insights Acm will be given into other markets and business models in the competitive film-viewing environment can only be to Acm’s advantage. What’s more, Dcm demonstrate a real spirit of innovation,...

Latin America and China are two of the hottest markets to watch for growing film investment, experts told the fourth-annual Film Finance Forum at the Zurich Film Festival, organised by Winston Baker.
French producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam of Stone Angels said that he is “Looking a lot to China, the ‘zero’ we have at the moment could become substantial investment. In three years, China could be a bigger market than the Us.”
Charles Coker, the MD of Dasym Media who is working on Chinese co-productions with John Woo and Jackie Chan, noted: “China is a mystery to everybody here. It’s seen as the emerging behemoth in the entertainment industry…Media and entertainment spend rose from $350bn in 2011 to $547bn in 2012.” He added that 2002’s 1300 cinema screens were now closer to 13,000; Chinese box office in 2012 totaled $2.7bn and is on track to hit $3.5-$3.5bn this year.”
